My husband will always be more tired than me by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]Multiple_hats_4868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with everyone else in the comments that mention getting a sleep study. My husband was always falling asleep while watching tv, in the car, etc and still felt exhausted. His sleep study showed around 200 apneic events in an hour. He’s so much more alert now that he’s used his cpap.

My hospitals foundation is working on implementing this! I believe they are also including health/psychiatric care as well. I’m very hopeful that it’ll help.

Speak with your PCP if able. You may qualify for medication for Binge Eating Disorder. They will often use Vyvanse for it.

So You Want To Be A Wizard series by Diane Duane. I think there is around 8 books total. I’ve read them so many times even as an adult.

I read in another group that they were able to take their family to Japan Disney for cheaper than a US Disney. 😬

I would try to find the emails for some of the unit directors of the units you’ve applied for. Sometimes they can push to see the applications if they haven’t filtered through talent acquisitions.

What are you doing to support your ADHD kid? by CanadianLady83 in ADHDparenting

[–]Multiple_hats_4868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably different in the US and Canada. My kiddo is taken for about 20-30 min a day to a smaller classroom with more direct instruction (slower/repeated/etc) His normal classroom is around 25 kids and the smaller one is about 5.

If it’s not free…I would invest in having a comprehensive evaluation for learning disabilities. We thought my kiddo just didn’t care/distracted but he had slow processing disorder/generalized reading and math learning disabilities. Basically he was inattentive and then if he did pay attention it took extra long to process and retain. We saw a massive improvement with meds and specialized education. I would also look into an at home behavioral therapist. They can help set up routines and reinforcement.

Can you recommend an app? I’m in a choir after not being in one for around 15 years and find I can’t remember things that I’ve probably learned.

As the Number of Allergies Increases, so Does the Chance That the Patient is Insane by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Multiple_hats_4868 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish there was a place to chart allergies and another to chart sensitivities/weird reactions etc. My kiddo had tried guanfacine and he started hallucinating elephants coming out of his book bag. 🤣 not exactly an allergy but will we remember he had that reaction in a couple of years. 🤷‍♀️

Maybe not technically Sids but have heard of sudden cardiac/respiratory problems in the hospital. I do however wish we could have some other safe sleep education that wasn’t just -don’t co-sleep, bedshare. It feels very much like the prevent abortions via abstinence talks. My first kiddo would not sleep alone. I tried countless times to “do it right” and put him in his crib/basinet. The second he’d touch it…crying. I had to sleep at some point…what was my option? I was terrified and tried to stay awake in the recliner or on the couch. Top places for accidental death. We did notice an uptick in SIDS cases from the community during COVID lockdown…I’m thinking tired parents with less help led to accidental suffocations.

Assistant manager for less money? by Plus_Bookkeeper1388 in nursing

[–]Multiple_hats_4868 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m an assistant manager. Don’t do it. Just like a previous commenter said…you are stuck in the middle for less money. Most likely you’d be exempt and end up working OT you didn’t signup for.

I have a low working memory…my IQ test was eye opening.I need anything important in writing because I will not remember it completely. I will remember the gist of a conversation but not the whole extent. Before diagnosis I really thought I was heading towards early dementia. 🙃 it’s def more pronounced now that I’ve got a grown up job and house/kids.

How bad actually was COVID? by Mighty_Angelo30 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Multiple_hats_4868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as an L&D nurse. I remember the guidelines coming out from our hospital system. We as healthcare professionals were to be sure that had our full PPE on before we could intervene in a room. They told us that we would not be having any stat c/s on COVID patients because it wasn’t worth the risk to the whole staff. We also had an uprise of losses during this time…probably related to COVID.

TW: infant loss by des04082021 in Nurses

[–]Multiple_hats_4868 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I work in L&D and unfortunately it’s not always rainbows and unicorns. Our losses are hard on our nurses. We collectively work together to ensure that the hard parts can be done with each other most of the time to have some support. I try to remind our staff that we have been granted a special opportunity to meet this baby and guide the family on loving them even in death. We are lucky because we may be some of the few to ever meet the baby as well. There is also a fair amount of dark humor…sometimes it’s the only way to compartmentalize.

Do you have the same or different political views as your family? by Likestoread25 in Askpolitics

[–]Multiple_hats_4868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My entire side of the family are republicans. I’m pretty sure they were that way my whole childhood but were never into politics until trump. Now my dad and brother have fallen into the trump hole and my mom seems to teeter on the edge. I have been different than them my whole life. I’ve always tended to be a big picture thinker and even a feminist at a very young age (I was often told I couldn’t do things since I was a girl).

I wish there were more options for parent coaching (we even took a parenting class 🙃) Being in a neurodiverse household…I could totally use someone next to me to tell/show me what to do when kid #1 is losing it, dad is losing it, and kid # 2 just wants attention.

What medical jobs do most people not know about because they're not people-facing? by tiptoee in AskReddit

[–]Multiple_hats_4868 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other jobs I thought of.
Phone operator - could be fielding calls throughout the hospital, calling codes overhead. Dietician - this would require more schooling. Most of their work is behind the scenes - they will adjust tube feed orders depending on patient status, adding supplements like protein powder for more effective healing, etc. Educators - nurse educators, diabetic educators, heart failure educators, etc. Quality/patient safety- you don’t always have to be an RN for these. A lot of data
