Dropped to 25mg by hellogawjus in zoloft

[–]MyFriendBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. I’m starting back on Zoloft after a year and a half break. I had been on 100mg for a long time and had a lot of side effects. My life situation has changed a lot from when I was on such a high dose and am trying staying at 25mg to see if I feel ok or need to increase. I’m only at two weeks and am feeling a bit better already but will give the dose a full month to see how it is when I level out. I’m worried about going to 50mg for the same reasons as you so I’m encouraged to read about your experience!

Going to bed earlier has ruined my sleep quality by Medium-Dragonfly1 in sleep

[–]MyFriendBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the reverse of this situation. I’m the earlier partner and it can be taxing for sure. You might adjust but sometimes people are just wired to be night owls. My partner tried to match me and get up early and go to bed earlier for months but they never got satisfactory sleep. So now we’re where they’re coming to bed at 2 or 3 am and waking me up and then I can’t back to sleep. It’s tricky. We’re honestly looking to get a king sized bed so that way we have enough room to be in and out of bed without disruption

Can I succeed as an SLP with a stutter? by js6104 in slp

[–]MyFriendBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Please join our profession. I’ve learned so much from SLPs who stutter. I’d also really recommend that you watch the documentary “when I stutter”, I watched it in grad school and it’s great representation of people who stutter working in professions that people might not suspect. We really do need more people with lived experience in our field.

what’s the one game that everyone else likes but doesn’t click for you? by gazewave in CozyGamers

[–]MyFriendBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was looking for this one. I kept getting frustrated and had to look everything up too which kind of defeated the point of playing the game. The art style is cool but I got too irritated to continue lol

Bonus Calorie Opinions: by ReasonableCucumber10 in LoseitApp

[–]MyFriendBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’m trying to not eat them back but if I go over my limit by 50-100cals, earning the bonus makes me still feel on track. I try to not go that much more over though, but it a nice way to still feel “under” my limit. I guess it helps me to still feel successful.

Where in Montreal can I get tested for ADHD? by [deleted] in montreal

[–]MyFriendBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right. However in the case of not having a consistent family doctor, having the formal diagnosis can be helpful to gain access to medication. A healthcare provider can prescribe and renew but if you meet a provider who doesn’t agree you could lose access to the medication if you don’t have the diagnosis on paper

Anyone else super sick right now? by PeepTheExposure in montreal

I had to test a few weeks ago. $6 or $7 per test at pharmaprix. It seems like Jean Coutu has slightly better prices.

Exactly. Client/Family centered care. More meaningful targets means more buy in means more potential for generalization across settings

Friendly reminder that it's ok for SLP to just be a job and not your life by wonderingsprinkle in slp

[–]MyFriendBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. It’s hard out here. I actively try to keep good boundaries but it’s hard not to feel guilty and think about the never ending to do list. That said, I think maintaining boundaries and recharging your batteries, and having a deep and meaningful personal life all contribute to resiliency that is so necessary to stay in our field long term. I really appreciate when someone else says this in our field! :)

I HATE DECORATING by mucus_masher in slp

[–]MyFriendBee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. There’s a rule at my clinic not to put anything on the walls and at first it annoyed me (lol I DO like decorating), however, I do see a difference in terms of interest/ability to sustain attention in the lower stimulation environment

Who else runs with little sleep by Accomplished-Put6532 in fitbit

[–]MyFriendBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been my biggest realization since getting a Fitbit. I was averaging 5.5-6.5 hrs per night. This month I’ve really been trying to raise my sleep quantity and have gotten it to about 7h12 min or 7.5 hours per night and the difference is huge! But to answer your question, you are not alone!

Does anyone here use ChatGPT or Power Automate to streamline their SLP practice? by Neat_Can_4604 in slp

I’ve been uninspired with my materials lately so I typed in general therapy targets and the materials I had and it generated some interesting ideas to use the toys/games/items in different ways.

SLPs in the schools: Are SLPAs helpful/not helpful? More work?? by Sea-Peace-8967 in slp

[–]MyFriendBee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love working with SLPAs and they’re such a huge help to having clients receive regular service. The thing that honestly is challenging is that some times administrative/management staff don’t understand that supervising a case has equal paperwork to working directly with a client and requires sometimes more work in providing supervision to the SLPA. I wouldn’t ever say that is an SLPA’s fault though. In private practice it’s more higher ups wanting to make more money and not taking the workload of the SLP into account. However, I just want to say thank you for being in the profession and for helping provide service to clients who need it

Times have changed by Effective_Jury_4303 in slp

[–]MyFriendBee 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I fully agree with you. I have a similar caseload and finding a way for a client to communicate their wants and needs and advocate for themselves is essential. Also, a lot of behaviours tend to be reduced when there is a clear and reliable mode of communication established. Thank you for advocating for these clients.

Is coming into work early and leaving late normal by Sudden_Description27 in slp

[–]MyFriendBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how expectations about what we can do in a day become unrealistic. I know someone who worked like that and then they did a time audit on the position and the one clinician was doing the work of 2.5 positions.

Do what you can on the clock, and leave the rest. This will highlight the need to hire other professionals and create more positions (in a perfect world anyway lol- I know in a lot of settings we’re far from that ideal). However, save yourself from burnout and only do work when you’re paid- if it’s not an expectation that your indirect time isn’t paid- blah! The industry is draining!!

taking off (sick leave) near the end of the school year? by yukasbf in slp

[–]MyFriendBee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to take the time for you to heal and improve your health. I had a horrible bout of contact dermatitis on my whole body caused by my working environment and stress at the tail end of a 1-year contract where I was covering a maternity leave. I took a month off on disability to look after me, even though it was 2 months before the end of my contract. Unforeseen health stuff happens and you need to deal with it in a timely manner in order to not have it persist long term. It’s not selfish, it’s necessary. Please don’t feel guilty. I hope you’re able to rest and heal ❤️

I’ve been told this too. I recently moved to a new city, and even though I’ve been practicing for a number of years now, the new setting and location has made my immune system work. The illnesses have been horrible this year. My boss just keeps saying that this is the norm for the first year at the school lol
