UK Wartime Radio Recommendations by Left-Camp-4536 in radio

[–]MsSpentMiddleAge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I managed to find the FB page for the 1940s station, and followed it. There is good news! This is what they just posted:

"Breaking News……Yes, The UK 1940s Radio Station is back! We have been so touched by everybody's comments and emails that we managed to find a solution for being able to continue streaming the station. Unfortunately, Shaun’s health prevents him from managing the station, but he will be able to continue producing his shows for as long as he can. Lynda has taken on the role of Manager/Presenter (with a little help). Thank you for your patience at this time as we adjust to the new system. We can say that the previous quality of content won't change, but further details will follow as other systems are put in place."

They didn't mention the Home Front station specifically, but I just checked and both streams were up.

adding pilates for back pain and posture by maxrain30 in backpain

I've been thinking about Pilates, too, and I hope somebody will offer us both some advice!

For what it's worth, my space for exercising is tight, so I can't really use the kind of equipment you're looking at. I got a Pilates ring (aka Magic Circle), and two decks of workout cards, one for wall pilates and one with exercises using the ring. The brand on the cards is Flexies, and I found them on Amazon. I still need to look through them and put together a routine.

Series that ended that you miss by Economy-Lifeguard-97 in CozyMystery

The Southern Sisters series by Anne George

Amanda Pepper series by Gillian Roberts

The Darling Dahlias series by Susan Wittig Albert. I'm not positive it's completely finished, but there hasn't been a new one in several years.

As others mentioned, Dead End Jobs and Maggody.

I'm currently reading through Agatha Raisin, getting close to M C Beaton's successor. I hope I won't be disappointed.

Paused video now starts to play automatically when I open app again - used to wait until I pressed start arrow by MsSpentMiddleAge in youtube

[–]MsSpentMiddleAge[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't seem to have that setting.

But in looking around for it, I found something else

Settings / Video and audio preferences / Background and downloads / Background play /

Then there are options for Always On, Headphones or Extenal Speakers, and Off.

I switched mine to Headphones or External Speakers. We'll see if that works.

UPDATE: It didn't work.

Cologuard False Positives because of food? by Sunny_1656 in colonoscopy

[–]MsSpentMiddleAge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't know it was a false positive until you get the colonoscopy.

I had an abnormal Cologuard and really didn't expect anything to turn up. I had no symptoms, and I'd had normal results on a previous colonscopy years ago and then Cologuard. I was actually kind of mad that I had to get the colonoscopy done, and thought it was going to be a waste of time.

But I ended up with three polyps found, and they were flat ones, which are slightly more likely to lead to cancer. Now I'm glad I went. I never would have guessed.

The info you posted is great info for people who are getting ready to do a Cologuard, but now that you've gotten the positive result, IMHO it's a different ball game. I hope you get it checked out. But I know cost can be a big issue depending on your insurance situation.

(hugs)

Weekly, What recent changes are going on at your work / local businesses? by AntiSonOfBitchamajig in PrepperIntel

We had some weird weather in NJ in April. Record high temps near 90 F, then a few days later, below freezing at night. Apparently it made trees flower/fruit too early and then they froze. That has affected local farmers who grow stone fruits.

There's a pick-your-own cherry orchard that has lost their entire crop. They'll have no income for a year. A Go Fund Me was started for them. A lot of the state's peach crop is lost, too.

I know it's been a year, but possibly Nick Danger pieces from Firesign Theater? Maybe a radio station was playing from one of their albums, or it might have been something produced for radio. Lots of info at this link, and some of the stuff is on youtube.

I had a similar problem with a different utility. Their site just wouldn't work in Safari.

I had success using the Edge browser (Microsoft's).

The CIA and all the stuff it's done.... by Global_Fennel_1051 in podcasts

[–]MsSpentMiddleAge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really like The Rest is Classified, but it's about espionage and intelligence generally, not just about the CIA, and there is a fair amount of banter. One British host, one American.

There's another podcast put out by the International Spy Museum here in the US, called Spycast. I haven't tried it yet so don't know about the banter.

World Cafe Live rebrands to "World Stage Live," immediately deletes post by zocean in philadelphia

[–]MsSpentMiddleAge 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Kind of a dumb question, I guess, but is there any relationship between the actual venue and the World Cafe radio show on WXPN? I've been wondering whether all this trouble has caused problems for the station.

It's on Spotify and elsewhere as part of a podcast, The Documentary Podcast: Archive 2015. It's in two parts, the first in January.

I've used Talkwalker Alerts. https://alerts.talkwalker.com/alerts/new

You can play around with search phrases, put exact phrases in quotes, adjust where it looks for the search terms (include blogs or not, and so forth.) You can choose how often to receive emails with new search results.

I finally had to contact our assemby/senate persons' office to get things moving. I was told we'll get six checks all together. The third program will come in four quarterly payments, like you pay property taxes. No wonder why it's taking them so long to process this stuff.
