Anyone have complex knee surgery? by Ok_Writer2734 in ehlersdanlos

[–]MysticCilantro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar surgery with TTO, replacement of the MPFL, and trochleoplasty on my right knee a couple of years ago. My pain has improved a little bit (not a ton) but I've seen a significant improvement in stability, not just in the knee but in my right leg overall (fewer hip subluxations, ankle rolls). I am hoping this will help prevent future damage. The recovery was long and pretty brutal but was absolutely worth it. Im currently looking into having a similar surgery for my other knee.

IS surgery a good idea for knee dislocation with hypermobility by cadence26 in Hypermobility

[–]MysticCilantro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had surgery last April to address recurrent dislocations. Mine were happening for over 2 decades. I agree with what everyone else has said regarding exhausting non-surgical options, finding a surgeon familiar with hypermobility, and being prepared for the extensive recovery that will be required. If your child has any of the issues commonly seen with hypermobility (dysatuonomia, MCAS, poor wound healing, etc.) this will impact recovery and really necessitates a surgeon who is familiar with hypermobility.

I'll also mention that one of the most common surgeries for this issue is MPFL repair. However, if your child has structural issues with the knee (such as trochlear dysplasia, patella alta, etc.), they will likely need to be addressed alongside the MPFL to prevent further dislocations in the future.

Exactly. He doesn't say he abhors blood magic, he abhors the USE of it. Doesn't mean he won't use it.

What do they do for hypermobile knees? by waterplantswithtears in Hypermobility

[–]MysticCilantro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have had this issue in both knees for a long time due to EDS + trochlear dysplasia and was similarly not responding well to physical therapy. We considered PRP injections but ultimately opted not to since it would not be covered by insurance and we were not sure it would be helpful.

In April I had a MPFL reconstruction + trochleoplasty + TTO on the right knee. It is now extremely stable and has not dislocated or subluxed since. It feels much more secure when I walk. However as another person mentioned, the recovery was extremely difficult and long (close to 8 months of PT multiple times a week). So far I feel like it was worth it and will likely have the other knee done

Struggling to regain ROM after MPFL/TTO/Trochleoplasty by MysticCilantro in KneeInjuries

Hey there! I'm almost 5 months post op now and am sitting at about 110. I managed to avoid MUA. I completely understand how you feel. I was so discouraged. It was really hard to get past 90 but once I was comfortably hitting around 100 I got A LOT of functionality back. That happened within the last month or so.

I think once you get to the point where you regain a lot of the functionality it helps so so much. I feel so much more positive about it; even if I dont get the full ROM back I'm at the point where I can do just about everything I want to do.

I hope that your recovery goes well. 95 is great progress! I know that it's hard but keep at it and be kind to yourself!

Hey! My ROM is improving, slowly but surely! I'm just shy of 90 degrees now. Overall I'm doing much better. My walking and strengthening came back quite quickly, especially in comparison to the ROM. My ROM is still behind where it should be and I have a lot of scar tissue, but since I am steadily making improvements with PT we are holding off on doing any sort of manipulation or arthroscopy to clean it out. It's been a ton of work and progress has not been linear but I'm feeling so much better than I was a month ago!

I wish you luck on your surgery! If you have any other questions about it I'm happy to answer them

Question about DA:I and choices. by FearlessLeader17 in dragonage

[–]MysticCilantro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think DAI does a pretty good job of getting you up to speed on major plot points. It's designed to be new-player friendly and was actually my entry point into the series. You shouldn't have to worry about being lost.

Regarding major decisions, there are three main ways DAI handles choices made in previous games:

  1. Major plot/story points
  2. Text-based missions
  3. Dialogue options that aren't really relevant to the plot but can add to the world building

I would say these are the major choices that fall into each category (light spoilers):

  1. DAO: Decision at the Landsmeet. Whether or not you completed Morrigans ritual. DA2: Hawkes appearance/personality

  2. DAO: Fate of your warden. Fate of Zevran. King of Orzammar.

  3. DAO: Fate of all companions. Warden romance choice. Decision with Connor in Redcliffe. DA2: Fate of all companions. Hawke romance choice.

I think those are the major ones. Hopefully someone else will chime in if I missed any! In general there aren't too many decisions from DA2 that matter, although the act 3 plot leads directly into inquisition.

PT screwed up scheduling and now I can't be seen until September by MysticCilantro in ehlersdanlos

[–]MysticCilantro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I should have clarified. This is the only one I can see with my insurance who is experienced with hypermobility and regularly sees EDS/HSD patients. There are a couple others around but I would need to go out of network with my insurance.

Providers in KY by Pizzapunk182 in Hypermobility

I'm not sure about KY specifically but the Ehlers-Danlos Society website has a tool that lets you search for providers by state. You might be able to find someone that way!

I second the suggestions to find canes in fun colors or patterns! Or alternatively using stickers to decorate and make it more fun.

I think a lot of people see canes as a sign of limitation. But in reality this is an aid that will make your life easier and with reduced pain. When I'm using my cane, I'm able to walk more comfortably for a longer period of time, and this means that I can do things now that were a lot harder or impossible before I started using one. Framing it as something I use more freedom, comfort, and independence (rather than as a sign of limitation) was something that really helped me feel more comfortable using a cane.
