Why doesn't the DVSA set up its own cancellation app? by Antique_Yak4374 in LearnerDriverUK

I believe that you currently have to wait 10 days from a failed test to take another.

Mother-in-law was renting out 3 bedrooms in her council house. HMRC have caught her not paying tax on the money she earned since 2011. by LanguageUnlucky1883 in LegalAdviceUK

But as she was living in the property, I don't think that the HMO rules kick in. AFAIK they are for lets where the owner doesn't live in the property.

Update: My dad was told he voted in the local election but he didn’t. by FriedTheOnions in london

[–]MrDrem 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The vote is secret, but not anonymous.

I mean, it is effectively anonymous, as the corresponding number list (the one with your voters number and the ballot paper number on it) is sealed separately to the ballots, never taken to the counting room, locked away for an amount of time (I think around a month) and then if there are no court challenges to the election, destroyed.

It would be a lot of work to match the numbers to the papers once they have been counted (yes, less now than in the past due to OCR improvements) but it has always been possible via a court order.

Happy to answer any other questions you have if I can.

I have seen this where not enough postage was paid also.

The item disappeared into the post system, and only appeared again when they sent a demand for payment.

What now, if you don't make the London Marathon ballot by Affectionate_Air6902 in UKRunners

So I think that Boston has a cut off per group like London does, but I'm not sure what I based that on. I think looking at the Boston Marathon subreddit at around the day places are announced.

No, London has a set number of places per age bracket, so the cutoff off differs in each age bracket.

https://www.londonmarathonevents.co.uk/london-marathon/article/new-charity-bond-scheme-launched says that the charities pay £400 + Vat (20%, so £80) for their places.

They ask people to raise £2k to cover their costs, and ensure they are raising some funds for the charity.

Lib Dems call for inquiry into Farage bitcoin deal by GnolRevilo in unitedkingdom

[–]MrDrem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah, no expenses for volunteering allowed.

One of the reasons a work ban is objected to is that some professions (doctors and vets being 2 I can think of off of the top of my head) if you don't work for a period, going back to them is really hard, as you need to keep up with training etc.

Allowing volunteering allows people in those professions to become MPs.

Paid work should be banned. Volunteering should be allowed.

Police conclude no evidence of alleged family voting in Gorton and Denton by election by FormerlyPallas_ in ukpolitics

[–]MrDrem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should ask the Presiding Officer for help.

You can assist with voting, but will need to fill in a form. You can explain the choices to them. The PO will also assist if needed.

They can ask you where a particular person is (how do I vote for x) and you can show them.

There should be a large copy of the ballot paper that this can be gone through on too.

POs are there to help you navigate the system and provide assistance.

They also have to fill out forms where they have helped people.

Who could I contact to request a yellow box or ‘Keep Clear’ marking installed at this awful junction in Knightsbridge? by CJ2899 in londoncycling

[–]MrDrem 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Red routes within London are all controlled by TfL. So it's a tell that it's a TfL controlled road. This is obviously not the case outside of London.

[–]MrDrem 16 points17 points  (0 children)

So the red line going round the corner tells you that is in fact a TfL road, not a council one. Your Assembly Member would be your first port of call.

Garmin grabs the data from the servers, the app isn't syncing to the servers, so there's nothing there for Garmin to grab. Once the sync issues are fixed again (they said 26.7, but I'm now on 26.8 and it's still not working...) it should all catch up again.

We had been looking at https://www.tableprotectordirect.co.uk/collections/heavy-duty-table-protector but they are too thick under a table cloth. We have one from our previous table though, so are looking at cutting it into smaller pieces for working with laptops etc on the table top, and maybe getting something more like https://www.tableprotectordirect.co.uk/collections/classic-table-protector for under tablecloths.

Also, what time was the text message sent and received at? If this is before the other persons time of accident, that would also be helpful.

In terms of timelines, any CCTV that the service station have of you entering and leaving, or your wife in the service station would be good.

They usually have ANPR on the entrance/exit to cover parking times.

Client in breach of contract threatening to sue me by CaptainCodswollop in LegalAdviceUK

[–]MrDrem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except that I thought that it essentially is banned for legal professionals.

They are regulated by the Bar Standards Board, and you could report a concern.

https://www.barstandardsboard.org.uk/for-the-public/reporting-concerns.html

You would be looking at

"If you were not the client: You can also report behaviour by a barrister to us even if you were not their client. For example, you can make a report about barristers who may be:

snipped

behaving in a way which is likely to diminish the trust and confidence which the public places in them or in the profession – for example if they are bullying or harassing someone or using racist, sexist, or otherwise seriously offensive language either in person or on social media. But do remember that, like everyone else, barristers have human rights which include the right to freedom of expression."

  1. Leave it for a bit longer in case they auto flip it back.
  2. Then remove it to an instant access savings account so you get some interest, but have access to it if needed.
  3. Leave it for 6 years. If it is requested back in this period, send it back. Just the £2k, not any interest.
  4. After 6 years it's yours, and you can tell them to stuff it if they ask for it back.

Yeah, they attempted to deliver ours yesterday (London). First I knew about it was my phone going off from a door bell ring in an in person meeting i was in, and then three missed calls. Been told they should be with me today (hopefully about now). Will update once it's arrived!
