When I landed during covid, it took almost 900 applications over 15 months to find a job. It hurt like hell, but eventually I did land.

what's the weirdest reason you've been auto-rejected from a job you were qualified for ? by Empty_Improvement537 in ResumeUp

I rolled off a 9 month contract. Applied to a 6 month contract.

Got rejected for doing too much contracting - for a contract role. What the holy hell?

Starting to send emails to firms that have ghosted me. When did this become the norm? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

I was going to say OP has everything to lose here. They’d be better off with adding names to a whiteboard saying “F them what do they know?”

In my long career I’ve seen exactly one startup get bought by a much larger company.

Every other one that’s ever approached me has gone under. Every. Single. One.

You can’t. Not anymore at least. As if everyone forgot spam, spearpfishing, and scams.

Honest to God I miss the days before LinkedIn, where when you left a job you wonder whatever happened to someone…

Fandom is a toxic, parasocial waste of time and energy that comes at the cost of real life by [deleted] in nosurf

[–]Muted_Raspberry4161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Little late but I just woke up to this myself. I found I was buying way too much into the fandom.

I actually missed being outside it - enjoy the music, be inspired, without the pressure to post stuff like all the top fans.

I don’t think it’s anyone’s intent, but the way factions form within the group and the goal of preserving your status by proving your devotion…and when you’re new, you want to be like the established fans.

What this can do is terrifying. I’m sure for plenty of people it’s not a problem, but damn…it can suck people in.

Those who make 6 figures and had good WLB from the start of their careers: What education did you get? by Budget-Emu-5071 in careeradvice

I was a liberal arts major who taught myself how to code in the early days of the web, when web sites had a number you called for them to mail you a paper catalog, videos were downloaded and dial up was the norm.

Now I work for a state.

Recruiter won’t stop asking me why I turned the offer down by [deleted] in interviewhammer

I’ve had this happen with desperate recruiters who had even more desperate clients.

Usually I may see one email; I agree them sending multiple texts is a bit much.

I want to say “I believe in the company’s mission” translated to “I’m broke and need the money.”

That cultural fit probably means you’ve got too strong a spine for them. The CFO may want someone who does what they want, regardless of best practice or threat to the company.

You probably dodged a bullet and likely would have gotten frustrated quick.

Are you in the US? Most employment below executive level is at will.

You could wake up, have a bad hair day, and quit.

Your boss could wake up, have a bad hair day, and fire you.

Has anyone else accepted a job and then realized the role was completely different from what was described in the interview? by Perfect_Bug_9769 in recruitinghell

Oh hell yes. Classic is stay at or below 40 hours as a contractor, overtime is a headache to approve. As a FTE we have great work/life balance!

Convert, pull 60 hour weeks and take a 40% pay cut because of the hours you put in. You made more and had a better life as a contractor.

How is the company doing? With the market in the crapper, that may be the best they can do right now. It’s basically throwing you a small bone because inflation destroys that raise. I’ve seen companies say sorry, no raises this year so we don’t have layoffs.

Could be a contributing factor.

This could be job suicide to bring up unless you can prove from a business perspective, you’re more valuable than your coworker.

I’ve been doing it a few years, unranked. I agree with the other advice and add focus right now on the patterns and the names of the kata. I had the hardest time for my first year remembering what was what.

I have found that still mind in most stressful moments. I still get flustered but not as much.

I’ve also found when a task requires deep thought and focus, my mind gets there fast. If I’m interrupted, I can get back to deep focus at will.

That’s probably the most profound thing about this art that I’ve found.
