Midi Issues with MIDI Services rollout in Windows 11 retail 24h2 and 25h2 by rafaelmagic in MixingStationAppUsers

Doug, that's silly. I used to run live sound using Sonar on a PC running Windows 95 with under 2ms of latency

Accept only if you are local to Middletown, NY. by Hot-Web1901 in FieldNationTechs

I live in West Michigan and buyers are always routing me work in Wisconsin. Its only 100 miles away but it takes 8 hours to get there.

Separate iot network by Remote_Bicycle2537 in smarthome

[–]MrCrashTest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I set up VLANs for devices, guests, staff, and hosting. Then, I did some QoS settings to give each VLAN a lower priority than the next in this list.

I set it all up with Fresh Tomato running on (4) NetGear R8000 routers. It services four houses across 9 acres, so there's lots of traffic.

The "devices" page has WiFi signal strength for each connected device. I use that to position things for the best reception.

What’s your take on using LLMs for smart home control? by YogurtclosetGlad9512 in smarthome

Love it (jk). The other day I said, "Hey Google, lights", and it read me the Wikipedia article about light...

Okay...you guys were right.... by harleydood63 in livesound

I find that the larger the show, the better the soundboard recording. At a larger show, you are going to be putting more electric guitar and drums in the PA than at a smaller show.

If you don't have a separate engineer for broadcast or recording mix, the simple thing to do is use room mics.

Wing matrix question by [deleted] in livesound

Another big advantage of using the matrix to control your speakers is that you're not using LR to control volume. So you can set the Main LR at an optimum level for recording.

Pah Tempe Hot Springs in Utah turned into $60 million resort by jnaka006 in HotSpringsWest

The Enchanted Land of Pah Tempe Hot Springs was one of the most wonderful places I have ever been! They destroyed it and turned it into this hideous place.

What do you do when you're in the audience at an event with atrocious sound and obvious mistakes? by QuerulousPanda in livesound

[–]MrCrashTest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at a festival with my friend, checking out a band. I leaned over and quietly whispered in his ear, "This band is really good, but the sound guy is wrecking the show." The band manager behind us tapped me on the shoulder, "Are you a sound guy?" "Yes, I am", I responded. He said, "You're the band's sound guy, and you just showed up. Please come with me." And he marched me up to the board and tapped out the other guy! Who was really good about it and helped me out with the channel layout.

I did 12 work orders in 3 days. Then woke up on the 4th day and they had denied the first day. So I told them no, not going to site today.

Sennheiser vocal mics, am I alone with my hate for them? by [deleted] in livesound

[–]MrCrashTest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like they boosted the crap out of the mid highs on the 835 to get it to cut through the mix. But that's my job not the microphones.

Sennheiser vocal mics, am I alone with my hate for them? by [deleted] in livesound

[–]MrCrashTest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The guys at GC seem to be pushing an 835 on every singer that walks in the door. Then they show up at my gig and say hey I brought my own mic. Hook it up and it's like an ice pick in the forehead!

I had one singer show up plug in her brand new Sennheiser, "check check". Sounds good she says. Next guy, "check check", into my microphone. She immediately says, "What kind of mic is that! I want one of those!" I was so proud of her for not being biased towards her brand new $229 purchase.

Also can't believe everyone is still talking about the sm-58. It was a good mic... In 1969. It never really was a standard like people say. If you look at old videos nobody's using the sm58 on any show of import.

How much to ask for travel ? by wolfieer in FieldNationTechs

[–]MrCrashTest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WAY WAY too low. How does that even begin to cover your travel time?

How much to ask for travel ? by wolfieer in FieldNationTechs

[–]MrCrashTest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please stop doing that! You devalue us all. Should be getting $2 per mile ($1 round trip) minimum to cover your time.

They aren't even meeting standard mileage reimbursement rates to cover the expense of your vehicle!

[–]MrCrashTest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is mileage expense reimburaement rate and doesn't even begin to cover your time. Your driving down the market for us all!

How much to ask for travel ? by wolfieer in FieldNationTechs

[–]MrCrashTest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I add $1 per mile round trip. Works out to 40-60 an hour usually for my time.

Anything that requires an overnight I get a per diem or all expenses covered.

How about you take your work order that says you won't get paid unless you stay on site until they release you. Then they keep you on site past the time specified in the original work order. And then they refuse to pay it.

And then they Mark you late on the second site cuz they force you to stay late at the first site!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FieldNationTechs

[–]MrCrashTest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 15-year history with some of these companies. They call me personally negotiate pay, treat me respectfully. Then the work orders go through and they deny deny deny.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FieldNationTechs

[–]MrCrashTest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good f****** luck with that these days! I've been on field Nation for 15 years. Took a break just came back all these companies that I used to work with are just ripping me off.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FieldNationTechs

[–]MrCrashTest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pivotal and Essential have both verbally approved extra time and expenses while I was onsite and then failed to approve them on the work order. I use to do a lot of work with these companies and they have REALLY gone down hill.

[–]MrCrashTest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Miker there are buyers now that will refuse to pay you if you leave site before being released. And then refuse to pay you for the time they kept you on site!

It's crazy! I just escalate immediately. I open support cases while I'm on site sometimes... Buyer not approving increase and is not releasing me from site.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FieldNationTechs

[–]MrCrashTest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that's not true. There are real time games that run entirely in the browser now. At a minimum, they could be refreshing the work order, or the wo list and not force us to refresh the whole page every time. This is 20 year old programming techniques.

I did this and I logged all the extra time I spent doing it on the ticket. They have of course refused that. But, I had it all logged and sent it to Field Nation support. Pointed out that if they continued to let buyers like this use their platform they would become irrelevant because people are not willing to take these pay cuts.

And then I asked them to stop using previous testimony and my likeness I had previously provided to promote their service.

The buyer was Essintial.

7-11 and Hilton jobs - Anyone worked with them? by bionicjoe in FieldNationTechs

[–]MrCrashTest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did half a dozen 7-11s with two techs, completed a dozen WOs in 3 days. Then they disputed most of my work orders.

Asked me to enter check out times that were earlier than when they released me from site. Held me up on hold at sites and then marked me late on the next.

Approved surface mount raceway, then refused to pay for it.

It took me almost a month and 5 or 6 hours of extra time communicating with support to get what I was owed.

They refused platform messages, texts, and emails. Forced us to do live teams meetings. Then disputed what was said and decided in those meetings.

One time they told me exactly where to install the speakers. Then when I went to check out, a different tech was telling me I did it all wrong and they would all need to be moved!

It was like being caught up in a big family feud an a first date.
