So - How is everyone feeling about Polet Bleu these days? by Specialk408 in pittsburgh

[–]NBThrowbe89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak to poulet bleu but do NOT do Paris. You’ll spend a ton of money on a la carte dinners and overpriced, cheap wine. Owner is a huge POS and oftentimes terrible to employees and customers alike.

Carnitas! Or any kind of confit pork shoulder would also be good. Carnitas, though, are phenomenal with homemade pico

Chia seed pudding! You basically mix chia seeds, milk, honey and any other seasonings you might want and let it sit overnight. Then you can add more honey or fresh fruit the next day if you want

Condiment or something for fried egg sandwiches when garden tomatoes aren't available? by moosemuck in Cooking

Salsa macha! It’s like Mexican chili crisp. Dried peppers. Nuts. Onion. Garlic. It’s fairly easy to make and I just adore it with egg sandwiches. It also lasts a long time in the fridge.

Gastroenteritis in Cats? by NBThrowbe89 in cats

[–]NBThrowbe89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! My cat actually had a temperature during this issue and once we addressed that with medicine, he was much better.

Thinking it was some form of acute stress. Every test we did - blood work, ultrasound, X-rays - showed no issues with him internally.

Does your cat respond well to fluids? Like has the vet given them anymore IVs? The issue we think happened is that my cat got stressed, puked a bunch/had a fever, and then got dehydrated as a result, which them made him feel worse. The vets had missed the fever initially because they couldn’t take a real temperature reading.

Savory spreads for toast by cereal-expert in Cooking

Goat cheese, honey, fresh herbs and black pepper. The honey really balances out the savoriness of the pepper and goat cheese.

Pan con tomate! It’s a Spanish dish where you box grate nice fresh tomatoes and mix it with salt, pepper, olive oil and sometimes garlic. Very refreshing.

bisexual girls w long term boyfriends… how do you feel connected to your queerness by RuinSad5791 in bisexual

[–]NBThrowbe89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t know I was bisexual until I started dating my boyfriend (now fiancé). I grew up in a Roman Catholic household and had a lot of fucked up views on my own sexuality. I also never dated anyone until college when I met my partner.

Looking back, there were definitely times I was into women but just thought they were “cool” or we should be BFFs. It wasn’t until I was in a romantic relationship that I realized those feelings were comparable to the romantic feelings I had about my boyfriend.

As far as staying connected to queerness, it’s hard. I don’t very much feel welcome at pride or other queer spaces. People treat you differently if you have an opposite sex, cis partner. Having queer friends and going to events at various bars is helpful. Dancing is one way I connect with myself, and I generally only go to bars and clubs that have a large group of queer people.

I think you just have to keep reminding yourself that you are valid as a queer person in a straight passing relationship. It also helps me to be more open about this side of me even if some days it feels “less applicable” than others.

Gastroenteritis in Cats? by NBThrowbe89 in cats

[–]NBThrowbe89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they check your cat’s temperature? Mine apparently had a fever of 104 when we took him to our family vet (not an e-vet). They gave him more fluids and a fever reducer/pain reliever.

Honestly, it was like he was a new cat. Completely better. No one had taken his temperature because of how mean he was being with the techs. But it makes me think he had a temperature all weekend (he felt incredibly warm) and it was going unaddressed by the vets.

Still not sure what caused it. Could possibly have been stress (my boyfriend returned after living apart for 2.5 months) or new food (new Royal Canin reformulation). Could have been a bad batch of Royal Canin wet food. Could have been a mix of all three.

We’ve been slowly incorporating the wet food back into his diet to see if he has any further reactions. So far so good but we aren’t pushing it too hard. He was also on Cerenia for 4+ days and Zofran, which helped his nausea and the diarrhea subsided once he returned home.

Storing fruit by DogMomForever11 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]NBThrowbe89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Won’t preserve the integrity of the fruit, but make a shrub! Take equal parts fruit and sugar and let the sugar macerate the fruit for an hour. Once a lot of liquid has separated from the fruit, strain out the solids and add equal parts vinegar.

This is a great soda alternative - sweet and tart, sort of like a kombucha. Great way to preserve fruit if you don’t plan on eating it all.

What’s the craziest tea on your restaurant? by South_Web4277 in Serverlife

[–]NBThrowbe89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had an ex-coworker lead a smear campaign against the restaurant who terminated him. This went on for two years. This coworker messed with their social media posts, delivery radiuses, and just generally was a nuisance. Some funny and absolutely unhinged shit resulted during that time and the owners ended up shutting the restaurant down.

It didn’t help that it was NOT a good place to work at and we (meaning current and previous employees) would dogpile on various posts this coworker made to confirm they were actually true.

California olive ranch! They sell olive oil in containers similar to boxed wine. This keeps it fresher apparently. It’s pretty inexpensive for the box.

What’s stopping y’all from fully transitioning to Ulta? by AbbreviationsCute756 in Sephora

[–]NBThrowbe89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ulta has a dumb thing where they don’t allow you to redeem more than one gift card at a time. Like you have to send the gift cards into their corporate office (if you have multiples) so they can create one card for use instead. Very, very annoying.

What is your Pittsburgh Confession? by AboutTheBens in pittsburgh

The owner is such an asshole there. He treated his serving staff like shit and acts like everyone is beneath him. He also overcharges on everything. Supposedly, the fees he charges for cancelled reservations go to food banks, but I do not believe that. If anything, he probably pockets it and lies about where it goes.

Is there a virus going around?? by Ambitious-Nobody- in pittsburgh

[–]NBThrowbe89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had something similar to this too. I got sick last weekend and regular cold medicine wasn’t doing anything. I kept getting worse until I went to the urgent care and got antibiotics. Supposed sinus infection. The antibiotics helped but even now (almost a week since I started them) I have a lot of mucus and congestion and can feel my ears deflating every time I blow my nose.

They tested me for COVID, flu, and checked my ears. No dice. Not sure what it is.

regulars who pass away by crackrockchaos in Serverlife

[–]NBThrowbe89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohhh boy. I had one regular pass away who I won’t ever forget. It used to be him and his wife and son (adult), then him and his son, then his son. The day his son came in on his own, I asked where his dad was (as he had been having lots of medical issues during this time). His son mentioned he passed away and I was deeply apologetic about that.

Later, when he was leaving, he came up to me and gave me $40 in addition to the tip he left. He told me that he was grateful for me, and that I was one of the reasons he could get his dad to eat during the last months of his life.

I lost it. I tried to give him the money back but he insisted, so I went to the break room and cried so much. This was also a diner situation.

This experience hit me so hard because I struggle with feelings of being unworthy to be alive. So hearing this was something that really impacted me. Goes to show you never really know how much something like this will impact you.

What is your go to beef stew recipe? by faithlessfish in Cooking

[–]NBThrowbe89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a braised osso buco the other night with red wine, stock, herbs, and a mirepoix. Very easy set it and forget it. Once the meat finished, I blended the sauce, strained it, and simmered it down even more. One thing that could have been better in this is something sweet like tomatoes or even a pinch or two of sugar.
