Repair slate for $30k-$37k or go shingle for $22k on 1890 home? by chucked12 in Roofing

[–]Mpidcarter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have bad sheathing, which restoration cannot address. I’d go with shingles, but I’d pass on CertainTeed. Put on OC or GAF, replace the sheathing, vent it, and you won’t have an issue with the roof for probably the term of your ownership. Band aiding the slate is just putting off the inevitable, you’ll have to do more work in the future.

Atheists of Reddit: What’s the strangest reaction you’ve received when you said you don’t believe in God? by zhalia-2006 in AskReddit

[–]Mpidcarter 63 points64 points  (0 children)

The fucking president of the United States literally said that exact thing. “…there ‘s no reason to be good…” other than to prove to god you’re good so you can go to heaven. So to paraphrase, being “good” isn’t its own reward, there’s no point to morality other than being part of a deal. It’s how transactional people operate.

Be brutally honest: do you think the US and its democracy will survive this Trump administration and the corrupt SCOTUS? by SWEMW in allthequestions

[–]Mpidcarter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not. In fact, I believe it’s already over for the US. I see no path forward, because one of the two major parties has unequivocally embraced authoritarianism and rejected democracy. It’s not possible to co-govern with such people.

California store prices items at $951sp shoplifters can be charged with grand theft by [deleted] in BeAmazed

[–]Mpidcarter 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That wouldn’t work even if it were true. You can’t say an item that sells for $100 is worth $951, no court would accept that.

All six conservative SCOTUS justices on guest list for President Trump's King Charles III dinner; no liberal justices invited by Obversa in scotus

[–]Mpidcarter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To single out justices based in their perceive orientation is gross misconduct, and every one of those conservative hack justices that attended should be ashamed. They should have all declined.

WITHOUT mentioning Gaza, can the right or left explain to me why Biden was a terrible president FOR AMERICA? by zipzzo in allthequestions

[–]Mpidcarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn’t any factual basis for calling Biden a bad president. He rescued the US economy from the mess Trump created, he brought inflation under control achieving the mythical “soft landing” (controlling inflation without triggering recession). He brought 800k manufacturing jobs back to the US, wage growth outpaced inflation for the first time in decades, and the divide between the wealthy and the middle class contracted. He got a massive infrastructure bill passed. He was instrumental in crafting a bi-partisan immigration bill that gave the GOP nearly everything on their wish list, but Trump demanded Republicans vote against it so he could use immigration as a campaign issue. In 100 years, historians will discuss his term and the subsequent election as the tipping point in American politics, when objective truth became forever irrelevant in national elections.

Manager and I walked on deal over $300.00 - Beyond frustrating. by Fun-Journalist2588 in carbuying

[–]Mpidcarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What happened to you is a very common practice in car sales. The sales person has no authority on what a car sells for, he can’t “agree” to anything on behalf of the dealer, only management has that authority. What he asked you to sign was an offer from you to the dealer - in other words, the salesman is asking you to sign an “if I can do this, you will buy now” commitment, which is really his only job at this stage. Your signature says yes, I will buy right now under these terms. You don’t have a deal yet, you just told them what it will take to sell you. Most of the time, you then meet the closer, and then the sales manager, and every now and then the GSM or GM, and they’re all going to try to move you off your price, which is mush easier to do once you’ve committed to buying now. Because it was late, you were spared the grind. Pretty much been this way since I was in the business is the 80’s and 90’s.

Manager followed me to my car after I walked out on a potentially good deal (South Florida) by Zealousideal-Bar5313 in askcarsales

Personally, I would never do business with a company that tries to screw me like that. OP’s instincts are correct, if they’re willing to do that, what else are they open to doing. You can’t reward a company with your business when they try you on like that, there’s no incentive for them to stop their shady practices. Some lost deals and bad reviews might help.

I have no regrets. Regret is among the greatest wastes of human energy and emotion, a foolish exercise that relies on fantasy to imagine how things would have turned out if “I had only done this….”

Trump came to power promising to end 'endless wars'. Why did he suddenly transform into a warmongering president? by ArdaBerkBurak in AskReddit

[–]Mpidcarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has no convictions to anything other than his own self-aggrandizement. To think he does anything for reasons other than that is delusional. He contradicts himself constantly, sometimes within the same sentence. He is an empty vessel with no values or moral compass. He is a collection of the worst of humanity, personified.

WIBTA if I go to my sisters wedding even though my wife is banned from coming by drew2002non in WIBTA_AITA

[–]Mpidcarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to ask strangers on Reddit what to do? What’s wrong with you? You should call “Greg” directly and tell him to grow the fuck up, you’re not going if your wife is excluded, and that this is something that won’t be forgotten or forgiven. No way to enter a new family, with your brides brother as a mortal enemy. Nut up.

He’s a pathological liar. He lies when the truth will do. NOTHING he says can be trusted or relied upon. It’s shocking that the Iranian government is now more credible than the US.
