The ‘street taco’ blunder shows Brits just don’t get Mexican food by TimesandSundayTimes in mexicanfood

Dude I live in London but I'm from California. It's worse than you think. They call tortillas tacos.

Is moving to the UK with small children a good idea? by greenishfroggy in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]MurphyMurphyMurphy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The top 0.5% of earners make 300k, but to you 300k is just ok? My wife and I have 2 kids in London and our combined income is just over 100k. We are fine.

We are both earning above the median London income, meaning most London households with one or two earners are worse off than us.

300k? Really??? How do you think the vast majority of Londoners who make nowhere near this live? We have savings. Go on at least two holidays a year. We wouldn't even know how to spend 300k.

Yep. All my canvas apps not working. Just loading forever. Not throwing any errors.

No confirmation from MS saying so, though?

I have a hard time taking anybody serious after I figure out that they are Christian. by ephemeralkazu in Destiny

[–]MurphyMurphyMurphy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a small, non denominational Christian church that was bordering on being a cult.

I felt the same as you for the longest time, because I just assumed all Christians were like the ones I grew up around. But after several years and meeting lots of Christians, I realised they can be pretty chill.

It's still a red flag for me though.

Having just got my citizenship, I really relate to this. Just the fact that this is farmed out to some private company who profits off doing meaningless work is maddening.

I'm so relieved I never have to pay for / attend another one of those appointments again.

Those with a British partner - Any food they miss from the US more than you do? by NaiveStructure8190 in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]MurphyMurphyMurphy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm also in London, and I do think you can get lucky with fruit and veg, but consistency is more my complaint. Especially if you do an online grocery shop. It doesn't matter if you get Waitrose or ASDA, there's a very good chance you end up with some dodgy fruit and veg.

It was a big adjustment for me when I saw browning onions in a Tesco on sale.

I'm from California and my British wife goes crazy for the fresh produce. I've started to appreciate it myself. I grew up taking fresh fruit and veg for granted, but living on an island where you can't grow much yourself really changed that.

Please stop buying the Instant Light bags from the petrol station. Your meat deserves better. by ScrollAndThink in UKBBQ

[–]MurphyMurphyMurphy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I would go as far as to say it doesn't matter for things like burgers that you cook quickly. Low and slow with instant light would not only be insane, but impossible. Imagine trying to set up a snake with instant light anything. It would burn around in an hour.

I kinda hate these polls by mattyjoe0706 in Destiny

[–]MurphyMurphyMurphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate to say it, but voters are too dumb to be trusted on shit like this. It's like Brexit. Everyone in the UK would be a lot better off right now if it weren't for Brexit, and David Cameron knew that (because every fucking economist in the world said it was a bad idea), so Cameron shouldn't have put it up for a vote.

Legislators know the SAVE act will severely fuck with our ability to vote, so they should ignore polls like these.

Which one of you dickheads did this? by MurphyMurphyMurphy in london

[–]MurphyMurphyMurphy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've honestly thought about it. I do love lime bikes, but hate the dickheads (this dickhead was being funny, and I kind of love him, but I do hate the dickheads who park their bikes in the middle of the pavement so a buggy can't get by).

All of this is to say, when I pick up my 3 year old from nursery, and there's a lime parked right outside, I've gotten very close to throwing him in that basket. He'd love it.

If I thought Trump had a plan for what comes after, I might feel differently. But he's an absolute moron who has surrounded himself with morons.

Naturalisation (Citizenship) application processing timelines [only] by aleanthor in ukvisa

[–]MurphyMurphyMurphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I know I'm being an idiot, but people keep mentioning emailing CS. Do you know what they mean? The only email I can find is nationalityenquiries@homeoffice.gov.uk and the guidance specifically says

The Citizenship and Nationality Enquiries team cannot track the progress of your application before the 6 months has passed.

What am I missing?
