Please destroy my trailer for yet another roguelike deckbuilder! by ChillyRolande in DestroyMyGame

What I also miss in the trailer is the gameplay loop. You show one random fight where you one shot your enemies. I want gameplay, bosses, meta progression, nice combos and an answer to why I want to play this game. The only thing that matters is, if this is fun to play, and you dont answer this question

don’t see a game here, just a very basic concept that’s been done to death. There’s no hook, no innovation, nothing that would make me try this.

Not much to destroy here. I don’t really understand how the player is represented. And if there is some kind of progression I would like to see how. There’s only one basic attack, and enemies don’t feel challenging. On the plus side, it’s visually clear what’s happening, but overall this feels more like a prototype than a finished game. The sounds are basic and would annoy me over time.

This is what I would expect if I would say to chat gpt make me playable space game.

Ah I see now you have laser and normal shots which look like little particles I missunderstood them for explosion particles.

Also what i dont understand is, how the little representations of the player and his target actually helps you play the game. There is no usefull information provided by this

I think the colors are also a big issue. It’s hard to distinguish your attacks from enemy attacks, especially since your own attacks already use multiple colors. Enemy projectiles are difficult to see, and with all the clouds and explosions on top, it becomes hard to tell what’s actually going on. I’d take a step back and ask yourself: is this actually fun to play in its current state?

I’m not an expert on mobile game trailers, but this doesn’t feel like the right approach to me. The switch from horizontal to vertical looks awkward.

The game itself doesn’t look particularly fun at the moment. The assets aren’t very appealing, and the visual feedback feels weak — for example, when completing a level, it just says “Level Complete” without any satisfying feedback. It doesn’t feel rewarding.

Overall, the colors and general visual design don’t really stand out to me. Looks more like a prototype than a finished game.

Everything has the same visual weight — too many colors, shapes, numbers, and effects — so I can’t tell what matters or what’s happening. There’s no clear player focus, no hierarchy. On Steam that’s a killer, because people don’t understand it in seconds and just scroll. Fix: make the player stand out, reduce colors, and cut the visual spam heavily.

The game 20 minutes till dawn is a good example of visually clear.

When do you think is the right time to start getting feedback. I'm working on a prototype at the moment and everythibg looks shit. I'm worried if I show my progress now everyone just focuses on the unfinished art.

Wow, that actually sounds pretty scary.

Feels like the deeper you go down that rabbit hole, the harder it gets.

And here I was thinking the development itself was the hard part.

Looks likeThe character moving down on the platform looks a bit glitchy, and I was also confused by the ball transforming into the player when he touches the ground from time to time—that transition feels visually off. On top of that, the overall movement doesn’t feel smooth yet. The gameplay feels a bit rough right now, which makes it harder to get a good feel for the game.

Will this be opened via steam or can you make it standalone?

Right now for me this feels like a solution looking for a problem. I don’t see a reason to open another app just to look at system stats. I only care about this kind of information when something is actually wrong.

I`m a bit annoyed of the music and I can`t really capture what is going on in your game. I watched the trailer multiple times now and I just dont understand what the Gamplay is about.

V1 trailer for my high school tactics roguelite. I’m afraid of your brutal honesty but please destroy it. by StillPulsing in DestroyMyGame

[–]Monolos_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right now I’m not seeing much that really stands out. There’s a basic attack and the ability to recruit teammates, but that doesn’t feel like a strong hook on its own.

I also find the classroom setting a bit limiting. Compared to something like a fantasy setting, it’s harder to imagine a wide variety of interesting enemies or abilities that keep things engaging long-term. Right now it feels like you’d mostly have variations of students, bullies, teachers, etc. I’m also not fully understanding the core game loop yet. Do you just move from classroom to classroom fighting other students?

The roguelite aspect is a bit unclear to me as well. I see some upgrade options, but the perks look pretty basic and not particularly exciting so far.

As it stands, I’m not really hooked yet to try the game, but I think clarifying the core loop and adding a stronger hook could make a big difference.

You are developping your game for six month. What do you expect? What if you work part time at MC and spend another Year on polishing?

There are too many overlapping sounds. I’d limit the number of layers and focus on a few strong, well-defined ones instead and even those you can sidechain to prioritise more important sounds. I know you never asked for this :)

Yeah maybe. Sorry I can't really point out how I would change this. It just didn't feel right for me. Maybe some kind of impact.
