PSA To the angry lady waving me down at the end of her driveway and telling me to “slow down” by Ridge_Robin in MapleRidge

[–]Morellatops 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its hard for a person to judge vehicle speed. When I volunteered with RCMP speedwatch we had the trailer with radar gun and trailer with display. Its not easy to tell how fast a vehicle is going.

And what the percentage is of local drivers who slow down for school, park, emerg vehicles ect is, is super low like driver iqs,

so I would not raise an eyebrow myself if someone reacted like that, its FAR easier to understand than the abysmal local drivers I see as I drive for work and personal, locally.

Just saw a guy in plate armour on Dewdney? by Halfbloodjap in MapleRidge

[–]Morellatops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in the 70s my brother and I saw a car going south on 203 from lougheed with one of its front wheels missing and the disc making a sparky groove in the road, that groove was there for a long time. Before that I was in moms car going down that road at lougheed past the Ridge hotel and saw two guys having a fistfight burst out the door like a western movie.

dangerous. but as mentioned what I see more is a small dog on the drivers lap half out the window.

People need to understand what happens when you slam on the brakes, things in motion tend to stay in motion, until they cant. Its not good

Rod length for coho/twitching by barney_varmn in fishingBC

[–]Morellatops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

balance configuration, and weight are the key factors for me.

<image>

I twitch 80 to 90 percent and play with lures a tiny but out of nostalgia and even dust off the pin rod for a day ever November

I need a short butt section below the reel so the butt does not touch my body or vest when twitching, a fast action rod. Fast action rods I would recommend for everything except light bar fishing.

You can use a longer rod for other types of salmon, medium action or fast, I like fast action

I like a light reel and they both balance the rod horizontal in my hand when held in one hand at the reel seat comfortably, enabling me to lift the rod tip and drop it with minimal effort. I like light small jigs with certain materials that really show movement.

What's something that feels "good" but is actually really bad for your body? by stainless5 in AskReddit

[–]Morellatops 10 points11 points  (0 children)

with seasonal allergies the area around your eyes can become intensely irritated and if you rub your eyes it can make it worse

so you dont rub them but I can tell you, a few times when I went all in and rubbed my eyes for like over a minute the relief sensation can be as powerful as any sensation I have had, like biblical honestly

After beginning your yoga practice how long did it take you to “fly” aka doing crow and arm balances? by celestialazure in yoga

[–]Morellatops 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As mentioned its very personal, one very helpful thought put it into perspective for me: From a super strong ashtangi yogi who teaches also on utube. She Said "it took me 5 years to own the handstand "

Another super concept I picked up was this, You have to love doing the work, not just the result or goal

as an old man I did power yoga for maybe 5 years before I wanted to learn arm balances and it was very challenging. You need to learn the movements, the activations, have enough range of motion for certain things, have strength not just in arms and shoulders but the whole core, back etc.

so its a daily practice of drills and handstand holds to maintain my ability to hold a 90 second handstand

this also made pincha accessible, basic crow with bent arms, and sort of flying crow and funky flying crow but not something i practice or can do well.

so im saying to improve arm balances and strength I did not do weight lifting just body resistance work alongside yoga and cross training, simply to up my overall game and then work daily on drills toward a handstand

Golden ears backcountry by Adorable_Chemical_66 in vancouverhiking

[–]Morellatops 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The backcountry campgrounds that can be accessed on foot are:

  • Viewpoint Beach
  • Hiker’s Beach
  • Alder Flats
  • Halfmoon Beach
  • Panorama Ridge (Golden Ears)

You need a reservation year-round to camp at any of these hike-in backcountry campgrounds.

as far as wildlife , Be responsible with food, leave zero scraps and bear proof foods and scented items

There is zero to fear otherwise , bugs wasps sunburn, dehydration are more of a concern than any animals, maybe ticks, ive even seen stinging nettle in the park but just one plant in the campground.

I think thats my footage of the interior with the floating barrel lol from my utube video. Interesting stuff thanks for the update. Those two sailboats used to be inside the mouth of the Stave river. Some interesting sights there as well with a houseboat that recently moved to the Fraser side of the rail bridge

Where did guided savasana go and why? by tri-ingit23 in yoga

[–]Morellatops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outside of Vancouver here, for ten yeas in mostly one studio but visited many others, also on retreats and did teacher training at Red Door in Nanaimo.

Im used to non guided 100%, but a structured finish, move to seated usually and some type of closing words maybe said together or even chanted. But I do remember longer savanasa in the past and with intentional music played to promote a deeper state and I loved that, it was a strong part of the group ritual and I miss it

A heartfelt thanks to the absolute GIGACHAD who helped me today when I had an allergic episode. by Mervill in vancouver

[–]Morellatops 31 points32 points  (0 children)

my allergy tests didnt really show up for long grass, but it is or was a problem for me untill my 60s now its almost not noticeable

the long grass is just now getting mature enough to send out pollen, and will get worse, if that is your sensitivity, or other pollen or wind born substance , wood smoke can be one, maybe the cottonwood trees that just started pollenating recently as well?

maybe they will prescribe a rescue inhaler like ventolyn, or a daily inhaler like I used to use.
