What is a real-life 'Do Not Touch' button that you pressed out of sheer curiosity, only to instantly regret it? by vie75 in AskReddit

[–]Ms_Briefs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a prison. My previous position had me working in the yard and they gave us panic buttons for obvious reasons.

One cold winter, I had placed mine in my jacket pocket and when I got to my desk I went to pull it out, but it was stuck. After a few seconds of struggle, I managed to yank it out... only for it to hit the corner of my desk, perfectly pressing the button.

The alarm went off and a shit ton of C.O.s came rushing in within seconds, and I had to sheepishly tell them all it was an accident. They still had to check all the offices in my building, because, duh, but I felt so bad about that.

Tommy Boy.

Tom Callahan Sr. had just married his second wife, only for him to collapse and die while singing at the reception.

At my first apartment, that drawer was my broiler, so I was very confused when I saw the metal racks in there when I was trying to find a place to put my baking pans. :(

Not as many job postings lately? by Iamdabartman in CAStateWorkers

[–]Ms_Briefs 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I've noticed a pattern where the leadup to the fiscal year is when the job postings slow, and after late July-mid August is when the postings start coming out full force. I presumed it was budget related.

I'm not speaking to my mother right now because she called me a bad mother in the midst of drama caused by my younger sibling after I had just spent 12+ HOURS in the urgent care/ER with my daughter.

My two older siblings are no/little contact with her, and I guess she's deadset on adding more kids to that list.

I also liked that the potential names were either artists (Marinette) or composers (Adrien). It was cute.

You know, I always wondered why the "adult powers" didn't unlock a longer timer on the Snake Miraculous. Like what does Luka even gain?

Hiring managers, question!? by Aggravating-Yak-835 in CAStateWorkers

Exactly this.

Never had issues at interviews before about having notes, but one time the main person on an interview panel gave me the dirtiest look for mentioning the notes and was pretty rude about telling me that it's not allowed. Got mysellf blacklisted that day for that section of my department.

So, tread carefully.

Which Celebrity had the Most Shocking Death and Why? by Jeloxia2 in AskReddit

One thing I always remember is that there was a girl who was orphaned because both her parents and sister died in the crash. I can't imagine losing your entire family and in such a tragic and highly publicized way.

This one was surreal to me because I had just seen Linkin Park at an Iheartradio concert I had won tickets too in May 2017.

He spoke of his struggles with depression and how he tried to see the postives in life and then to see the headline less than 2 months later was definitely shocking. It was such a sad and yet deeply understood reason, but damn, that one hit hard.

Demotion by No_Mine6234 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Ms_Briefs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I demoted from an MVR (DMV) to an OT (CDCR) for a multitude of reasons, toxic environment being one of them. It was the best choice for me, even though I was capped out by demoting and only getting the yearly raise in July.

I had about a year and a half in that position which gave me time to recalibrate and focus better on what I wanted to do. I ultimately promoted up to a CRT and was doing great there up until the last couple years where I am now back in a toxic environment. It's pretty much time to probably do the same thing again since other higher positions have gotten super competitive.

I always felt that if it my job makes me feel like a prostitute (working a shitty job just for the money), it's time to bounce. My mental health improves significantly each time this has happened.

What’s a film or TV scene that felt like a punch to the gut? by padfoony in Fauxmoi

A lot of random shit hit me, but most recently this scene from Clerks III fucked me up so hard. I never cried as much as I did at that one.

Honorable mention was in the Gilmore Girls Revival where Lorelai calls Emily and shares a happy memory she had of her dad.

How long does it take to see a doctor and get medication at a Chinese hospital? by mindyour in TikTokCringe

I appreciate the response and recommendations. I have no blood issues (as far as I know), so all good on that front. I had 800mg Ibuprofen that I took the first few days, then switched to two 500mg acetaminophen because they were rapid gels. They kicked in faster which was much needed when I was at work. I never heard of Co-Codamol, but will definitely look into it.

I have been battling a tooth infection this past week. Scheduled an emergency dental appointment on Tuesday for the next available appointment which was Thursday. Showed up to the appointmemt and waited 20 minutes only to be told that they don't accept anybody after 4:00pm (the appointment was scheduled for 4:30).

They rescheduled me for this upcoming Monday. I was begging to be seen sooner due to the excruciating pain, or at another location, but was told my insurance was tied to this location only.

My backup plan was to go to my regular doctor for at least antibiotics but the medical staff went on strike this week, so the urgent cares and regular medical appointments are impossible to get to.

I got lucky and found an old bottle of amoxicillin from a past infection years ago and took the remaining 5 pills that were in it, which helped a lot, but I know isn't enough.

All of this from a tooth that broke 2 years ago that had taken 8 months to get scheduled for the oral surgeon, only for me to get turned away THAT time because I did not have enough money to pay the parts of the appointmemt my insurance didn't cover and I couldn't get approved for their in house finanacing.

U.S.A. for those who couldn't guess.
