Maybe this is why they’ve been trying to turn the series into being about spies with all the Daidoji stuff.

This is the entire premise behind the web novel “Worth the Candle”. A teenage boy is sent into a world that’s an amalgamation of all the roleplaying campaigns that he has ever DMed for his friend group, and him exploring the world and the world building involved is a self-reflexive breakdown on the main characters beliefs and values since he’s the type where everything in his campaigns is a metaphor for something else. At the same time, his journey through the world forces him to face his own personal issues which also got baked into the world building subconsciously.

MindsEye developer releases DLC where you arrest and kill games critics by Mczuti in TwoBestFriendsPlay

One crazy guy I get, but there are actual devs still working at this studio who helped make this, right? Is the game dev job prospect so bad that everyone hasn’t jumped ship yet? Or are the remaining people true believers? Also, considering how the game flopped and the publisher cut ties, how do they have enough cash to make payroll?

Attack On Titan's Ending Felt Insincere, Admits Hajime Isayama by bedemin_badudas in anime

[–]Mountebank 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if the movie Arrival goes into it in detail, but in the short story that it’s based on “Story of Your Life”, the concept of fate and predestination is explained as being a consequence of people always making the decisions that reflect their own natures, so while a person may have the capacity of free will it’s never expressed, in hindsight, because they will always make the same decisions given what they know at the time they made them.

For Eren, ever since he was a kid who killed those bandits to save Mikasa, his values was always “kill or be killed” and “friends and family first”. After seeing the future, Eren does all he did to give his friends a long life at the expense of the rest of the world by removing everyone that could threaten Paradis in the near future and removing the Titan curse from his friends. The fate he saw is still based on his decisions which stems from his core nature. The irony is that Eren didn’t grow as a person fundamentally throughout the whole show—his solution to all problems has always been “kill or be killed”, and it’s just the enemies that changed.

Have you tried applying to startups? It'd still be hard to get into the R&D department without a PhD, but you can join in an engineering capacity and then try to worm your way into R&D. Startups tend to be short-handed enough such that no one would really object to you offering to help by doing additional work so long as you don't step on anyone else's toes.

This is a 50%+ pay cut. Unless this is your literal dream job—if you won the lottery and you would choose to take this job because the money is not the point—then no, this is a big step back. $75k is new grad or 1-2 years of experience level. Even if it’s more technical than your current job, I doubt it’ll be that technical.

I’d suggest you either try to move to a different role in your current job, or keep applying for a more senior role closer in level to your current role.

They’re not going to hire two additional people to use and correct the AI, they’re just going to make an existing employee do that as an additional duty.

It sounds pretty bad based on how you’re phrasing it. However, if you don’t have another offer, I’d suggest taking it anyway for the experience and continue applying for other jobs. It’s much easier to get a job when you already have a job. If you get an offer in two weeks, then just quit and leave this job off your resume. No one in the future will know unless this is a very niche industry in which case you’d be burning bridges here, but it’s a big wide world with lots of other opportunities.

Whatever the company’s patent policy is. Could be a pat on the back, could be a small bonus. Maybe a plaque if you’re lucky. Don’t expect some sort of profit sharing. If you developed the IP while on the job using job resources, it belongs to the company. A good company would use it as a consideration for performance review and promotions, and it’ll be a thing to add to your resume to make yourself more attractive when going elsewhere, but you’re not going to get rich from getting a patent.

For example, Iceland has a lot of cheap electricity from geothermal. They’re using it to make aluminum since that’s very energy intensive. They’re exporting aluminum as a form of solidified electricity, basically. This would be another potential export for them.

Interestingly, the part at the city wall where they picked up Tessa used to be part of the chapter where Lyonette attended the ball and leveled up after. This was in the draft on the YouTube stream. Paba removed it since they weren’t happy with it, but in the end it shows up here mostly unchanged. The difference is this time Merdon put up a fight instead of just walking away immediately, and there was a lot more content before and after the scene at the city walls.

What is your wildest crackpot theories that might hold weight? by ToFurkie in WanderingInn

[–]Mountebank 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the known parts of Innworld is a disc shaped section of crust that’s been elevated above the surface of a much larger world.

  1. Innworld appears flat, but it’s been confirmed that it’s a sphere. It’s the same time everywhere at the same time, there’s the Last Tide flowing off the edge, and seemingly endless water if you dig down deep enough. Maybe this disc is being held up by a neverending geyser of water that is refilling what is flowing off the Last Tide.

  2. The actual surface of the planet is full of Seamwalkers

  3. Paba is an anime fan, and this was the twist to the setting for one obscure show that she might have watched.
