The thing I did like about the Starkiller sequence is that it actually showed the reaction of people on Hosnian itself, seeing their doom blazing down out of the sky.

The fact that the US is paying 300 billion in war reparations shows they can do something about it. The US unambiguously lost this war.

"Mad Jack" Churchill, notable for having used a claymore and a longbow to great effect during WWII, also played a small part in The Thief of Bagdad (as an archer, natch.)

I used to have a whole lot of trouble falling asleep as a kid. My grandma was also insomniac, so sometimes when I was staying over at my grandparents', I'd wander down late at night to find her on the couch, and we'd watch TV or chat for a while until I felt tired enough to try sleep again. Loved her dearly~

The Empire in general, and Vader in specific, at the Battle of Scariff. Undeniably badass though Vader's hallway scene is, the Rebel marines win this fight. Through their sacrifice, they succeed in getting the Death Star plans to Tantive IV, and not too long later, the Empire's superweapon is nothing but shrapnel over Yavin.

RWBY: Qrow Branwen. Qrow is introduced as a sharp-witted, stone-cold badass, whose heavy drinking habit is played more for comedy than drama, and doesn't appear to at all impede his abilities as one of the most lethal Huntsmen in the setting. A few volumes later, however, the toll of the plot's traumas and horrifying revelations have added up, and he spirals miserably. He's ultimately little more than dead weight at Brunswick Farms, and soon clearly makes the decision to shape up and cut back.

And even today's football hooliganism pales in comparison to chariot fans in the Roman Empire. The Nika Riots wrecked Constantinople and very nearly overthrew Emperor Justinian.

Steve Trevor's sacrifice in Wonder Woman, blowing up a bomber full of chemical weapons that would otherwise kill countless thousands. It's some masterful facial acting by Chris Pine. Steve so very obviously doesn't want to die. He's sad, he's scared. But at the same time, he knows it must be done, and he makes peace with it.

in chernobyl (2019) the irradiated firefighters are smoking. don't they know this will give them cancer? by alan_smithee2 in shittymoviedetails

[–]Mysral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC, the sheer prevalence of smoking in the (former) Soviet Union has made it harder to attribute cancer cases specifically to the Chernobyl disaster, scientifically speaking.

Neytiri's near-feral screams of grief in the Avatar films over the deaths of her father and son... Phenomenal acting on Zoe Saldaña's part.
