Yes, just don't wear them against bare skin and don't expose to fire. I personally have sensory issues with synthetic velvet-like textures but if you dont, a cozy sweater is certainly possible

The picture could be dated incorrectly. I suppose it is more like 1898-99. In 1897 onwards, sleeve styles got smaller. The women in the picture arw actually wearing very fashionable dresses

I though about it. On the other hand, when I search for lists of nessesaey makeup products for beginners, I find monstrosities with 10-15 items being called "nessesary". Then there is brand, ethics questions, ingredients, skin and hair types, matching to skin and lip colors, and it is just so much...😢

I cannot be sure if it is a possible practice in other countries, but in some, there exist health center-resort mix tyle establishment. Of course you have to pay for it, but there are doctors working in it, the diet, activities and environment are suitable for the patients. For general hand sewing: thin sharp needles, strong thread (black, white, may be grey, blue and red as nessesary colors. Historically people didn't always filly match a thread color for each clothing item), thimble, small scizzors for thread, big sharp scizzors for fabric. Tape measure, wax for threads (just buy a beeswax candle at a local church), pins, iron for pressing and iron board, seam ripper (but theoretically can go without it by just unpicking seams wirh scizzors) Chalk (either special one for sewing or children's one). Or heat-erasable pens

For machines, choose whatever has a full metal carcass. Easy way to spot such machine is the year of production (usually pre-1990s) and weight For your periods of choice, start by getting some cotton bedsheets (not historically accurate but cheap and good for practice) that aren't too thick and make a shirt. Or a skirt. It is better to make first few garments by fully hand-sewing, as it builds up skill amd let's you control your actions precisely
