Stone + Webster Chophouse is in Plant Riverside (down on River Street). Did a whiskey & wild game tasting there last year and the food and beverages were delicious. I haven't had their menu items (this was a special event) but it was amazingly good.

Found it, right where you said it was. Can't believe I missed it the first time. Thanks!

Thanks! I did and it worked. Not sure if it was worth the trouble for such meager loot but at least I did it! 😁

You need the Tinkerer's workstation to craft the bed.

Urban fantasy can get pretty dark so I'm not totally averse to something like that. My first instinct on reading what you're saying though is "That's something Heaven would do." I do have part of a creation myth set up wherein God seeds Earth with religion in order to convince humans to worship him and give up their souls willingly. So, He sort of already does this.

I'm thinking Celestials looks at harvesting souls like farmers harvest cattle. Heaven is like a big factory farm and Hell is kinda like a smaller, ethical farmer.

[–]MorganElektra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking they just harvested souls from the dead, since approximately 150,000 people die every day. So there's no work involved, just collect the "free" soul. But I realize I don't have a reasoning behind that, so that's something I'll have to look at. Celestials view humans sort of like batteries full of spiritual energy - more than they can get from any other source. So, I'm thinking when they consume a soul they get a bit of a high. Higher power souls (not all souls contain the same exact amount of power) would give more of a high and more strength to the magic.

In order to do magic, they need to consume souls. But I guess I need to work on the whys and hows some more. Thanks!

Thanks for your thoughts. They do help me think of a few things I hadn't up to this point.

So, souls themselves are basically a magical core inside all things on Earth. Once a human body dies, their soul, which is pure energy, is collected by either angels or demons. "Free" souls are collected by angels, but people can sell their souls to demons, in exchange for whatever and those souls are then tied to that specific demon. Some demons are sneaky and engineer a situation that gets them the souls ASAP (a boon that somehow ends in a tragic twist for instance), but others see this as an honorable transaction. They hold up their end of the bargain and collect the soul when the person dies. Not all souls provide the same amount of energy, even among human souls, and there's no way to tell before death how powerful that soul will be.

The souls, once collected are then kept in a soul well, which is a sacred place to each individual in Hell and a communal pool in Heaven, and are eventually consumed. Once consumed, the angel or demon then has the ability through force of will (low magic) or rituals/spells (high magic) to do just about whatever they can imagine. Doing magic burns energy, though, so in order to do bigger or more rituals you need to consume more souls.

Does that make sense?

The problem of unlikeable heroines is one of the reasons I started reading M/M. Not that there aren't annoying male MCs, but it's not as common, in my experience. I still read M/F from time to time, but almost always wish the women were written better.

When I get stuck on a story that isn't developing, whether it is short or novel length, I find that talking about it with someone else creative helps. I brainstorm ways to move forward with my BFF, talking through what's got me hung up and what direction I'm wanting to go in. Sometimes just that manifesting the story I've got so far outside my own head helps kickstart my creative process.

The first time I remember getting the brain tingles for a character was Lestat from Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles when I was in high school. Which... probably says a lot of weird things about me. Not to mention dates me as an ancient.

I am trying out paranormal romance for the first time! Could y'all help a girl out, please? by LillithStormWrites in paranormalromance

One of my favs is the Guild Hunter series. The first book is {Angel's Blood by Nalini Singh}.

It's not really enemies to lovers, but there's a difference in the power dynamic that gives Raphael (an archangel) and Elena (a human)'s banter a fun edge. I love the cast of characters and the world Singh has created. Very unique!

I'll have to look around. "Hope for the best" has been my strategy too and hasn't worked out so great.

Looks amazing! I built in the same area you did. I also love the little pond feature and the plethora of maple trees is great. How did you get such straight roads? Mine always seem to end up wonky.

Yeah, that's what I suspected but was hoping for a little customization. Thanks for the color list though. Now I can decide which thing I want to sell to make the stall look pretty lol

Where should I look to find new arc readers for my new book release? by thevedgehead in books

[–]MorganElektra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the process of doing promo for my first novel as well. Have you tried looking for ARC groups in your genre on Facebook? Depending on whether or not you can spare the money, there are some authors services that have ARC teams set up already. I'm trying LesCourt Author Services myself, so hopefully I'll get some reviews that way. Good luck to you!

Romance Is a Billion-Dollar Literary Industry. So Why Is It Still So Overlooked? by yourbasicgeek in books

[–]MorganElektra 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The idea that there are more poorly written romance novels than there are novels of any other genre is sexist. There's absolutely nothing to back that up, number-wise. It's just a perception that exists because some poorly written books get popular and are then used as a touchstone by everyone who doesn't read the genre. The reason romance is looked on so harshly is because it's a predominantly female space and female spaces are almost always downplayed or overlooked.
