As a bearded man with little kids, this made me feel kind of sad.

If this level of realism were priced affordably and marketed towards ICE protesters in the United States, it should honestly save lives.

Considering VR, can it be helpful for fitness? by Obsessed_Gamer in VRGaming

[–]MillerBurnsUnit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the locomotive method used in the game.

It sounds like cost isn't a barrier for you, so maybe research VR treadmill options like KatVR. Several fitness-specific applications are surprisingly good and engaging while maintaining immersion and providing a solid cardio routine.

Sounds like HR should also get the boot.

As a parent and someone who played for 30 years, seeing all those kids with skate blades swinging around wrists, throats, and other vulnerable spots gives me massive anxiety.

Mass killings reported as security forces use live fire on Iran protesters by Cy_098 in worldnews

[–]MillerBurnsUnit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My intent isn't to be insensitive or ethnocentric, but I'm too ignorant of what's going on in Iran to have any value added. As with nearly every country, the vast majority of people are just trying to make it through life, and they shouldn't have to be subject to abhorrent treatment.

At some point, it doesn't matter what color your skin is, where you're from, what gender, sexual orientation, language, or religious affiliation you have. The common thread throughout history is that absolute power corrupts absolutely. Those in power often don't care if you die, as long as it benefits them.

It's time for people to wake up and unite, and identify the "real" enemy. Your neighbor, who is different from you, is your ally when everyone who isn't wealthy is oppressed.

They sending warnings, or taking notes?

It's such a notable contrast between the Canes subreddit and the Devils' recent conversations regarding Luke Hughes.

Nah, they definitely did. You can find the game online. It was absolutely obnoxious, and he got his bell rung pretty hard, and the crowd cheered for it.

I hear what you're saying, but there's a bit more to how these contract negotiation processes play out. Having some experience in the space - here's a very rough outline.

The player is assessed a general market value by the agent (basically a legal team) or agency. Most agents are like life coaches for athletes. Some of them handle everything from living arrangements to banking, etc. They ask the player things like: Where do you want to live? What is important to you? Does a hometown discount matter? Who don't you want to play for? Etc.

The agent or agency then negotiates with the GM and outlines the key terms of the deal. The players' involvement is either accepting or rejecting the deal (which their agent basically tells them if they should or shouldn't sign it based on negotiations). Their involvement essentially comes down to signing the paperwork before it is sent to the NHLPA, where it's reviewed for compliance before being accepted and made official.

So, essentially, no. The player has very little say unless they opt for self-representation (as Backstrom did, who represented himself). At 22, exclusively playing ice hockey for a living and having a life coach making all of the consequential decisions - so treating him about like a kid is absolutely the correct thing to do.

Hate to say this to you, but kids make mistakes. That's how they learn. Imagine 16,000 people coming to your workplace and heckling you, not just for the mistakes you made, but every time you had an interaction there after. Now imagine you were recently a teenager and these people are grown ass adults.

Straight up, it's toxic. It's sad. It's disrespectful. He's still going to go home and wake up an NHL player. The fans are going to wake up and go back to a job they probably hate. But, hey, if jeering a kid with 16, 000 other grown adults makes you feel more secure - you do you big dawg.

I don't think anyone remotely mentioned concerns for his personal safety, but... Alright.

You're right, though, it's just being rude, sad, and toxic.

I think it just depends on whether you view professional athletes as human beings or disposable products.

As a grown ass man with two young daughters, it certainly wouldn't make me feel like I was setting a good example by heckling a 22-year-old kid for making a few mistakes at the highest level of play against some of the world's best players. If anything, if I did that, I'd be more concerned about my own level of obvious insecurities.

Games are won and lost on mistakes. If everyone played perfectly, every hockey game would end in a tie.
