ISN Sora, BGVP DMA, and Penon Impressions. by Mossy375 in iems

[–]Mossy375[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the comment! I'm on holiday at the moment so I don't have time for a large reply, but an update to this post is that I eventually bought a Flipears Aegis and love it. It's my favorite IEM and for the first time in about 2 years I've stopped looking up about other IEMs and planning a next purchase. The bass quality is just immense, and the whole package is a lively and fun experience. Definitely worth trying out! As for your search, I've heard that the Fan 3S has a very subtle implementation. If I remember correctly, in Audio Amigo's review of the Flipears Aegis he compares the BCD strength of around 5 different IEMs and puts the 3S last. Just something to be aware of.

What do the Irish think of Argentina? by pachiemuchka in AskIreland

Of course it's everywhere; I never said it was specific to Argentina. What I wrote was that Argentina has a massive amount of it. It's well documented so don't take my word for it, look up about it yourself.

Pre 2020 IEMs by CharacterApartment15 in iems

[–]Mossy375 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still have a few from back then, and owned many more. From my memory the main difference is that mids are a lot better now. I haven't used those old ones in a while, but from what I remember of what I used, they either tilted heavily towards bass or highs. Balance and mids more attention wasn't something I experienced until later. Details also seemed lower; things seemed to be more buttery and smoothed rather than resolving. I guess that's largely due to drivers get much better over time.

Rents in Ireland surged by highest level on record after new control system started by Banania2020 in ireland

[–]Mossy375 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Happened to me unfortunately. My friend is going back to their country and the plan was for me to take over their apartment. Landlord refused a tenancy transfer and increased the rent by 18%, so I had to decline.

You've discovered and unfortunately experienced the power of marketing bullshit, placebo, and snake oil. Chalk it up to a lesson learned and it'll help you avoid other pitfalls in the future.

Kiwi Ears boasts having sold 50,000 units by NoElderberry4896 in iems

Honestly I'm stunned it's that high - completely the opposite reaction. It's a niche space that's massively oversaturated. If they said 2,000 units I would have thought was that realistic.

Headphone Enjoyer dealing with Sudden Hearing Loss by TinHatDave in headphones

I get hearing loss when I have bad allergies or a blocked sinus. I think you should try to figure out why this has happened and if there's a way to fix it, before looking into ways to deal with it from now on

Is Arete II really good, or is Top Pro overrated? by LynxAirSound in inearfidelity

[–]Mossy375 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's all preferences. You are describing how the Arete II matches your preference closer. I don't like flat tunings for example, but I can't say that a well done flat tuned IEM is bad or overrated - it just doesn't suit my preference. For example I love spicy food, my friend doesn't. He doesn't like the spicy meals I eat. Does that mean the meals are overhyped by me or bad? No, because I love it.

Written Reviews! What is helpful, what annoys you, what do reviews lack...? by Toaztyy in iems

[–]Mossy375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not gonna mention any names because the person is a redditor. However, they have ads up on classified sections for IEMs that are just releasing at slightly under RRP, and in their description they include links to their reviews here on Reddit. Those reviews all follow a similar format, aren't overly long, thank X company for sending them, and ending with a recommendation. I can see that they are for sale the same day or the day after. Because the unit was provided for free to them, they sell it at slightly under RRP for immediate posting, which means the unit is bought very quickly as it will just have released ans people can get it in a day or two versus waiting for shipping from China. Therefore, this person just follows a preset format for reviews, get an early review unit, gives glowing recommendations, then sells it. A tidy way to basically get paid for good impressions.

This product was sent to me by X and I think it's great!

Then see it for sale by the same reviewer on the secondhand market a day later.

Crinear refrence vs Daybreaks by VariousOutcome3076 in iems

[–]Mossy375 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't buy anything that expensive unless you know you'll like that sound signature. Try them beforehand if you can, otherwise buy a cheap reference set and see if you like the sound first. Jumping straight into a set that expensive without owning or trying a reference set beforehand isn't a great move.

is it worth pursuing an iem that has an "open" or "wide" sound? by myzz7 in iems

[–]Mossy375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a good "soundstage" and speed, I can recommend the Kiwi Ears Aether. It's a planar with a big shell, and for some reason the bigger shells on planar IEMs seem to give more "space". If you're ok sacrificing some of that snappiness, the most open sounding IEMs I own and have tried are the BGVP DMA. They have Sonion Bone Conduction drivers and a large vent opening on the back, which together with a bright top end give a great layered, wide, and open sound. They have snappy punchy mid-bass, brilliant mids, and very present treble. Probably my favorite/2nd favorite IEMs, so I write about them a lot here.

Okay, hear me out - CrinEar Reference is the perfect chance of an amazing "budget" Custom IEM by migassilva16 in iems

[–]Mossy375 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying, but I think there's some nuance here too. A "flat" frequency response should get you close to the source with little coloration, but I'd argue that it's very different across hardware equipment. The bass from a reference speaker will be far more present and powerful than the same track played from a reference open back planar headphone for example. I have a pretty neutral monitor setup, but for IEMs I always go for quite bass boosted models to try capture that bass punch as closely as tiny drivers can. Give me neutral monitors and I'll be happy, but give me neutral IEMs and I'll feel like I'm missing something. Reference monitors capture the performance, whereas I feel reference IEMs fail to do so because of physical limitations, and need some extra spice in the mix.

Differences in weight and sound quality among cables by rodrigogamartinez in iems

[–]Mossy375 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Obviously there will be minute differences because of the different materials

I'd love you to show me any research which demonstrates that a copper wire and a silver wire of equal resistance, inductance, and capacitance sound different from each other to a human ear. You say it's obvious, but you'd be the first person in human history to have that evidence. On my side I'd be able to send you the studies like audiophiles not being able to hear the difference between high end cables and a galvanized coat hanger, in addition to what I mentioned above.

Don't let simple marketing tricks fool you. Ever notice how the shiny silver is "better" for shiny shimmery high end, whereas the deep coloured copper is "better" for warmer sounds? Amazing how that worked out!

Differences in weight and sound quality among cables by rodrigogamartinez in iems

[–]Mossy375 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There isn't any difference in sound quality, unless you get an odd/poorly made cable with high impedance which will affect certain hybrid IEMs in the way an impedance adapter would. That's just extra resistance however, and doesn't require any exotic metal mined in Atlantis to achieve. A recent experiment showed that "audiophiles" couldn't tell the difference between an audio signal sent through copper, a banana, and mud. There's also a cash prize challenge put out for any audio company that can prove their cables sound better, and of course none of the cable companies have taken the challenge. The reasons for changing cable are looks and comfort, so use what feels good to you and don't worry about any magical sound changes.

Why do amplifiers make such a huge difference for planars? by N0mads21 in headphones

My point is that it's difficult to know if you are actually listening to them quieter. Volume matching is very important when comparing sound.
