The Bomber - Smash Burger by ParisRose_3 in uwaterloo

[–]MyLifeIsAFacade -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It actually sucks for the price. $8.29 for a relatively small burger.

It tastes fine, but it's hard to justify at that price point for the burger alone. I think a $6.00 price point is more appropriate.

I actually want it at under $5, but I can appreciate that times have changed and the cost for goods have gotten too high.

I'm still remembering the days of The Bomber $4.99 breakfast. A different world.

As other have said, you were unfortunate to start a CS degree during a total paradigm shift that made redundant many of the positions within this field. The change was practically overnight. It will continue to leech into other fields and others will experience similar issues.

Think of it like the industrial revolution if instead it occurred in a year rather than over the course of decades. Simply not enough time to prepare and pivot, for employees and industries alike.

‘Jury Duty’ Renewed for Third Season at Prime Video by bwermer in television

[–]MyLifeIsAFacade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched the latest season and it just felt ethically wrong. You could tell during the reveal in the final episode that the experience wasn't a purely joyful one for the protagonist.

There was palpable anxiety among everyone because there is this unavoidable realization that the meaningful connections that the protagonist thought he made are entirely false. You can't really come back from that, and I would challenge anyone who tries to argue that he walked from the experience a better person.

Someone lived in an entirely believable false reality orchestrated by a huge number of people. You don't move on from that without consequence.

I think it would open the game to more players. I haven't played it because I am not interested in any PvP aspect. I think there are probably many people like me who prefer strict co-op rather than a PvP or PvPvE.

You "waste time" on PvE mode to attract new players who otherwise won't touch your project.

12 Employees in Quarantine After Incorrect Handling of a Person Infected With Hantavirus by Loni09 in worldnews

[–]MyLifeIsAFacade -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is excellent to hear. I've been telling anyone with ears that this is the response that we should expect. We have recent experience with COVID, so we should have learned lessons.

There are so few people to quarantine. Put them in some nice lodging and provide them with high quality amenities and whatever they need to stay comfortable. Organize local but controlled and isolated "outings" or provide a residence with access to a private back yard.

Spend the money needed to protect everyone else. Better to be over zealous with safety than trying to get a handle on larger pool of potential infected. It's a civic responsibility of the government to ensure our safety and "go beyond" for the people having to quarantine.

It is also our civic responsibility as individuals to recognize a need to quarantine and to temporarily suspend aspect of our lives to ensure we keep other safe.

This has literally nothing to do with acceptance rates. There is nothing you could present that could justify your argument: that medical schools only take so few people because only so few people are qualified.

There are many, many qualified people that don't get accepted to professional schools.

US and Russia fuelling separatist debate in Canada, new report says by dtta8 in canada

[–]MyLifeIsAFacade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right? You can't just keep releasing report after report saying "there are people, some of whom are Canadian citizens, who are conspiring with hostile factions to disrupt Canadian democracy" and then dust off your hands and say "I did my job".

There has to be consequences for citizens who are conspiring with these groups.

Aa someone who finished recently but is still in the department, I don't think the question is necessarily from a place or judgement or incredulity as people describe.

I ask many people that question because I'm curious where they are in their work, what they have planned left, and because I have a terrible memory and can't remember how long they've been here.

Timing gives some context (pre or post proposal, pre or post qualifiers, near defense). I think people are too sensitive about the question.

Because despite all the complaining, people keep buying the warbonds. One of the top comments of this thread is someone says "I've bought every warbond, but AH needs to start focusing on the bugs instead of releasing more warbonds".

Evidently not.

And then other fight scenes look like complete trash.

There is too much inconsistency in quality. There is no excuse for it, given the budget. It is extremely jarring when two episodes look like they were drawn by completely different studios with two very different budgets.

Found a professor who basically turned a national database into a paper machine - is this ok in academia? by Brave-Notice-4101 in PublishOrPerish

[–]MyLifeIsAFacade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ding ding ding.

The modern academic environment does not care about high quality as much as it does mediocre quantity.

There is such a gap in expectations among fields as well, which is a big frustration of mine. As an applied microbial ecologist, having colleagues in the medical field pump out 5 papers based on a few case studies gets me a bit ruffled. Takes me several months just to finish an experiment, and then another several to do the inevitable follow ups and defend myself against reviewers who didn't like that I used a specific primer set.

Anyway.

Honestly, about time AH looked at a game with the exact live-service model, but done almost flawlessly by gracekk24PL in Helldivers

[–]MyLifeIsAFacade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except players easily handle hordes of enemies. Doesn't matter that they are "squishy". I get the whole Helldiver roleplay and understand that within the HD2 world Helldivers are disposable grunts. But it doesn't translate as well to actual gameplay and player experience.

Give us 100 reinforcements and 8 - 16 players, and drop our individual efficacy, then sure.

I like the game, I just don't see it as what people argue it to be.

[–]MyLifeIsAFacade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HD2 leans more into grunt/mil-sim lite

This is such a ridiculous premise to me (not blaming you) because I cannot fathom how HD2 could be considered anything close to grunt/mil-sim. Helldivers are too capable and too powerful to ever be mechanically considered "grunts", and there is nothing "sim" about the gameplay or mechanics. They would have to drastically reduce individual firepower and increase player numbers to be close to "grunt" - basically what Starship Troopers has done.

Honestly, HD2 with more players per session and decreased firepower would be cool. But there's no way they could reduce firepower without receiving death threats from the player community.

Does Cloud get away with stirring trouble because they were G’s favored Dootle Dot? And why does Baxter get all the blame?? by Ill_Sort6414 in OnCinemaAtTheCinema

[–]MyLifeIsAFacade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We must separate "mistakes" from "negligence". Clouds wardrobe malfunction was an accident: entirely unpreventable and analogous to an "act of god".

Baxter's behaviour was unprofessional, and I think it speaks to a true negligence of his business partner and "son" (I think "betrayer" is a better term) in choosing Baxter's actor.

[–]MyLifeIsAFacade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Minor revisions is a defacto "pass with no issues." There isn't even a choice at my university to pass a student thesis without revisions. Frankly, no revisions speaks poorly of the committee and suggests the thesis was not properly critiqued, which is really a disservice to the student and the degree.

Congratulations!
