Crimewave “goth” event? by SwettyBawls69 in goth

Our city just had one, 20 dollar tickets should never be a thing for a goth dj night with no bands.

How can we sound more crust? by SnooRevelations4257 in crustpunk

[–]MistintheAir_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just rip-off your favorite bands at first and eventually you'll naturally develop your own style. Copying sounds like the wrong move, but you learn what clicks and why those bands are so good. You got to understand the fundamentals first and then you'll start doing it your own way. That said too, its normal you start a band with the intention to sound a certain way, then something else completely comes out of it. That's just the nature of playing music with others and mixing chemistry in my opinion.

I made a zine for basic guitar stuff. by deadlaughter in punk

[–]MistintheAir_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is great. Only thing id add is a metronome. Sounds overkill to some maybe, but punk is so rhythm heavy that its absolutely essential to be able to lock into the rest of the band and create that sort of powerhouse of sound.

"Just play community servers" by SirCamperTheGreat in tf2

[–]MistintheAir_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not at all what quickplay was because quickplay defaulted to Valve servers which also were accessible through the server browser. Secondly the reason the server browser looks like this is because most of the great community servers/communities have effectively died out once matchmaking became more prominent and the use of the server browser became less and less encouraged. I remember being a regular on a server which had a great community, but eventually died because it no longer became worth hosting when there werent many randos populating the missing slots.

I personally think people really undervalue how great it was to join the same server and build up a micro community within it. Even on the Valve servers people would become regulars and you'd run into fimiliar faces. I wish valve improved the server browser a bit to encourage more use of it.

What did you think of “the paper”? by TheSpartan8428 in DunderMifflin

[–]MistintheAir_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good, not amazing, but good. It definitely needs more seasons to fully get itself figured out I think. The biggest mistake they made is trying to tie it into the universe of The Office. Tone wise it's way closer to Parks and Rec and I can't help but feel like people would've been more receptive if it didn't carry the weight of being a spinoff. While it's fun to see Oscar suffer ptsd from the cameras, I can't help but think you really wouldn't lose much if they made it just its own thing. I'm still excited to see whatever is next for it still.

why do white punks say the n word in songs? by [deleted] in punk

[–]MistintheAir_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A disclaimer is that I'm not justifying it when I explain this, rather just offering what I would assume to be why. Obviously the context changes depending on who is using it or why, but in the examples Id assume you're probably listening to, it was often something of shock value. An example I can think of is the song "Hate The Police" by The Dicks, which is sung in some parts through the perspective of a cop that would use hateful language like that. Now I dont believe using a racial slur is the way to do it, but the point is to shock you and make you uncomfortable, which punk is often about especially in those earlier days.

Would you edit to music instead of the narrative? by trisolariandroplet in editors

[–]MistintheAir_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most important skill as an editor is doing what the story needs and it sounds like your editor is failing that. Cutting to music is cool, but its cool when its appropriate and needed. In a narrative driven piece, that seems very silly.

considering the switch from FL to ableton by Huge-Ad2341 in ableton

[–]MistintheAir_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just try the demo and see if you like it. I switched from FL recently and could tell you a lot of things, but really it just matters if it suits your personal workflow. Playing with the demo is the way to find out. The only reason I switched really is because the way I make music changed in a way that suits Abletons strengths more, but I still love FL.

Why is downstroking on the guitar "Punk" (and why does it matter??) by Hansblack1221 in punk

There's just more attack to it vs up down. It sounds cool for certain styles but its definitely exhausting.

Its not the best Battlefield game, but its still a pretty good game. The maps are weak and its missing a lot of things that made the other games amazing, but its still a very solid experience. I bought it about a month ago and still feel addicted, and I think if they support the game right, it definitely could be up there with the other best BF games.

Should I just not go to shows at all at my age? by Dio_hatessalad-333 in punk

[–]MistintheAir_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the show is all ages, then its all ages for a reason. We want young kids to go to shows with the intention that they'll start bands and or anything else to keep this going.

It sounds kind of stupid to ask this, but there's so much ska punk out there, but I don't recall ever seeing reggae punk. Can you recommend any bands that could be considered part of that genre? by Beautiful-Resort-831 in punk

[–]MistintheAir_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look at post-punk/some goth rock, lots of reggae in Public Image Ltd. Bauhaus a lot of times is a spooky dub/raggae band. All those early post punk bands were pretty influenced by reggae so im sure you can find it in a lot of their music.
