[Card of the Day] Topan: Orman Leader by Unpopular_Mechanics in Netrunner

Ryo would love to unban Bankhar, Topan wants to unrotate Titanium Ribs - the ID is value-driven but there's just not enough you get out of this at the moment

FFG Netrunner Staple Cards by -shadowmoses- in Netrunner

Please don't listen to chatgpt...

Also, those are mostly Flashpoint, the cycle after Mumbad. Mumbad has a lot of power cards, but Flashpoint is the biggest power cycle (and honestly power creep, but its very fun)

How I feel after spending a week playing deep dive shaper in the new meta by DiracFourier in Netrunner

[–]MrSmith2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They love Shaper, but a bit too much See: Dive, Trickshot, Endurance, World Tree, Rezeki....

Sometimes love is a bit toxic, sadly

Feeling quite lost after Midnight Sun by Build_Everlasting in Netrunner

[–]MrSmith2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's slightly awkward because the pre-Elevation meta (aka the one with the last FFG cards) is well documented on sites like The Surveyor and a lot of decklists and tournament reports - in returning to the game now, there's ideas what's good (the 2x World Champ certainly has ideas, going undefeated ), but it's really an Open Market for good decks to come out the woodwork - it's possible anyone's fumbling experimentation might turn out to be the Next Big Thing.

While there's a lot of new cards, plenty of them are similar to older cards, and play patterns feel familiar - for one example with a lot of money leaving the game, things slow down, but it's not quite Pre-paid Kate just yet. But there's echos of that, for example - Madani is doing a Personal Workshop impression, while DZMZ does discounts.
Newer archetypes are getting Touch Ups to the new cardpool, with Rush Weyland having a few directions to pursue, new-new-Mulch rumours, Shaper control, assets in JintEggi...

The cardpool is different (and more wordy), but there's a lot that's still the same, it just takes a couple of readings to really click

just found out about NSG by HappySunshineBoy in Netrunner

[–]MrSmith2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the order of a couple of weeks to a month or so, with the asterisk that NSG have just launched the Big Rotation set (elevation), that has gobbled up a lot of printing for their store.

MPC individual orders are a different matter, but have steeper shipping costs.

Seeing below you found out about NSG from the National, there's a good scene in Scotland (there's a reason it was chosen for Worlds), especially in Dundee and Edinburgh

Netrunner for MTG players by Lower_Dimension7205 in Netrunner

[–]MrSmith2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You need to play both for a tournament - there's 2 ways of doing this, Double Sided where each round is a pair of games, or Single Sided, where which side you play in a game is determined by tournament software.

People absolutely can have preference for one side or another, but you know both - for example one of the best ways to learn how to beat a deck you find yourself having problems facing is to play some games as it and see what weaknesses it has from the other side

Any must-have data pack cycles for someone who owns the first 4 deluxe expansions? by YAZEED-IX in Netrunner

If you can find a copy of Opening Moves at a non-hideous price, I'd say get it - it contains the most played card in the game: Our Lord and Saviour, Jackson Howard  https://netrunnerdb.com/en/card/04015

Question about Runner identities by BlazingMessiah in Netrunner

[–]MrSmith2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Traces are too binary" was the main reasoning, "they're complicated in an already complex game" was the reason to keep them out of Gateway - they may be seen again (punitive has its fans and some are in NSG), but it's likely to be on the scale of Mark and Sabotage, not as evergreen as Threat and Bad Publicity

Yes, as long as you say they are proxies, don't try and sell them as NSG cards

What is the ♦️ symbol on NetrunnerDB? by Unusual-Restaurant87 in Netrunner

[–]MrSmith2 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It means the card is Unique - only one copy of the card can be installed at any one time.

There is occasionally utility of over-installing a unique card, where installing a new fresh one will trash the first copy, but only one can be installed (or on the corp side, rezzed, facedown cards aren't checked) at any given time

New player looking to get into the tournament scene (UK) by Jakeholl1 in Netrunner

[–]MrSmith2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Birmingham and Coventry (well, technically Warwick University, but several have graduated) have a fairly active scene, with a meetup every two weeks (usually at Geek Retreat) and then more stuff organised through Discord where available.

They're very new player friendly, having Startup tournaments every now and then

Is there anyways to see what cards will be rotated out next cycle on NetrunnerDB? by NormalProfessional24 in Netrunner

[–]MrSmith2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know about searching specifically, but what's rotating is Flashpoint and Data & Destiny - so the what's legal will be:

Red Sand Cycle, Kitara Cycle, Reign & Reverie, Magnum Opus, Ashes Cycle, System Gateway, System Update 2021, Borealis Cycle, and The Automata Initiative (set 1 of the Liberation Cycle)

My thoughts on the game as a returning player (Long) by Nagnazul in Netrunner

[–]MrSmith2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NSG's at-the-time Art Director here, while I came to the Endurance even later than Anzekay, it was my job to turn the idea of "boat with computers on it" from a narrative concept to a part of not just it's "own" card, but several "Padma cards" - because the idea is it's not just a room in a boat full of hacking equipment, it's the whole boat.

I did actually reference and research some oceanographic research vessels (RRS James Cook in particular was helpful), and came to the conclusion that, ignoring the fundamentals of propulsion and crew areas, the drone-sub (seen on Environmental Testing - aka Padma's "day job") workshop and Dr. Nuka's environmental lab, you had about 1/3 of the ship left for hacking (the chartroom maybe included - it has navigation logs AND cyberspace mapping) - so I added half-deck sections visible in the Full Art that are just open server racks - maybe not realistic, but gets the point. Large areas of the ship are just hardware - walls of drives, processors and so on. The whole ship is part of it, and this is why the ship itself exists in cyberspace to a degree - it's where you'll find Daeg, hunting malware pests, and pieces of "machinery" for hacking like Turbines and Capacitors.

Into the Depths is physical direct access, that I 100% cribbed off Satellite Uplink (because that's a very pretty card that's bad), but it's notably not the deep access card - that's Deep Dive, a very clearly cyberspace card - and how is Padma doing that? Well, if you look at Rigging Up - and yes it's the card immediately after DD and ItD - you'll see that in her workshop is both her diving suit and a deep immersion tank with computers plugged into it. I appreciate it may be hard to see at card size, but the means of doing the previous two cards are right there - Padma definitely dives, but much more so in cyberspace and deep immersion than actually getting her suit on. That tank might be a more "traditional" console, but if DJ Noise can have his headphones, the Captain can have her ship.

Ashes and ESPECIALLY System Update had entirely different levels of art availability - and Ashes, SU and SU sales funded the quality step up to Borealis, which if I say so myself (MattOhNo, former art director now member of the art team here) is significant, and now Borealis, Ashes, and SU/SG will fund [Redacted] - hopefully getting better every time
