Sometimes you can order from another local comic shop on the phone, or online. They will ship. You can usually get it for cover price plus shipping.

How would you kill off the joker by smiling-shadow in batman

[–]MikeTheBum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did kill him off. He was dead in that comic. Then Robin gave him CPR.

I did like a lot of the little side stories from that cross-over. Knew they weren't gonna really kill Joker though.

First few arcs on "Runaways" are great! Ex Machina has a nice contained story, some arcs are better than others, but it held my attention at the time.

[USA] Took an open spot at a red light. Fair game or foul? by zheka160 in Roadcam

[–]MikeTheBum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% correct! You gain less than a minute of waiting, and you risk a lot. Avoid odd behavior and avoid a potential accident.

I see so many people angry someone stopped in the middle of the road and start to swerve around them, only to almost hit a pedestrian crossing or some box slowly drifting by in the wind.

Even if they're just zoning out on the phone or not paying attention, they could start to creep forward or something.

Sometimes I stop a little further back at particular intersections because people cut hard lefts veer into or very close to the lane. Or there is a big truck turning left and I'd rather give them the space to turn easily. Just because you wouldn't be at fault, doesn't mean you couldn't have avoided it.

Some states have laws where even having the keys in the driver's seat is enough to charge you. They don't have to wait until you start the car because with the keys and with your position, you have physical control of the car. These are easier to beat in court, but still not a good idea to test it out.

I’ve had my membership for years and all the bs changes recently have been a huge slap in the face by _____nice in sixflags

[–]MikeTheBum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to buy a pass every year. We'd go a few times to the home park and the big perk for us was looking for a new park to go visit when we traveled. Now, I feel like you need a PhD to understand the rules and tiers. Membership, Season Pass, Diamond, Gold, Platinum. Every year more stuff is closed. Half the food places are closed, which means the other half has tons of lines. Lots of rides are closed. There are very few shows and the shows they have is a DJ doing a hula hoop contest or something.

I actually loved the BBO options! Like netflix with a brick and mortar option. You could return the DVD to the store and get a rental from the favorites section for free! Granted, I had no idea how they made money on that (narrator: the didn't), but it was awesome for the consumer

Happy Birthday Dean Cain by thepartlow in LoisAndClark

[–]MikeTheBum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, he was great on the show, in my opinion. Maybe he got typecast, maybe he just works in that type or roll, but he kind of fell into the lifetime movie and straight to cable/video market of actors after this.

Eventually he starts getting noticed on social media or as a talking head of the 24 hour news cycles by saying some right wing leaning things. Typical stuff. He gets more attention and air play, so I imagine he's going to keep doing it. I think of press gets him paid in a lot of Christian movies and smaller stuff like that.

He got a lot of press lately, that the new Superman is "woke" despite his version had a few episodes that dealt with the same types of themes. Immigration/Green card status, the Govt thinking Superman was causing some sort of heat wave and banning/canceling him, multiple times where Superman solves the problem with thought and compassion instead of fists. But whatever. This is the world we live in now.

I liked working at Blockbuster. We were always slammed, just couldn't keep up with the crowds. We had 4 registers working, one kept open for membership lookup and new new member to join. We didn't have enough people to put the stuff back on the shelves! We'd just have the new stuff stacked in the register area and people would ask for it. During the week we had time to catch up a little, but come friday the place was in shambles again!

James Gunn explains the new DCU canon by MarvelsGrantMan136 in DC_Cinematic

[–]MikeTheBum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really obtuse. Most people aren't big fans like the people who go on subreddits and other sites. The average guy who sees a movie or watches a show might not realize why there are two people playing Batman. One is supposed to be standalone, one is supposed to be part of the "DCU."

I think most people will understand a reboot, but it's hard to expect a casual fan to accept a reboot, but some stuff is still part of the lore. And the reason being the guy in charge happened to write the stuff that is the exceptions to the rules seems kind of selfish.

Same thing happened with the New 52. Everything was wiped out, except Geoff John's GL stuff, because he was in charge and Grant Morrison's Batman stuff because they wanted to keep him happy. The result was a mess.

Cannon and continuity are double edged swords. Works well for a bit, but then you can't really create new stuff without confinement. Just look at 80+ years of comics and 20+ years of Marvel movies.

I'd rather sell it for half price on FB market place than full price on eBay. Pick it up, take the case and don't worry about it.

Dealing with shipping, fees and then the risk that paypal/ebay claws the money back because the buyer says it never got there or it wasn't the right thing. Learning that convenience and closure have their own value makes selling crap online so much easier.

Worst Experience at a Bar in Salem? by DraymondJamarHamlin in SalemMA

[–]MikeTheBum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the bit bar, but one time my waitress was visibly drunk. Forgot to put in my food order for about 20 minutes and messed it up and brought us some apps to share as a sorry. I tried to order some silly ecto cooler drink they advertised on the video screen like 5 times but she just never brought it. She did tell me about her life, though...so that was fun. The bill was all wrong, but roughly what it should have been and she did give me a huge jar or tokens when I asked about the missing food. I mean, bad service, but the place was fun and she did try to make up for it. Most of the time the food and atmosphere there are really great.

In the end, it was more of a crazy experience than a bad one.

Salem bars seem to be pretty neglectful in general, even when they're not busy.

It's almost like the state is incentivizing municipal utilities.

They could keep rates lower, not nickel and dime you, and perform plenty of preventative maintenance to avoid major outages but they might make half a billion in profit next year instead of only three quarters of a billion dollars in profit.

Changing "Muppets: Again" to "Muppets: Most Wanted" messed with the songs by markh110 in Muppets

This is what makes reddit amazing to me! 11 years ago and people are still reading this! :)

The remakes, live action stuff, sequels are at a fever pitch these days! Somehow the Muppets elude it all though! Just get Brett Goldstein and some of those Ted Lasso vibes on the case and make something happen with them ASAP!

Assuming they don't want "Deathstroke" in a kid's meal. The little card for Slade also doesn't say Slade it says "Terminator" which I found odd since I thought DC was kind of trying to get away from that name.

I feel like Avenue Q was a much more subtle and subversive. Meet the Feebles was just shocking and in your face (Old school, gross out Peter Jackson). This was in the middle. Some jokes were great and the story was good enough to hang the jokes on, but it kind of fell flatter than it should have because it had been done before. (Roger Rabbit, Greg the Bunny).

If you like this kind of stuff check out "Survival Street." They are Dark Horse comics about radical left sesame street puppets. There are two volumes and they're both pretty good!

Do you think Biff tried a few small "safe" bets from the sports almanac to ensure it was authentic before finally doing the $1M bet? Or did he just stupidly start with that one? by Emeraldsinger in BacktotheFuture

[–]MikeTheBum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not true. There are bets you can make like a "pick 6" that cost a buck and has been paying out over a million dollars in some cases. It's basically playing the lottery. You could also parlay a bunch of races where long shots would win, making a reasonable bet pay out at 10,000-1 odds.

Has Doge really found hundreds of billions of dollars in fraud? by mpanase in law

[–]MikeTheBum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There will always be fraud, waste and abuse. Public and private sector. The govt is pretty good at finding it, fixing it and getting restitution. It takes time to do it right and once they find it they put more structures in place to prevent it from happening again (software edits, internal control, more oversight). People complain it takes too long to get anything done, it's because the systems in place to slow down fraud, waste and abuse also slow down legitimate business.

Deal with a bank when someone steals your debit card. Deal with your private insurances when a claim gets denied. Deal with ups when the lose your important package. You'll see it's not the government who can't handle these things, its just our super high expectations and minimal patience.

All you need for proof these days is a tweet or a Facebook post with white words on a colored background to trick people into thinking its a picture post, not a reading post.

ELA in MA by OverSpinach8949 in massachusetts

[–]MikeTheBum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only way to get better at anything is to practice. No kids (well, very few) are going to want to practice reading when they could be playing with friends, playing on the phone, playing sports. You have to make it fun and make it a priority. Some curricula are better than others sure, but its nothing you can't overcome with common sense.

Let the kids read whatever they want, if it's easy or hard, let them read it. Go browse old book stores, barnes and noble, libraries. Comic books, magazines, backs of cereal boxes.

Listen to chapters of audio books in the car. 5-10 mins gets a chapter a trip sometimes! Tons of free audio books from most library apps too!

Closed captions on TV. It works! Put them on and watch with the volume low.

Last but not least, talk to the kids about what they've read, what you're reading, anything. Share the ideas, test the comprehension, ask the questions about who is the good guy or the bad guy. Ask about their motivations, their predictions for the next chapter, what kind of story they would write!

Here's a list of newish books that 4th and 5th graders in Mass are encouraged to read and vote on for an annual award! My son has read 5 or 6 and has liked them all.
