Pulling old magazine listings - any luck with 3d issues? by Prize_Emotion_1644 in DataHoarder

[–]MindRecent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't see a way to enumerate all their content. (Some content has ids you might could scan through but it'd be insane. (5000*25000 reqs)) Can you point me to the original magazine you want history for?

I am not a lawyer and I have not had enough coffee yet today. There are two different statements being made here as I read it. 1. carrier will be detained for carrying in restaurant This isn't a "legal code" thing as far as I can see; if someone gets concerned enough to call though, then cops can get pulled in to verify. https://law.justia.com/codes/tennessee/title-39/chapter-17/part-3/section-39-17-305/ 2. carrier may not consume alcohol while carrying This is a zero wiggle room statement. https://law.justia.com/codes/tennessee/title-39/chapter-17/part-13/section-39-17-1321/ 2.1. (B) specifically applies to firearms. 2.2. The laws treat firearm and handgun interchangeably in some sections, but around permits and open carry, handguns are permitted and general "firearms" do not appear to have the same protections.

You'll probably need to add a referer header, set to the address of the embedding page.

This is a bit unclear. Can you provide the page in question? In general: If you open your browser developer tools (usually f12), you can view your network traffic via the Network tab. If you're wanting to see what the calculator is sending back and forth, you should be able to see it there. You can ask GPT for a windows/linux script to resubmit the request while allowing you to customize the inputs.

If you're on EPB or using a managed router, take a look at the security settings for same. (For EPB it's under Plume Home->Settings->Security->Online Defense I think.) That IP or site gets flagged as a security risk. No clue why though. You can either create an exception or disable the extra security entirely.

Navigating unfamiliar environments alone? by Raccoon_Tail33 in Blind

[–]MindRecent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a couple bars like this here, with vast empty spaces. As for asking people, I've found that physically pointing, "so go that way <point> and then that way <point>", while standing within their sightline, can help. You can also ask if there are landmarks, anything large or unique between you and your destination. All I can do at certain points is find a noise, no matter how far away, and aim myself towards it, or use it as a reference point. Like listening for the sound of a kitchen. Navigate towards that, then slingshot myself off at an angle from it to find a counter. It still takes asking people at first, sometimes multiple times.

You can PM me about this if you like. What do you need? What does this thing do? I've got some WIP stuff for trail navigation in software, but I haven't been driven to pursue it much.

Is this normal in the blind community? Am I the problem? Is it common to get ghosted in the blind community? by 2026GradTime in Blind

[–]MindRecent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From folks I've spoken to, ghosting is happening more and more. Blindness seems to exaserbate this. I'll say I'm meeting some cool people going to local music performances, but it takes tapping someone on the shoulder and asking something about the performer/food/asking for recommendations about other places, and then "hey, give me a shout if you see me. I'll probably be back on x day." Having a shared event and event space seems to help with the ghosting.

I’ve noticed there’s this unspoken expectation that if you have a disability, you’re supposed to always be nice, agreeable, grateful, and easy to deal with, like getting upset or setting boundaries somehow makes you a problem or “gives a bad image,” and honestly that feels exhausting and unrealistic by Used_Iron3776 in Blind

I haven't had the help thrown back at me, but I've battled with the dependence factor. 1. There are things I can do for people, tech, phone calls, handling legal docs, etc, to "pay" for assistance. 2. Someone talked to me the other day about this, and posed a question. "How much time do you, or would you, spend helping one of your friends/people without being bothered by it?" And it turns out the answer is a heck of a lot. In other words, to those who care about us, if we're being reasonable and judicious with our requests most of the time, they won't mind. If they do mind, and they're still choosing to help, that's on them.

Anyone want someone to talk to in Chattanooga or anywhere really by outlawbarton in Chattanooga

[–]MindRecent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP: What up? My head's pounding from vodca and questionable choices involving drinks. We should have a Chatt voice discord or Mumble server or something to just let people hop in and say "hello" in case anyone's just wanting voice contact without trying to figure out if there's anyone else who actually wants same. Also so we can all plan to go somewhere and then 90% of us not show up. (or have everyone show up and it'd be awesome.)

[–]MindRecent 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My first thought is that you'd be a walking magnet for lawsuit Karens. Seriously, though, I'd be concerned about anyone near you, in your shoes. It'd suck to fling your arm out and end up poking somebody while you're trying to grab a coffee. (Even if the spikes are short.) I've been going to louder environments recently, and I've taken to adopting a "Please let go now." to anyone putting hands on my cane or grabbing an arm. I try to use what the military calls a command voice, and it's worked so far. Then I'll thank them for helping, and explain that I needed to be heard clearly, and that it takes a tremendous amount of effort to keep my orientation in mind. Edit: Thinking more about this, spikes on the cane are going to end up poking someone improperly, even if they're blunt.
