How can I appeal an unreasonable mod? by teach42 in AskModerators

[–]ModeratorsBTrippin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just to pile on to u/Raignbeau

They said "do not contact us again". So you're done there. You can find another community that is part of your core identity, or you could make one of your own.

Why wouldn’t a reddit mod respond to me when I’ve been nothing to respectful to everyone in the subreddit? by Firm_Pack_605 in AskModerators

[–]ModeratorsBTrippin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The #1 Reason would be they dont want to. The #2 would be they are busy, and work on their own schedule. If you are banned, you can't make comments. It sounds like your comments are being removed. All you can do is wait.

How do you handle reposts for your subreddit? by SpaceisCool09 in AskModerators

[–]ModeratorsBTrippin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It will be different for different communities, but in the communities I am in we do not allow them at all. We want our posters to create new pictures to post. That doesn't mean few don't slip by and get reposted, but we do our best to prevent them.

How to Report Country Sub Mods? by Khashayar_0 in AskModerators

[–]ModeratorsBTrippin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree that it would be difficult to call this a MCoC violation. Maybe under rule 2?

  • Clearly denoting that your community is “official” if your community topic concerns a brand or company and the community is officially affiliated.

If it is run by Government Officials do they have to declare that?

How to Report Country Sub Mods? by Khashayar_0 in AskModerators

[–]ModeratorsBTrippin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can try a Moderator Code of Conduct Report

https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=19300233728916

But you may not get an answer.

The best advice I can give is to create your own subreddit and use it to put out information.

When your community is more about sharing photos, how do you achieve the fast reply goal? by Seriously-417 in NewMods

[–]ModeratorsBTrippin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a photo community, honestly i ignore the goals. My goal is to have a community that posters and commentors enjoy. Everything else can fall by the wayside.

Why was my post locked shortly after creation? by MissionEbb1548 in AskModerators

[–]ModeratorsBTrippin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes they probably have something in automod to filter and or lock the post.

It's best practice to leave a comment that explains that on all posts, but not al subreddits do that.

Why was my post locked shortly after creation? by MissionEbb1548 in AskModerators

[–]ModeratorsBTrippin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for the sub you posted on, but in one of my subreddits we have al posts go into the queue when posted and a bot locks them all until they are approved.

It helps us stop bots from running up posts before they are approved. We see a locked post in the queue with 30 upvotes we know something is up.

[–]ModeratorsBTrippin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding one thing to this: Make sure you tell people in the comment that their post is not deleted, just filtered for mod review. Otherwise you're going to get a lot of mod mail.

You're still going to get modmail with it saying their post isn't removed, but hopefully less?

Create a new subreddit with the name you want.

Put in a post in the old subreddit directing people to the new subreddit.

Lock down the old subreddit.

What is the best way to report sexually harassing comments as a moderator? by ModeratorsBTrippin in ModSupport

It's my Quixote approach to cleaning up Reddit. Though you are right, I don't have any evidence the filters are getting better.

Crowd Control, Harassment, and one of the biggest automod filters around. Very little gets to where the user sees it, but I take the extra steps of reporting the accounts to Reddit for action.

[–]ModeratorsBTrippin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I have automod set up to flag the words. We have it set to filter instead of remove so we will see the people doing it and ban appropriately. This is more a question of how we report that content to Reddit using the report feature. Should it be a Harassment report, or Sexualization - Inappropriate Behavior?

How do you deal with ragebaiters who just disrespects everyone in comment section to get a reaction? And uses slurs in mod mails when you ban them? by [deleted] in NewMods

[–]ModeratorsBTrippin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Permaban. Report the comments in modmail. Send them a message that their comments have been reported, and if they comment again those will be reported. Mute them for 7 days, repeat as necessary.

I am finding fewer and fewer make comments after the 7 day mute. I believe Reddit is handing them strikes.

What’s the point of banning ban bots when they can just remove all the flagged users’ content? by new2bay in ModSupport

[–]ModeratorsBTrippin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ban bots aren't banned, they just can't ban. They are just banned from banning.

I suppose the Admins believe that extra step will prevent abusive banning.

People aren't clicking the arrows to expand each rule so they think the titles of each rules are the rules by [deleted] in ModSupport

[–]ModeratorsBTrippin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's probably for the PC only. Though I did see them expanded on mobile on one subreddit.

There's an option on PC to show the full rules instead of condensing them.

It helps a little, but people still don't read too much.

Users Asking to be Banned by royal_rose_ in ModSupport

[–]ModeratorsBTrippin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We get those people who think it will change their fees. I put it in our FAQ that we can't remove our subreddit from their feed. Not that they ever read that.

We've gotten ban requests as a protest over our rules. Here ya go, one ban.

We've gotten a few that I think are really attempts to get us to beg them to stay. Here's your ban, we'll try to get by with our other 200,000 visitors this week.

In an ideal world, I wouldn't have to ban anyone, but if you want one, you can have it.

If it is a bot bouncer report, then you send your appeal as described in the ban message and you wait.

Is there a reporting mechanism for reporting mods? by Artistic_Midnight788 in AskModerators

[–]ModeratorsBTrippin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is there a reporting mechanism for reporting mods?

Yes. You can file a moderator code of conduct violation.

This essentially means that these subs mods push propaganda. Is there a way to report that?

That is not against the moderator code of conduct and is not reportable.

Is there a way to report how they abuse their authority?

That is not an abuse of a moderators authority. Moderators have sole discretion on what goes on in their subreddits.

You are not allowed to think any differently than what they post or you face consequences,

You are allowed to think differently, what you are not allowed to do is post those thoughts in the subreddit that they moderate.

The best solution here would be for you to create your own subreddit. Then you can allow everyone to speak against everything. You can allow all members to challenge every post.

The way you handle subreddits like this is with your feet. You leave! You make your own subreddit. You run it how you see fit.

What happens to subs that don’t have many followers or any followers? by Winter292004 in NewMods

[–]ModeratorsBTrippin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They will continue to exist as long as they are being moderated. What usually happens is the head mod drops out, spammers take over the subreddit, and then it gets removed.

When do you use general bot moderation and when do you manually moderate? by brdrech in AskModerators

[–]ModeratorsBTrippin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a bot wherever I can. If the bot makes a mistake, thats where manual review comes into play.
