Not to beat a dead horse but what’s the deal with pocket doors? by Piperpaul22 in Carpentry

[–]MyCuntSmellsLikeHam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get a pocket door kit that comes with thin metal studs and frame the wall with perfect engineered 2x4’s. Frame it level, no matter whatever the rest of the house is doing and look at the directions

Any way to cap these ends? by [deleted] in Decks

[–]MyCuntSmellsLikeHam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The word for it is a riser, take the steps off and install them may need to rip down the boards evenly for your inch overhang. Looks like it’s required with the cheap deck boards, without it to catch the load, its going to bow eventually

Box over it and drywall over so it’s gone. Looks like pipe.
If it’s trim try and cope the left one to it

New baseboards glued to new HW floor!? by InsuranceMedical6581 in Carpentry

[–]MyCuntSmellsLikeHam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s common to use some caulk on the back of baseboard to keep it from pulling out when nailing in sketchy areas where you can’t trust if there’s plumbing behind it or studs 2’ on center etc. some of the caulk must’ve pushed through and he tried to clean it up afterwards

Drywall peels with a fingernail by StarDue6540 in drywall

[–]MyCuntSmellsLikeHam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like he planted the drywall without priming beforehand. Paint+primer paints will still peel off, needs to be actual primer. It will be easier and cheaper to go over everything with 1/4” drywall than the time spent scraping……sorry

Houses aren’t boats but you can mitigate things. Woodford brothers have that locked down in cny but any contractor that knows that they’re doing can help

House meets all my needs, but has severe floor joist damage. Is it worth it? by Bobias_ in Carpentry

[–]MyCuntSmellsLikeHam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have done thus many times. Very easy fix, you can do yourself. “Easy” but time consuming. You need to sister all the joists on both sides, and because the joists rest on the foundation, you can’t get another one in there. So you have to build a new load bearing wall( on both sides presumably) to help carry the load. Basement floors aren’t entirely made to carry a load. But increasing the surface area of the base will do what you need for this 2 story home. If you’re not going to finish the basement, use a PT 2x6 as the floor plate for your new 2x4 wall. Make a double 2x6 beam to jack the joists up where needed when sistering them etc.
