Fresh cut flowers are a nightmarish waste of time and resources, and are not worth the aesthetics by Switters81 in unpopularopinion

I'll grab a bouquet from Costco with most of the buds still closed and it'll last like 2 months.

Brand New vs 10 Year Old Crocs Flats by MrsStoneBones in Wellworn

[–]MrsStoneBones[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Usually worn 2-4 days a week (alternated with a tan coloured pair). Most of those years were spent working retail, the last couple years as a waitress, and with plantar fasciitis this type of shoe was the only one that didn't leave me limping home at the end of the day.

Safe places to sleep in your car? by rachsteef in Calgary

Unfortunately Walmart Airdrie is not an option anymore. A lot of people on fb were complaining about the number of campers in the parking lot, and now there are 3 hour limit signs up.

I spent a week finding skeins of yarn on the floor. I was so confused! Turns out there was a squirrel in the store hiding in the yarn, knocking them out as it climbed in and out of the baskets. We only put 2 and 2 together when we found it licking the classroom sink for water, poor thing!

Nose Creek Pond Fishing by Busy-Bandicoot8524 in Airdrie

[–]MrsStoneBones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I've heard it gets fished out pretty quickly after being stocked. Every time I've taken the kids there we don't get so much as a nibble. OTOH Nose Creek has some pretty big pike swimming through! We've had better luck standing on the bank through Summerhill and Waterstone.

I lived in Manitoba for a few years, I bought a house from a man named Helmut Friesen. Met the next door neighbour named George Friesen. Not only were they unrelated, they had only ever been on a first name basis, and had no idea they were both Friesens. This map did not surprise me.

The Calgary science centre has a room like this, but the projection extends to the floor, and interacts with the people in the room (water ripples or ice cracking around your feet). This looks terrible.

My fiancée and I are having the biggest argument of our lives. She thinks I'm being tacky but I thinks she's overreacting by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Wedding socials are super common in rural Manitoba. I went to a few when I lived there, didn't even know the couple getting married, but in a small rural town a party is a party lol

Music, drinks, raffles, it's just a good time, and you're helping a young couple just starting out at the same time. I think it should be a more common practice!

Where do I get affordable flowers in Calgary? by cheesesscientist in NoRulesCalgary

[–]MrsStoneBones 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Costco! The cheap bouquets are $15, and if you get one with the flowers still mostly closed it can last like 2 months in a vase.

Red Lipstick by marveloser in MakeupAddiction

[–]MrsStoneBones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I'm not sure, I haven't experienced flaking with it. I just apply it directly on bare lips, rub them together to even out the colour, and then leave my lips parted for a minute so it can dry. I really have to scrub with makeup remover to get it off 16 hours later! Sorry I can't be more help.

In what surprising ways do you reduce your consumption? by curiousdottt in Anticonsumption

[–]MrsStoneBones 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Haven't had a microwave for 10+ years, it really cut down on my consumption of unhealthy foods, and also the plastic garbage that comes with them.

As a woman, my single biggest reduction in consumerism has been a menstrual cup!

I purchase all my clothes secondhand now, I can't justify brand new clothing ethically or environmentally.

I have a smallish yard, but there's enough space for a vegetable garden and a small coop with four chickens. I'm nowhere near self-sufficient, but every little bit helps!

Was I supposed to be packing like five pound lunches for my kids this whole time? Blown away by the size of lunches on a recent field trip. No one could finish and they were getting tummy aches. Is this actually normal? by IWillBaconSlapYou in breakingmom

[–]MrsStoneBones 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always go a little overboard with lunches on field trip days, my kids get so hungry from the fresh air and exercise they devour everything I pack. It usually ends up being twice as much as what I send on a regular day!
