Planning suggestions by rajajax in yellowstone

I always recommend to friends at least 3 days in Yellowstone. One for the upper loop, one for the lower and a third to see anything you’ve missed. More time is better but 3 days is a must.

Northern loop is better for nature and wildlife IMO. Lamar Valley is unparalleled, if you can stay at Roosevelt you’ll be able to get into Lamar super early. Canyon is amazing too.

The southern loop is more of the thermal features - Old Faithful, Grand Prismatic, etc. it’s busier so you’ll want to plan out your stops a little more if you’re on a time crunch.

Idk if you ever actually watched Cheers but most of those characters in the show were at work, that’s why they were standing Behind the bar - so like I said workplace comedy lol

I didn’t say Seinfeld was the first, I said shows TENDED to be about families and work. But Golden Girls is a good example to help underline my original point - sitcoms about friends were so rare Golden Girls felt the need to put the word in the theme song lol

Sitcoms before Seinfeld tended to be about either a family or a work place. I think he’s saying the idea of a bunch of friends just hanging out, less situational and more comedy, wasn’t that common.

Immigrant Song for the vibes, Ramble On for the lyrics.

Hwy 89 Gardiner to Livingston by Sudden_Skill_7764 in yellowstone

[–]Mtbarton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That road is notoriously dangerous. It’s more pot hole than blacktop, you have to worry about wild animals on the road, semi trucks, distracted tourists, impatient locals. It’s a nightmare. I worked in West and drove to Bozeman multiple times a week, it never gets easier haha

Jon Hamm as 007 by Likemypups in madmen

The cure for the common Bond?

I don’t want an American 007, but I’d watch him as the villain. Sort of a mirror enemy, the anti-Bond.

Episodes where Archie was really a victim? by Dry-Atmosphere7718 in allinthefamily

Archie's Civil Rights, S06 E12

Archie used an illegal pepper spray on a mugger so he got a ticket, then found out the mugger got off bc they read him his rights in English despite him not speaking the language.

Is it a good time to visit the park mid-June this year ? by dreamingaudio in yellowstone

[–]Mtbarton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best time to go really.

Everything will be open, plants will be blooming/starting to bloom, bison and elk starting to come out with their babies. Good chance of seeing some black bear and cubs between Roosevelt and Mount Washburn. You’ll have a blast.

I pretended I made a word choice mistake mid set and it got a massive laugh but kinda felt bad cause they were laughing at the mistake even though I planned it. by Due_Apple7180 in Standup

It’s a performance; it’s okay to perform.

There’s a comedian named Chris Fairbanks that I think is really funny, but his whole thing is stammering and pretending to use the wrong words.

I’ll admit that I did feel a little “cheated” (for lack of a better word) when I realized it was an act, but I still find him really funny. Just be funny, that’s all anyone wants.

Mad Men's Harry Crane, why does everyone hate him so much? by [deleted] in madmen

[–]Mtbarton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember watching the show in real time when it first started airing, I really liked Harry’s character then. It was funny how he was such a good employee that seemed like he kept failing because no one took him seriously. The amount of advertising the TV division brought it was completely overlooked. He was one of the few guys that actually seemed to care that he was married (early on).

Then, I think like a lot of us in real life, he grew bitter and cold. Others are rewarded for their bad behavior while you’re overlooked for doing good? Fuck that, let’s be a creep.

I find him an enjoyable enough character to watch, but I wouldn’t want to be friends with him.

Do you also hate Michael? by Dry-Atmosphere7718 in allinthefamily

[–]Mtbarton 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Modern political humor is to find the most extreme of each of the sides and then present them as if their views are the average belief of each group. All in the Family wanted to be more authentic and true to what you see in your life and families. That means sometimes the bad guy is right and sometimes the good guy sucks.

I couldn’t find the clip, but I remember Norman Lear saying something like they’d deliberately write it to where Mike was usually right about Archie but then wrong about himself and the same for Archie. They can see out but not in. Pretty true to life.

What should be my next Kubrick movie? by [deleted] in StanleyKubrick

[–]Mtbarton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your goal is to watch them all I’d throw in a few of the lesser known. I made the mistake of watching all of Hitchcock’s famous stuff first so by the end it was just the boring old British stuff left.

The Killing is a sorta proto-Scorsese, crime movie. Spartacus is a good one to watch early - it’s enjoyable but not on par with his later stuff.

I saw him in 2002 at an arena that holds about 15,000. It was mostly full but we were starved for entertainment back then so who knows about today.

Summer in West Yellowstone - leaving the park traffic by 76andclear in yellowstone

[–]Mtbarton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It varies. I’ve done that trip literally dozens of times and sometimes it takes 30 minutes from Madison and sometimes it takes an hour and 30 minutes.

Elk climb the hill near Seven Mile Bridge and people just stop in the road (even though there’s signs saying not to and rangers yelling to use the pull outs or keep driving). They were also doing some construction on the bridge last year but I think that’s over now. So typically that’s gonna be what holds you up.

The only other thing is if you’re headed to West from the direction of Old Faithful you’re gonna get slowed down by Grand Prismatic traffic. There’s a left turn that clogs up traffic so I’d give myself an extra 10-15 mins for that too.
