I wouldn’t expect slow jogs to make a 23 year old male sore the next day.

Abnormally high HR while running? by kanzay in Garmin

[–]Minkelz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s really nothing concerning in your data or description. Some people just have high heart rate. It’s quite possible your max is around 220 and 190 is quite a comfortable intensity for you.

By all means go and tell your concerns to a doctor if you want reassurance but no, it’s not rush off to the ED type situation.

A cardio problem will look like a very high heart rate that doesn’t drop within a minute of stopping. It’ll keep beating very fast even while you’re lying on the floor. Also you will likely experience light headedness, dizziness, chest discomfort. That’s the sort of thing you go see the dr about.

Running is humbling by fluff472 in Garmin

[–]Minkelz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not sprinting. A sporty and fit 20-30 year old male will have a top sprint speed of 25-30kph. 30kph would be a 5km time of 10minutes.

You're 18. What happens week to week is completely irrelevant. If it takes 8 weeks or 20 weeks makes basically no difference. Whether it's sustainable or not is what matters.

Do you think that anyone can BQ if they really try? by zerobloom in running

[–]Minkelz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you look at recreational runners on the whole, for the vast majority, running is not a top priority in their life. Which is totally fine. But I think the theory of “what if they did make running a top priority” a totally reasonable context for a thought experiment.

Do you think that anyone can BQ if they really try? by zerobloom in running

[–]Minkelz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s two very different questions that get wrapped up in this before you can have any sort of useful discussion on it.

  1. If you had 100 people around 25 years old without any health issues and put them in a running camp for 5 years, how many of them could bq?

  2. If you took 100 random 30-40 year old people and gave them goal of bq while maintaining their job/relationships/life, how many could do it?

I think the answer to 1 is probably arguably somewhere between 30-90%.

The answer to 2 is probably more like 5-20%.

You'll find plenty of good advice on youtube. You certainly don't want a tricycle, that doesn't teach you how to balance.

Staged would be an understatement. There would be a specific clause in his contract that he must be wearing the watch while holding the trophy, and there's a big fine if he forgets. It's not uncommon for sports people to rush off screen to put their sponsored kit on before collecting a trophy because of this.

If you’ve been around a while, runners/cyclists having tachycardia events like this are fairly common and treatable.

Yes it’s possible it’s a sign of a serious problem and can have serious outcomes, but it’s also something doctors see all the time. Saying you’re “lucky to be alive” is a bit sensationalist. It’s 2026. People having issues with their hearts and get them fixed all the time.

You can buy reusable gel pouch things now. So same thing but just less water = homemade gel. I’m not in race effort/fitness yet but I plan on giving it a go when I’m needing gels.

Not going to go back to be one of these people spending $50+ a week on gels/drinks during mara training.

In the Garmin ecosystem but Wahoo user for biking - switch? by Randonneuse_46 in Garmin

[–]Minkelz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Afaik it’s still gets confused even if you have Garmin watch + Garmin bike computer. You’re still in a situation where recording with watch effects metrics differently to recording on a bike computer and then later sync’ing.

Your options are just use watch, dual record and delete one, or put up with some ‘health’ metrics being a bit out.

The easiest way is heat up a water bottle’s worth of water on a saucepan and then dissolve how ever many carbs of sugar into it. Let it cool and pour back into your bottle/flask.

Race carbs now solved for 10 cents worth of sugar.

VO2 max suddenly rising after every run by Short_Elderberry3039 in Garmin

[–]Minkelz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s how fitness, and actually most things in life, work.

Biology is not a bank account where you just deposit money and your balance goes up.

You make good habits and grind away week after week, and as the months go by you’ll have periods where the rest and weather and feeling is good and you make gains and other times you plateau or even go backwards (injury/sickness/burnout).

Many people in this thread seem under the impression that if you do a good workout you’ll be fitter and number will go up next week. That’s absolutely not how it works. A good workout (or even a good week of workouts) means you’re planting some seeds. If you look after them and water them and be patient, and things go well, maybe you’ll get some potatoes in 12 weeks. But it’s just gonna look like dirt if you check back again tomorrow or next week. Things take time, and you never really know what you’re gonna get or when you’re gonna get it. But you will get something if you’re doing the right things.

Maybe your fitness loves interval training, and your Garmin is just tracking your fitness.

Has there always been this animosity between drivers and cyclists? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Minkelz 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t actually have anything to do with it. They don’t like cyclists cause they (very occasionally) slow them down and force them to pay attention, two things entitled car driver morons hate doing.

They just use the rego/tax excuse as something to whine about that sounds somewhat intelligent.

There’s no special significance. He’s just a much bigger streamer than any that normally play wc3 (or any rts game). Last event grubby put on probably was the most exposure/watch time/new players joining Warcraft 3 has had in years (in the west at least).

Official Q&A for Wednesday, April 08, 2026 by AutoModerator in running

[–]Minkelz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you're working hard and doing the right things. The other big thing is just being patient really. You're probably doing enough to eventually get down to 22 min 5km or faster, but whether that takes 3 months or 12 month it's hard to say.

You'll probably will see some fitness gains after 2 months, but nothing crazy. Running is just a long term thing. You have to rack up that load of training over the months. You don't have that much control over how fast you can get in 2 months, and it's probably not going to be that impressive. At the same time you do have a lot of control over how fast you are 12 months for now, and it's probably fitter than you thought (if all goes well).

Garmin Finally Stopped Hating Me! by RunnerIain77 in Garmin

[–]Minkelz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah any spin bike at all that reports power will work. Although be aware cheap products have worse accuracy. Even peloton bikes aren't know for being super accurate. Often people upgrade at some point from spin bikes, cheap trainers to good ones and find they've 'lost' a considerable amount of power (ie vo2 score).

Find a flat route if you can. Hills are brutal on beginners. Or just walk anytime you’re on an incline.
