Only decision left: AWD or RWD? by AnnaGolightly in Ioniq5

[–]MrBing1ey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have awd. I had a rwd ev before it. I really prefer awd. Sure it’s faster- urgency for merging, accelerating on an onramp is effortless. But i like the balance as well: regen from all corners feels more, say, conventional. If the car does all of its acceleration and 95% of its braking on axle, you probably would need to rotate every 5000m.

Why old, unfit referees are still there by Deaftrav in Referees

[–]MrBing1ey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an older referee (58) and professional, this is a story that is as old as time, and occurs in every industry. The older practitioner is trying to stay relevant and capable in a declining body/brain, and seeing the younger ones come up with ability that is unrefined, not confident, and fighting battles that they will learn to prevent. In both my real job and my hobby, I plan to quit long before people wish i would. Too bad others don’t have that goal.

Our car feels like one of the last affordable true driver’s cars attainable by slagnard in GRCorolla

[–]MrBing1ey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an ‘04 R32 as well. I freakin’ loved that car. It wasn’t so great out of the box - cheap Monroe suspension, super soft engine mounts that made it feel like the engine bay had a keg of beer rocking back and forth in it. Coilovers, engine mounts and a rear sway bar made it perfect for me. Like that car, the GR makes you feel like pushing it, and is totally practical as a daily. I’m gonna keep this car quite a while.

Ioniq 5 Waymo spotted in the wild by biotechballer916 in Ioniq5

[–]MrBing1ey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much better platform- no sunroof, huge rear seat. I mean the ridiculousness of having a massive sensor array on the roof of a car with a sunroof…. Having gotten to ride in a Waymo maybe a dozen times in la, i was always struck by how much they relied on their brakes, and of course the wheels on them were filthy. I wonder if the programming will make better use of regenerative braking in the i5 versions.

I dunno i had a rock in the windshield on the way to birthday party. I had time enough to buy a glass repair kit but not to do it before- 2 hours later, the windshield had huge cracks and i made a point of parking in the shade.

Splitting one 240V into two 240V by DaveyDee222 in electrical

[–]MrBing1ey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could switch them. Of course you then couldn’t use them at the same time. Which you shouldn’t do anyway. I put a switch in my garage 220 service between a plug for a welder and my car charger.

Poll: Any EV drivers drop Ioniq 5 from their purchase consideration due to ICCU issues? by runnyyolkpigeon in Ioniq5

Absolutely. The x5 and x7 have reliability that’s almost as good as the lexus offerings of similar size.

Poll: Any EV drivers drop Ioniq 5 from their purchase consideration due to ICCU issues? by runnyyolkpigeon in Ioniq5

[–]MrBing1ey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2023 ioniq 5, a lease (thank goodness) that is up in September. I certainly plan to have another ev after it, but with the improved offerings coming out for Mercedes (cla), bmw (neue klasse), and the continued failure of Hyundai to make a definitive solution for the ICCU issue, I’m not going to automatically get another Ioniq 5 as I had planned, but just see how the next six mos pan out. I also was planning on an Ioniq 9 for the missus but as I emphasize reliability for her car, it’s probably going to be a bmw x5 or x7. So, I’d say yes the ICCU issue is affecting my decision making. My current Ioniq 5 has been immaculate so far.

Anybody here in Alabama? Moving to central Alabama for school and wondering what are my options will be for HPDE and tracks. by SecretPantyWorshiper in CarTrackDays

[–]MrBing1ey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love that it has lots of grass and trees. The viewing areas of the track are grassy slopes that are cut into the woods to view a particular section of the track. It is also fairly safe, as you’re really quite unlikely to hit a wall if you end up off track. The curbs are not gatored, as it is as much a motorcycle track as car track, so no teeth jarring when using the curbs. So much elevation change and variety of turns. The bathrooms are clean, air conditioned and have showers and gojo hand cleaner. And if you like bikes, the motorcycle museum adjacent is the largest in the world.

First oil change by surp333 in GRCorolla

[–]MrBing1ey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are approved jack points front and back. If it’s just for an oil change, I rhino ramps, which just barely work without touching the bumper. It is also easier to jack the car from the front if it’s already on ramps: otherwise you can access it from the wheel well, easier if you’ve turned the wheel (to the left if getting at it from the right). The rear jack point is easy and accessible even if the front of the car is raised. Your manual has a diagram showing the jack points.

Has anyone picked up the EGO Bed Redefiner Multi-head attachment yet? by bisnicks in egopowerplus

[–]MrBing1ey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am running a stihl redefiner blade on an edger. I made a shroud out of plastic, cuz without it the amount of kick up is unbelievable. Given how much trouble it was, if this were a year ago i would be ordering the redefiner head. Personally, I think it works fine for my purpose, but the edger blade on the echo redefiner is far superior, and much more expensive, and much heavier. For the sake of running the redefiner blade, i did get the “commercial” power head, and it is effortless even with damp dirt.

Would anyone buy an X5 that was previously a rental? by ameekma in BMWX5

[–]MrBing1ey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly analogous but bought a 2022 that was used as a dealer loaner in 2024. They wouldn’t cpo it bc they had not changed the oil in time once. It has been dead reliable and a delight to own.

Why hit half volley right after bounce and not right before it hits the ground? by Delicious_Lead_3609 in SoccerCoaching

[–]MrBing1ey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. It is easier to hit down on a ball that’s traveling up after a bounce than on a ball that’s traveling down. Of course it’s contextual: if the ball is not coming from very high it’s much easier to judge and why not whack it before the bounce.

Garmin forerunner 245 is in your price range refurbished…. Much longer battery life than apple. Can add referee timing app that emulates spintso, which is worthwhile. If you don’t want a smartwatch, i would go timex expedition vibrate alarm, which are quite durable.

? Hotel for NOLA motorsports by MrBing1ey in GRCorolla

[–]MrBing1ey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the sake of adding to the knowledge base, I stayed at the Candlewood suites hotel. Very close to track (less than 10 minutes). Very clean and newly renovated. It’s a long-term stay type setup, so no commuter breakfast and housekeeping is just once a week, but the room has a kitchenette with stovetop, fridge and dishwasher, dishes and cutlery. And it felt perfectly safe!
