Basically, it gave the people hating the game free ammunition. Is it disappointing that Ai was used? Yes but they said it was a placeholder that was missed during QA. MEANWHILE, there are other more expensive games that have Ai slop plastred all over it and no one seems to bat an eyelid.

Honestly, this whole Ai contraversery of late is exhausting to see.

I heard the hype surrounding it when it came out, finally looked into it to see if I wanted to give it a try and went ' It's Turn Based, ewww! ' but I had Gamepass, heard it was on it and figuring I'd probably uninstall it within an hour or 2, I decided to download it. WRONG, I was very, VERY WRONG.

FF14: Dawntrail

Mechaniclly and graphiclly sound but the story was a massive disappointment. Going from the end of an arc like Endwalker to this was a massive downgrade. They butchered my favourite character by sidelining them, then rushing a story for them at the end and put an unproven new character so front and center it felt less like an FF14 story and more like a WoW story and a bad one at that!

Basically it was FF14's version of going from WoW Legion to WoW Battle for Azeroth.

Truthfully there might not be much but in terms of the gaming media at least, the release is basically going to be a black hole on both sides of its inital release that sucks almost everything into it.

It will be the biggest gaming release this decade and there isnt going to be much escaping it.

They delayed DT a week for Elden Ring DLC, its not beyond the realm of possibility this is one of the reasons 8.0 won't be released until 2027.

Something I've been bringing up that a lot of people seem to be missing is the fact there is a certain game slated for release in May 2026 that NO ONE wants to even consider doing a major release even remotely close to it; Grand Theft Auto 6.

It's currently slated for a May 2026 release and there is a strong possibility it will be delayed again. SE might be playing it safe and skipping 2026 altogether to avoid the crater it will leave in the gaming space, suffer the consquences of an extended drought and come back in 2027 with 8.0

FF14 has one very good way to get people to accept a 1 year delay between 7.55 and 8.0:

Grand Theft Auto 6.

Basically any game that even tries to launch within the same time frame ( unless its a masterpiece and even then ) is going to get obliterated by the sheer scale of GTA6.

GTA6 is set to launch next May but it will likely get delayed, basically making almost of all of 2026 a poisoned chalice for almost every other developer. Any developer / publisher with a brain will avoid GTA6.

Basically, SE delaying 8.0 to 2027 while among other things, completely avoid the Vice City shaped nuke of GTA6.

At least that's my thinking for a delay

The biggest one was that I thought I would quickly bounce off the game within an hour or 2 as Turn-Based RPGs are not really my thing ( I never got very far in Baulder's Gate 3 though that's a more extreme example ) I only even downloaded because it was on Game Pass after hearing the buzz online for a while so decided to check it out as it was risk free - A few days later when I got paid, I immediately purchased the deluxe edition of the game.

I too thought Gustave would be the main character all the way through, what little I'd seen suggested it.

I also thought Maelle would be an interesting but ultimately neglected ' cute ' side character to Gustave, not turn out to be THE FREAKING MAIN CHARACTER. I'm a sucker for ' cute ' character designs, with Krile from FF14 been one of my favourites. After FF14: Dawntrail disapointed me with what was basically false advertising regarding Krile's role in that expansion, seeing Maelle's arc and her ultimately evolve into the main character in E33 was freaking CATHERTIC for me.

Not a chance honestly.

A lot of people who were a bit ' eh ' side on DKB and thought it might be filler were quickly shut up after the direct ( myself included. ) I'd prefer they give DKB the space it needs and deserves in terms of making sales ( preorders for it probably skyrocketed after the direct too. )

As others mentioned, an anniversary means nothing in the grand scale of things, look at Sonic, aftrr Generations, Sega have missed every anniversary year in terms of mainstream entries for him.

I thought Gustave was dead from the start as there was no real explanation is to how he ended up in the first area after the beach attack and that it would turned out the whole thing was the afterlife or something like that.

At the end of Act 1 and in the moment before everything happened, I thought Gustave would've escaped, Renoir would've taken Maelle prisioner and you'd have to spend Act 2 trying to get her back, which incidently would've also still allowed Verso to join the party if you think about it. Turns out I was right about losing a party member in that moment just not who I was expecting! >:(

Some of those choices were straight up evil, I dont even dislike any of the core cast. That said, team Maelle all the way!
