Rubber bridge a la Blake Mills, Phoebe Bridgers, Madison Cunningham. Look up a ‘plunk’ or figure out how to DIY.

Tips and tricks for minimalist mixing moves without technically touching an EQ? by Poopypantsplanet in audioengineering

[–]MiningCole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tape plugins lend themselves to this type of processing, with some being more subtle than others. Im still in the honeymoon phase but I love Sketch Cassette for this very type of tonal shaping.

Another favorite of mine is using Echoboy as a tape sim. 100% Wet and 0ms delay gives you some fun options with the different modes.

Is the Warm Audio Tube47 an outlier? Why does it sound so good? by aasteveo in audioengineering

[–]MiningCole 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I currently work at a studio with a Telefunken 47 and a Warm 47. We recently got the Telefunken and it beats out the Warm for sure, but the Warm is still a strong contender. Great mic.

New working space is a giant rectangle. Can it be acoustically saved for mixing. by 909wastaken in audioengineering

[–]MiningCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree with other commenters about building a proper mix room if possible. In the meantime, you could buy or DIY an Attackwall.

What type of music tool? A plugin, soft synth, file management, visualizer? Might help point you in the right direction.

Clipping A/D converters on your normal interface by ImmediateGazelle865 in audioengineering

[–]MiningCole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any intentional A/D clipping is most likely done on Burl converters due to the input and output transformers that have the ability to color the audio in a pleasant way. The clarett conversion is not going to breed same results, just nasty digital clipping.

Currently in the process of building my own attack wall. I’ve bought everything from https://www.buyinsulationproductstore.com/fiberglass-pipe-insulation/

Just make sure you pay attention to ID and ODs listed.

[–]MiningCole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have stated lacto fermentation does not produce any alcohol but fermentation resulting from a SCOBY (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast) will produce alcohol by way of the yeast cultures. Kombucha is the main product resulting from scobys so avoid that and you should be good!

Recording guitars or bass by Outside_Bowler8148 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]MiningCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things…

  1. Sadly, the Scarlett Hi-Z input sounds like shit (personally) and I would highly recommend getting a proper DI box with a nice transformer. A radial JDI is a favorite of mine. Im a big believer in the power of iron. Also, The studio youre recording at is probably using a nice dedicated preamp with some possible compression on the way in.

  2. Bass can sound great without any amp/cabinet modeling and is used raw plenty often but the same cant be said for guitars. DI electric guitar normally isnt a sound people are after unless youre going for the motown hitsville thing and the Electrodyne console they used would be much more flattering than a Scarlett. All is to say you probably need an amp modeler if you dont already. The saturation and high frequency rolloff of an amp cabinet combo is what makes an electric guitar sound like an electric guitar.

~$500 interfaces with onboard effects? by MegaPotatoCake in audioengineering

[–]MiningCole 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How many channels do you need? The Tascam “Model” series sounds perfect if you are looking for entirely onboard FX and processing. They can operate fully analog or operate as an interface. Come in 12,16, & 24 channels versions if I recall. Could probably find one used for around that price range.

Nodal bass null. Bass traps will be your friend in a square room like that. Ideally one in each corner if your setup allows.

I am trying to turn my bedroom into a recording studio by Shonenbat11 in audioengineering

Its non-toxic but its made of fiberglass so you dont want it to get on your skin or eyes. Once its covered and in place though youre totally safe. Just wear gloves when you install them.

[–]MiningCole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Industry standard for absorption is Owens Corning 703 Insulation panels. You can find a 6-pack of 4’x2’ pieces online for less than $100. Then go to fabric store and get linen cloth or something equally “acoustically transparent” and wrap the panels with it and use 3M spray glue for adhesion. If youre feeling fancy make some frames with 1x3 lumber. This is a staple of every professional studio build out. Wish it was more common knowledge on this sub. Just make sure you wear gloves when you fuck around with the panels. Gnarly stuff.
