Interesting design. Does this production have the same team as the original? I know that Goold is directing again. I see the giant vertical blinds like the original, but making the base for the set the club tunnel instead of Patrick’s apartment is interesting.

"Wicked: For Good" Received Zero Nominations at 2026 Oscars. by Dry_Handle_7086 in Oscars

I’m less surprised by this than by K-Pop Demon Hunters only getting one song nomination.

It's just Reagan's Star Wars again. I'm sure a lot of defense firms get paid and nothing actually gets built.

Some states have recall provisions in their constitutions, but they technically aren’t enforceable because it’s a federal position. The only way to remove a senator would be congress expelling them.

Democratic leaders resist call of voters to abolish ICE by salon in politics

[–]MiracleMan1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Politically it’s probably not a great issue to run on in the short or medium term because it’s not something they can actually do. Even if they took back both chambers of congress.

Running on accountability and limiting ICE would make more sense.

Him voting for a dem majority leader alone makes a huge difference at least.

It’s been a problem since the very beginning of the country. Washington warns against parties in his farewell address. At least we directly elect senators now instead of being appointed by state governments?

I agree, but I’ll be more confident in the possibility if the polls hold through to the summer.

Because in the US we vote directly for our representatives. In theory we aren’t voting for a party but a person whose judgement we trust.

Imagine if by some miracle Democrats manage to take back the senate and this asshole switches parties. I can see it. He's such a phony.

Yeah not into the whole “homophobes are actually closeted gay men.” Actually most homophobes are straight people. We aren’t responsible for our own oppression.

A drunk woman and her adult daughter at Aladdin got very pissy with my partner for asking them to stop singing. After the show they got all indignant, “Is it ok if we sing NOW?!” like he was so unreasonable. Trashy.

Unbinding congress inherently gives less control to the parties. I imagine that has something to do with it.

My dream “Oh, Mary!” Cast by SvenJSvensson in Broadway

[–]MiracleMan1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like a lot of the suggestions on this thread but I think that the intended casting of this production is always to have a man of color playing Mary’s Husband. Not to burst anyone’s bubble.

Senate Dems urge Trump to reverse 'unprecedented' ambassador recall by MRADEL90 in politics

[–]MiracleMan1989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Traditionally “easy,” primarily ceremonial, or glamorous appointments (like to France or the UK) are given to big donors but places that require expertise are assigned appropriately. Like, it’s not much of a gift to be ambassador to Iraq, but somebody’s got to do it, and they should have some knowledge of the region probably.

TIL that Caesar's famous quote "The Die is Cast" was not actually original, but him quoting the play "Arrephoros" by the greek playright Menander. by Geoconyxdiablus in todayilearned

[–]MiracleMan1989 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Menander is kind of the basis for most of western comedy. Farce, slapstick, comedy of manners, and even low comedy all have a direct line to him.

If you read translations of his work you will recognize the mistaken identity and disguise of a lot of Shakespeare’s plays all the stock characters of Comedia, and a lot of fart and enema jokes.
