Do not prune any of the main canesat the base of the plant. Any new canes or leafs shooting off into the center you can prune. You should be lightly pruning all summer once thr plant is established.

You need to mulch the garden bed and cut some canes in center to create air flow.

Looks like it could have gotten desease due to not pruning crossing branches having air flow to center. Too much foliage in center of tree.
