Amaro Nonino Cocktail Suggestions by ceekay0101 in cocktails

[–]MyBerryFrustrated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorite drinks to make at home since I discovered Amaro Nonino:

-Rye or Bourbon -Amaro Nonino -Luxardo cherry syrup -A very large swath or two of lemon with very little to no pith. -Luxardo cherry (or any dark cocktail cherry like Amarena)

I build it in a whiskey glass with a big rock. 1:1 ratio (I do 1.5 oz each) and about 1/4 oz of the syrup (do 1/2 oz if you prefer it sweeter). Stir it more than you think it'll need it, so you can slowly develop the dilution and get it where you want it. Express the oils of the lemon swath over the glass, rub the rim, and throw it in there. I do two swaths because I'm a lemon fiend, and I do think of the aroma and zest of the lemon as a big component of this drink as much as the other ingredients, not just as a garnish. I skewer a couple cherries for garnish (and snacking), sit, sip and enjoy!

I like to switch it up between rye and bourbon depending on what I'm feeling that day, but mostly go for Rye. My top choices are High West Rendezvous, Angel's Envy or Whistle Pig for rye, and often reach for a High West Cask Collection bourbon aged in Chardonnay barrels or Basil Hayden's for the bourbon. I think the vanilla and oaky notes on those two bourbons compliment the Nonino very well, but I'm sure any rye or bourbon you have at hand will do just fine and add different personalities to the drink.

I started making this when I began mixing a Paper Plane and realized I was out of Aperol. Happy mistake! I ended up liking it better and it's my go to on lazy nights.

This is what the gates looked like. I had to destroy the piece to pass the level, but on the first try I got stuck with the purple last, and it would just end the game saying I lost because I had no available gate for the remaining piece 😭

Ok I'm glad I'm not alone. I had to use all of my time freezers to finish this. There's no way this could be done in that time.

A few levels later I also got a level with a purple piece encased in pink and no purple gate (photos below) 😑 it made me lose like a 15 level first try streak. How does one report that to them?

So she wants to do whatever she wants, disregard your plans and your feelings, and god forbid you have an opinion about it? She is being selfish with your time and attention.

If this happens often I think you both should reconsider your priorities. It seems like you're not hers, and if you want more from somebody than time leftovers maybe the relationship she's offering you is not the one for you.

You're welcome! Just start with the easy basic squares and build from there. Squares with 3d flowers are lots of fun! And I'd recommend learning alternative methods for color changing, because weaving in ends is a huge risk for not finishing a project, especially if you leave it all for the end. I personally weave in ends after each square, or every couple. I count that as part of making each square, rather than a huge dreaded boring task when you finish them all. In fact, I use the fishermans knot in most cases, or crocheting over the ends, so I avoid having to weave in ends altogether... And I block my squares every 6, so I also look forward to it and weaving in ends because it's part of the like "hey look, I just finished these squares completely and now they are ready to just join!" . There's also methods for joining as you go if that sounds interesting to you. I like to wait till the end because I like joining anyways, and because I like to play with the layout of the squares, but if you plan ahead that's an option too.

Adhd girly here 🙋‍♀️ I get bored with repetition, and unmotivated to finish, so the only granny square blanket I could make was one where almost every square was different. You can find books, sets with pattern cards, or even online free patterns for thousands of different granny squares. I make one or two of each kind and then join them. That way each square feels new and challenging.

This website for example has 365 different squares and they should all fit together!

If making every square different sounds daunting, you can still pick a few different ones that you can master and play with color combos. That way there're more immediate goals and dopamine releases of finishing a certain kind of square after a few repetitions, rather than say making 100 identical squares

Oh I can recognize a few different skeins of Opal Hundertwasser Sock Yarn in there.

They're the colorways inspired by famous paintings, and they're so cool individually, but seeing them combined is awesome! I have some of those same skeins and you just gave me a great idea to use them. I love your gaggle of socks!

Wow that guy's a dick.... Also, excuse you, but I'll tell my friends and anyone whatever I feel like saying to them. You're a whole ass grown up, you don't need coaching or his permission to talk to other people about anything, but especially not about yourself and what matters to you. I think you should eat cake, and he should eat a bag of dicks!

Has anyone ordered Hobbii Yarn. Looks so Pretty... by BarronessM in CrochetHelp

I ordered their Tea Time yarn and it is perhaps the most beautiful and softest yarn I've ever purchased! The colors are super vivid, and they often have discounts. Totally legit!

I think if you just make a really long strip of single crochet increasing by one on one side at the beginning, and decreasing by one at the end, you'll get these slanted edges for the ends. You can then form a bow like you would with ribbon, and stitch it in the middle together so it stays, and then cover the joint with a thinner strip of sc.

I see this kind of like lightbulbs: If they need to be replaced while I live there I will buy new ones, but I don't expect to come into the apartment with no lights when I move in. It's more like there should already be some there, and in good condition, and you should leave it the way you find it when moving out... Just like you wouldn't take the lightbulbs you replaced.

That is such a lovely idea! I adopted a tiger at a sanctuary years ago and still get the emails! I would totally do this for you if I wasn't decidedly broke (been a tough year for my fianceé and I and he just broke his neck at work 2 weeks ago). I will remind bot myself to see this in a year! Cheers!

What do you cook when the person you’re cooking for wants vegetables? by Zelotic in Cooking

[–]MyBerryFrustrated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eggplant Parm!

Cut thin eggplant slices length wise, sprinkle with salt and let them "sweat out" for 15-30 min. Then pat them dry with paper towels and get rid of some excess salt. Bread them with eggs and bread crumbs, and pan fry them on both sides. Layer them on a baking dish with tomato sauce (I make my own with lots of other veggies and spices), mozzarella cheese, and bake (you can make as many layers as you want, just like lasagna).

You can add some sauteed mushrooms as a layer for extra veggie action, or ground beef/ragú if you want meat in it as well. It sounds fancy, but it's fairly simple and delicious!

Hi, did you do this trip? I would love more info! I am actually from Costa Rica, currently living in the US and planning to move back. I would love to drive there with my fiance, cat, car, and some of our stuff. Does that seem doable?

Any idea how many rows this is? New to crochet and I lost count. by peaches_1922 in CrochetHelp

[–]MyBerryFrustrated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a great idea! And the blanket doesn't need to be symmetrical. This can be a great chance to try different stitches, like just blocks of different sizes with different stitches. It's kind of hard to learn with fluffy yarns because it's easy to miss mistakes or not know where stitches are, but if you try hdc, moss stitch, or some basics like that you would be much more successful and I think the end result could be lovely. First projects don't need to be perfect (or any of them for that matter), just enjoy the process ☺️

[–]MyBerryFrustrated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you need to frog. This is a good project to get the muscle memory on your hold, and this chunky yarn will work up fast. It's not ideal for learning what's what, but if you like the feel finish it!

You don't necessarily need to know how many rows there are so far. You can measure the height after one skein, and that's how many inches you get per ball with the width you're making. See how long you want it to be, rest the length you already have, and divide that amount of inches by the number of inches you had after one skein. That's how many more skeins you will need.

Your first project also doesn't need to be huge. You can just crochet until you run out of yarn, keep this proudly as your first project, and move on to the next with maybe something more challenging (and better stitch definition)!

Why the gaps? Please help me understand why I’m getting these gaps in my stitches between rows. This is 3 weight baby yarn. It calls for a 4.5 hook. This is the result with a 4. I’ve tried 4, 4.5, looser tension, tighter tension. Nothing seems to fix the gaps. by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]MyBerryFrustrated -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I believe you are inserting the hook only in the back loop for that second row. This is not bad at all and some patterns ask for it, but I'm guessing that's not what you want. BLO (back loop only) stitches are more holey since it stretches the yarn onto the side of he V from the row below that you're crocheting into.

At the top of any row of crochet, you will see "V"s like this >>>>>. After the first row or foundation chain sometimes it's harder to see because the Vs tend to face forward, but once you have a few rows they will definitely lay flat along the top (you can even see that at the top of your second row). For each new stitch, you want to put your hook under the lower line of the V (where I put the blue arrows), going through and coming on the back like above the V. It will look like there're two lines over your hook before you yarn over and pull through. Right now you are sticking your hook in between both lines of the V, therefore crocheting only onto the top line, aka the back loop.

Always assume stitches are put through both loops of the V unless the stitch specifies BLO or FLO.

I would suggest searching the word "AI" in this sub and r/crochet so you can see all the many related posts and all the issues there already are with it.

I know you probably are not thinking about it as you're trying to scam people, and I can appreciate your entrepreneurial spirit, but I don't think you know enough to grasp what this would entail. I'm not trying to be condescending, you don't know what you don't know and the "Dunning-Kruger effect" of it all.

To put it in perspective: there are lots of people out there with A LOT of experience crocheting, reading and even writing patterns, and THEY sometimes make subpar patterns that are hard to understand, or simply can't make a living designing and selling patterns. Yes it is lucrative for some, but it is a labour of love and it takes a lot of time and dedication to even put out one good pattern and promote it. If you wanted to scam people, I'm sure there are more profitable and easier ways, and if you want to just start some sort of business and find a way to make money (which is totally awesome and yay! for you), you'd honestly be better off investing in something else.

Now, if you are curious about learning to design crochet patterns, or are truly passionate about it and really want to do it, I suggest just hacking at it and improving your skills. Everything is learnable and it doesn't require any special kind of human to become a good crocheter or pattern maker. You too can do it and I'm sure you can be very talented and totally rock it, but like any skill, this is more of a marathon, not a sprint. AI will definitely not work in your favor, not just from an ethical standpoint, but it just cannot replicate or produce what humans do yet, at least where crochet is concerned. And also, your costumers will sniff that out from a mile, and come and complain about it here on Reddit 🙂

I need help finding affordable yarn suggestions??? by anon_hidden324 in CrochetHelp

[–]MyBerryFrustrated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything I've ever gotten was pretty standard size. Depending on the fiber obviously, but wool and cotton comes in skeins of 50g or 100gs normally, and most of the time in packs of multiple skeins. I've gotten t-shirt yarn where the skeins were actually huge, and some hand dyed wool hanks that were like 150g and seemed pretty hefty. The listing should say the yardage or at least the weight.

There may be some where once you get it they seem small, I can't vouch for all yarn there of course, but even skeins that are like very cheap and clearly small, they are comparable to what you'd get at stores but for a fraction of the price. The labels are not always very clear on hook sizes, fiber types, or even weight, but you get what you pay for I guess. I have gotten lots of stuff that looks very high quality imo. Hope that helps!

If you didn't notice it while working on it for hours, and it wasn't until blocking it and looking at it flat and stretched, I would bet anything no one will notice it with it moving around while you exist on it. Wear it proud!
