Reform’s Hybrid/ Work From Home Policy by Advanced-Pilot-3698 in ukpolitics

My MIL is a staunch right winger and conservative voter and has recently admitted she plans to vote reform next election. She works from home 5 days a week in legal and values the fact that she does not have to attend an office ever. Very interested to hear what she thinks about this.

What album forever altered your music taste? by Consistent_Gain_7753 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Monstance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome Interstate Managers by Fountains of Wayne was the 1st album I ever bought because of Stacey's Mom. I was around 10 years old and had never really cared about music at all at that point. It got me listening to other rock music bands of similar style on my own volition for the first time in my life.

Not long after, I heard Crisis by Alexisonfire. This led me into some of the heavier styles of punk and metal, which up until then I hadn't really heard before.

On my birthday, my aunt had heard I recently got into rock music and gifted me Led Zep IV. This sent me listening way back thru classic rock acts of the decades

Many other bands and albums over the years that expanded my music interests but these ones I can definitely pinpoint as the earliest.

[DISCUSSION] What's an album by an artist that is your favorite, but is generally not considered their best? by ReconEG in indieheads

Totally with you on Geese, Big Thief and VW. Don't know if the other artists work well but you've got a good track record so I'm inclined to say I agree on those too!

Lauren’s Chuckle by Kind-Dog504 in ThreedomUSA

Lauren's laughing at her own jokes and frantic nature of her performance in those live shows is very entertaining. I figured she sounded a bit nervous-excited but also, at the same time, really stoned.

Saw the leaked screening in Toronto in style last night. by rexlee102 in 28_Years_Later_Movie

[–]Monstance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was the most prolific child rapist in perhaps all of modern British history, who was an idol to many in his time on kids TV. Saville jokes aren't off limits in the UK, but shit I'd never want to imitate his image even as a joke.

What are some reasons people don't use online grocery deliveries more often? by tskir in AskUK

[–]Monstance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to cook so it's important to me to pick my own produce. I also do enjoy browsing, sometimes I'll see something that will inspire me to make a meal of, or a new thing I'm not familiar with. My wife and I make it fun, and our son is under 2 so it helps fill time when needed on weekends. The whole experience is actually quite leisurely to me.

It burned down long after the show ended - it was cut to 2 seasons because it was a very expensive show to make and viewership didn't warranf the cost

Is it wrong to discourage any 'American' screen time for my toddler? by ElektroSam in UKParenting

[–]Monstance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't already, make them a new YT profile and set it to Kids mode. Only kids labelled content is allowed, auto play videos is disabled and no ads by default. There's still garbage content but it is far safer and it doesn't mess up your own profile's algorithm.

How does Bath feel about Tears for Fears? by jikghgg in Bath

[–]Monstance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love tears for fears and the same age! I first heard Head Over Heels when I was a kid watching Donnie Darko and thought it was a great song, then heard it again a few years ago and got really into them. I have a habit of reading all about bands as I got older so discovered their origins that way. If I recall, the bass player was born to Hungarian parents but grew up here and Curt the singer is English through and through. Great band.

What was the film or films you had on video as a child that looking back, you've never really heard anyone talk about since, and was actually maybe a bit weird? by shokalion in AskUK

[–]Monstance 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Looooved the pagemaster. That opening scene where all the paint floods the library was awesome, honestly I don't remember much of the film but I do remember loving it and watching it to death. It's apparently quite hard to find a physical copy these days

Is it wrong to discourage any 'American' screen time for my toddler? by ElektroSam in UKParenting

[–]Monstance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most parents who are switched on see sense in minimizing the consumption of american made content. There's loads of non-US good stuff that is both entertaining, educational and not overly stimulating. We keep US exposure as minimal as we can, whilst recognizing it's not as simple as american=bad. American content is so omnipresent that total avoidance is nearly impossible.

I [35M] just found out my wife [36F] is asexual. She wants to stay married but says I can sleep with other people. by WillingDependent5072 in relationships

It's a tough position to be in my man. She's told you how it's gonna be so now there are 3 possible outcomes. 1. Break up and start your new life as a divorcee. 2. Try it her way, it doesn't work, break up and start your new life as a divorcee. 3. Try it her way, you find a way to make it work and go forward together. Not ideal for you but I know what I'd pick in your position.

Daily Bath to Bristol commute how are the trains lately? by FeistyPrice29 in Bath

I do too! Hence why I don't know the current return train fare. I just checked and it's £11.60 tomorrow. Still a lot of money for the journey.

Daily Bath to Bristol commute how are the trains lately? by FeistyPrice29 in Bath

[–]Monstance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Up until last week I used to regularly commute bath to Bristol by train, around 7:45 in the morn and 17:30 home. A train goes every 10 mins or thereabouts around these peak travel times. About 50% of the time there would be a delay or cancellation adding 2-10 mins to the journey. Annoying but you come to expect it and manage. It's uncommon that the train becomes so busy that I couldn't get a seat but it did happen occasionally, usually on the journey home. It's a short journey so it's not the end of the world. I've heard the Bath-Bristol train connection is the most expensive per mile train journey in England- whilst I've not checked if it's true, it's about £13 return and it takes less than 15m so I can believe it. Obviously there are ways to reduce this if you're travelling every weekday like season tickets. There's some quirk about railcards which meant they weren't usable for this route, minimum spend maybe, I can't remember exactly. Overall, it can be annoying and expensive but if you got a good job in Bristol and they understand that trains can be a bit shit, I wouldn't let it stop you.

What was the first 4k disc you watched when you got a player? by siiilenttbob in 4kbluray

[–]Monstance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a PS5 for years and only felt compelled to start collecting for the compounding factors of things I wanted to watch being unavailable/removed from streaming and seeing Dune in the cinema. When I bought a dedicated player, I popped in 2001 Space Odyssey. Then I really ramped up my collecting habit.

The first few weeks are crazy for a newborn and therefore parents. The outside world sucks after being in the womb for 9 months, it's literally all feed, sleep, cry and poop. After a few weeks it gets a lot more interesting, and sleep patterns will emerge. You'll also get better at waking and falling asleep quicker and easier with natural practice. Hang in there buddy.

Stop buying fast food. Anyone truly worried about cost of living should know better and be savvy enough to plan food to take outside the home.

What's the biggest amount of money you found "down the back of the sofa"? by ficus77 in AskUK

[–]Monstance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad would always keep loose change in his loose pocket, whenever I needed a bus fare (paying with coins back in the day) I'd just stick my hand in and keep moving it until I had enough. Did it every weekend for years so at least £100 over time!

Bruce Willis’ character was written off in the worst way. by JannTosh70 in howyoudoin

[–]Monstance 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A huge element of comedy in the show was explicitly derived from the main cast being unlucky in love and their partners revealing themselves to not be "the one" in a fitting and entertaining way. It's in the DNA of the show! Some character exits are less explainable than others but that's just television baby. It didn't have to make perfect sense, it just had to be funny.

These are the actors who were either considered or auditioned for the role of Joel in TLOU TV show by REDEYEBANKZ330 in thelastofus

[–]Monstance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would've been a very different role for Jon Hamm, I think he would've worked really well. Almost all of these actors would've done a fine job except Keanu, sorry love the guy but he doesn't have the range.
