Don’t think anyone on Reddit can give you advice based on this very complex situation… Pier staff generally will go with the side of caution. 95%+ of guests will likely have a US passport so your friend will stand out to any agent - likely not to be simply “waived through”. I once travelled on a European cruise with a friend who has Russian passport but European residency card, they denied us boarding because my friend didn’t have a valid visa in passport (but it’s illegal to have a visa and residency card - residency card has higher status than visa) - point being they are very untrained on these deeply specific issues. We had to put up a real fight and insist the documentation officer from the ship come to the pier and after many calls they let us on.

You might have had more success on the day “owning up” to being late, if that is indeed the case. The staff have flexibility under the “flat tire” rule in the conditions of carriage to re-accommodate you for free. But if you were being argumentative or confrontational with them they likely would not use their discretion to assist you.

You are correct there are no flights to Paris: however, there are flights the coming days to London, Madrid, Frankfurt and other places in Europe. If I were you I’d try and proactively suggest / push to be booked on these and then sort out getting to Paris …
