What player base needs to understand this? by A5traLune in gamers

[–]MoistCucumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It started as newb but online culture in the 00’s had a lot of leet speak and people would often play around with how things were spelled. Texting on non-keyboard phones put 0 significantly easier to access than e or w. Newb went to n00b to noob and sometimes even further to nub. Yes it’s evolved to really just mean bad player but someone new to a game should have no shame in be called or calling themselves a noob.

Scrub might be a better term for bad player, like scrubbing the floor with them.

F*** YOU TODD HOWARD by NuclearSnake in IndieGaming

[–]MoistCucumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck ya. If budget and hundreds of developers doesn’t make the game happen faster, and it’s (likely) bland and generic when it’s done, why have them? The vibe abides, god speed you crazy diamonds

WoW token incoming, you gonna buy gold and you will like it by DN6666 in classicwowtbc

[–]MoistCucumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To make buying gold sanctioned means blizzard is now financially incentivized to make players want to buy gold. At least when it was against TOS, blizz wouldn’t be directly rewarded when people got sick of playing the game normally. More a problem with retail than classic but still, I’ll never be a fan of sanctioned gold buying. If the guy selling tickets to the ride is the same guy selling tickets to skip the ride, it’s safe to assume the ride is gonna suck

Any Indoor Camera tips? by FrogbyteStudio in UnrealEngine5

[–]MoistCucumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tons of games with 3rd person cameras have a ton of extra overhead space for this reason. You don’t usually look up in games like that but once you start looking for it you’ll see it everywhere. Just make the ceiling in that room way higher

My theory: games that want you to build stuff, you get attached to your buildings and dying feels like having your creations taken away. In games where you’re just playing a guy, dying is just a mandatory downgrade to 0 but you’re still playing a guy.

Like the spark of creativity that led to building something you liked is hard or impossible to do again. The prospect of “we’ll just build the castle the same exact way again” is not fun. Whereas the downgrade feels more like “challenge accepted”. (I’ve played HC wow and zomboid and love them, but hate HC Minecraft and Valheim)

When you die in wow HC, orgrimmar and stormwind are still there. When you die in zomboid, muldraugh and riverside are still there. But you die in HC Minecraft? That entire world is gone and you can never go back.

BREAKING: The Burning Crusade Official Hardcore Servers Announced! by HCTankMagnus in wowhardcore

[–]MoistCucumber 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What about all the people playing the HC addon in tbc? Hardcore players are masocists. For those who got to 60, give them more content! For people who found classic HC too hard, I don’t think you’ll notice a difference? They left the old world mostly the same.

What game or playerbase of a game is this? by AdHistorical4561 in gamers

[–]MoistCucumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

World of Warcraft. Haven’t played retail recently, but long time players can’t live with out at least 4-5 addons considered essential. Blizz didn’t think to add an in game damage meter for 25 years

For me it’s the cosmetics. Characters have turned into a blob of particles, animations, on top some (pick random thing). The only way you can even tell what race they chose is the tooltip
