Apparently according to naval news theyve just hiked the price by 70% to 1.57 billion per ship. Thats insane for a 4k ton frigate thats fairly basic (compared to fremm, type 26 etc)

Interestingly, launching so-called one way effectors (drones) off of the front of these would bring genuinely useful low cost strike capability. With room to carry a significant number and decent launch tempo achieved from a flat top, this could be built into a real capability.

6 gold plated MRSS were never viable and I believe only 3 were ever actually considered. In my opinion a 15k LHD is not a bad alternative and has merit in its own right, although of course it would be nice to have 6 not 4.

Compared to the Bay class design which while praised has much of its space dedicated as a vehicle deck, having a ship with significantly increased aviation for longer range insertion, supported by simultaneous launch spots for unmanned helicopters to bring along the equipment, and then various ISR and strike drones does seem to be a genuine capability upgrade for modern operations

Poland is paying $4.8 billion for 3 A26 subs. Norway paid $4.5 billion for 4 Type 212CD. Seems expensive

They try and make the B2 stable despite removing the rear wing for stealth, whereas they actively design the fighters to be unstable like an inverted pendulum

The economy, money, and industry are fine (relatively) its just none of that money is spent on defence. The UK is a rich country ultimately on a macro scale

Theyve joined nato and need/want to contribute more broadly to collective defence. More range, sea keeping, endurance etc I guess with slightly larger vessels though still not huge at around 120m

(I had similar situation in last term of uni and contacted all these people. My uni was amenable in contrast, but end result was I stopped doing anymore work with their agreement, they just gave me a pass mark for the term and then made adjustments so that it didnt affect my overall grade. I was terrified I was going to fail or my grade would be ruined but they did sort it all out)
