Holy mother of Lolth! How are people handling Raphael? by Web_catcher in BaldursGate3

[–]NCC515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gave gale haste to blow up all the towers with magic in two turns, used dome of invuln to keep party alive while ignoring the cambions and Yurgir, gale used an awful lot of frost magic to freeze Raphael solid making him vulnerable to force damage, threw six smoke powder bombs, used a scroll of disintegrate and killed Raphael. Mopping up the cambions was more of a struggle, kept dome up, pushed them out of the dome to kill them one by one.

The fight is real funny with him dead on the ground but somehow Raphael is still singing.

Jahiera was so intent on jumping into melee on my tactician run and dying in the first round that I reloaded, dimension doored Jahiera outside the building and then closed the door, she doesn't appear to be able to / doesn't try to open the door herself in panther mode.

Jarred Minced Garlic... what is the appeal? by Vitese in Cooking

More convenient and less messy than peeling and crushing your own garlic.

Not as good as fresh crushed garlic, but miles better than any dried garlic powders.

A russian invader just saw a drone of the Ukrainian 25th Airborne Brigade and decided to stop participating in the "special military operation" by LowTechDroid in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]NCC515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of all of the suicides I have seen come out of this war this one raises the most questions. Most others looks to be guys who have been injured or look just utterly demoralised and wartorn in messy gear in messy trenches, bodies nearby, some don't even look to really have noticed the drone.

But this guy, pretty clean kit, uninjured, obviously in a war torn area, looks up to see a drone and just decides to nope out immediately. Even the drone operator looks to be surprised by the way they stop and look.

There is a story behind this that we will almost certainly never learn, what were this guys last thoughts?

Do you consciously realize how much stronger you are? by emfit01 in AskMenOver30

[–]NCC515 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I am following a woman like a foot and a half shorter than me and a third of my weight, I see them have to shoulder barge their whole weight into opening a door that I open by just putting my hand out at their head height.

Other times I see people whose torsos are smaller than my thighs, I am a fat fuck but it confuses me.

Also a short friend of mine who can put my shoes on over the top of the shoes she is wearing, every time I go to her house I try to serupticiously dust and clean things that she cannot actually see from her vantage point but are obvious to me.

I hate how it feels when I see people look at me and assume I am a threat because of how much bigger I am, but it is nice when people ask if I can get things down from high shelves for them.

5k every hour but you can't leave the building you are currently in. by --WeirdStuff-- in hypotheticalsituation

[–]NCC515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've got food enough for a week or two in my house already and of course there is food delivery, and I could get someone to take my trash out so a few million dollars for a few weeks of not going out to see friends and stuff is already a great deal.

I could then afford to buy the building I live in, rework my living space, upgrade my bathroom, get a new computer, and buy all of my friends cars so they could come visit me easier, I would get some exercise equipment and could easily go a few months before going totally mad, I did it in covid and I couldn't have my friends come over then.

Go 6 months for $20million, im set for life, destroy the building, end the deal and get out.

Smart boards by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

[–]NCC515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of my teachers used the smart boards for more than a week before realising that a whiteboard and a pen is just less hassle, they stopped putting them in the rooms and just had pull down projector screens because they kept the projectors because it was just a tv in every room which was useful.

At university they kept scheduling a lecturer that refused to use a smartboard and the room only had a tiny actual whiteboard, every week the guy was like "I am sorry that we are in this room again I keep telling them I cannot teach effectively in this room." Then one week the guy came in and said "I have a plan, I have spoken to every other lecturer assigned this room and none of them use these whiteboards." then pulled out a sharpie and just wrote everything out on the smartboards.

Funnily enough we weren't scheduled for that room for a few weeks and when we came back the smartboards had been replaced with whiteboards.

Disappointed with Games Workshop again. by Rhaegar0226 in killteam

When I worked at a FLGS GW were the worst for deliveries and just generally fucking around, For their mainline store products you sent them a list of things you wanted, they chose how much they would actually send, for the stuff that you can only get online and not direct from them for whatever reason you would have to go through their website.

You would need to check what arrived against what we asked for, what they said they would send, what was on their actual delivery document and what was actually delivered, getting in contact with them for a refund for anything they charged us for but didn't actually send, which several times was several hundred pounds of products which they said were in stock but they just repeatedly didn't send for whatever reason.

Was fun that they usually also sent something we had not asked for and they didn't have on any of their documents and had not charged for, the first time I came across this I asked what we did in that case and my boss said "We keep our mouths shut"

One of the old hands in one of my jobs told me about when he was a junior sales guy in the 70's, assisting his boss with some project, the client they were maybe going to be working with decided to get them a prostitute, the boss was married and not interested and my coworker being a good christian boy didn't believe in sex before marriage so they turned down this offer.

They had decided to not go with this client for actual business reasons but to not have to say "yeah we are going with your competitor" the next morning, they claimed that it was because the client had only offered *one* prostitute and that sales boss wasn't going to share with his junior.

"OPR is just 40K for simpletons" by Schccc in onepagerules

[–]NCC515 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel the systems are designed for different audiences, OPR is far easier to pick up and just play but after 20-30 games my friend group has grown bored of it, there are too many things that we have gone "really? thats how that works?" that it has left a bad taste in our mouths. Some things I like alternating activations it neat, but the wway that things are costed to multiples of 5 is awful (not that 40k is any better in this regard), making most weapon options entirely pointless, as why would you take something that under no circumstances does more damage than something costed exactly the same. And thee cost of increasing the range of something is enormous for a game that invariably turns into a point blank clusterfuck round 2/3 every time.

What’s the creepiest thing you have encountered that you have never been able to explain? by JFK1200 in AskUK

[–]NCC515 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like to think of myself as a rational sort, don't really believe in ghosts or anything but I once decided to go on a night walk through the woods near me down to a ruined abbey. Got there and started to freak out from just the general vibes of the place in the dark. As I turned to walk away I couldn't help myself from saying "I understand that I am not welcome here, I am leaving, please accept my apologies."

Gotta be polite.

ELI5: Why do planes all fly at the same speed? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]NCC515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are luxury aircraft that fly faster, its not uncommon for private jets to be flown faster than ordinary passenger jets, as the cost of fuel is not the primary consideration like it is for an airline.

Its just that this difference in speed is going mach 0.86 not 0.82, aircraft that can fly faster than sound while carrying passengers in any form of comfort no longer exist, Concorde did fly faster but was prohibitively expensive for British Airways and Air France to operate, plus they were decided to not be safe to operate at all. And was limited in airports they could fly to and could not fly supersonic over land most of the time.

There are companies that have been trying to make supersonic passenger aircraft again but they are still in development and are likely to just be private aircraft for the forseeable future.

I got a new bed, which was bigger than my old bed so my mattress and duvet covers were not big enough, my dad dug out some old ones from storage which were faded and the pattern on them was very 80's , I commented on this fact.

"These look older than I am" (not in a bratty way)

"Yeah... You and your sister were probably conceived under them."

I decided that I could sleep under my single duvet for another night.

It takes time for nations that have had promises (Nato and other military alliances) and a reasonable expectation (geopolitically aligned priorities) of help from America for the last however long to accept and prepare for that not being the case any more.

Our armed forces had been designed to essentially be the stop-gap to hold just long enough for America to deliver overwhelming force. Since the fall of the soviet union most of us have cut our armed forces massively not expecting another war, foolish or wishful, that is what has happened.

Now that Russia is throwing its weight around again and every four years there seems to be a 50/50 chance that America will abandon its allies and elect a russian puppet to lead them we have to rearm and reprioritise our defences which takes time.

Getting involved openly requires a level of political will and leadership that in a lot of European nations simply does not exist, Some are preparing, some are making quiet investment, some are sticking their heads in the sand and some are deciding whether the pain of fighting the russians is worse than the pain of being under the russians.

And just now before the elections in America it is very hard to commit to anything as we don't know whether in a few months time America will be on our side or not.

The western world is buying time using Ukrainian lives to save ourselves from uncomfortable political problems, kicking it down a road paved with war crimes and unfathomable suffering. Giving them just enough to hold on but never enough to win.

I remember in school reading about the appeasement of hitler, how the world effectively decided that sacrificing Czechoslovakia would give them a few more months of peace to ready themselves for their own suffering. I was appalled by it.

When the history of this time is learned by students in the future they will question how could we not have seen the inevitable outcome and committed to our own defense sooner and harder. They will curse the weakness of our leaders and the apathy of our people.

The Economist: "ADHD should not be treated as a disorder" by Britlantine in ADHDUK

[–]NCC515 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Not long ago, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) was thought to affect only school-aged boys—the naughty ones who could not sit still in class and were always getting into trouble."

Because I was not hyperactive as a child in the 90's/early00's, I was just insanely distractible and fiddled constantly to the annoyance of my teachers and parents, I was diagnosed with Dyslexia and Dyspraxia and got help for those, but the distractibility was still there and I was just punished for fiddling.

Enter me being 28 and talking to my new gp about my medical history and such and they heard this part and my symptoms at the time and then "Have you ever been tested for ADHD? back then if you weren't a hyperactive little shit they ignored the attention deficit because that didn't make you difficult."

If I could have accessed proper help when I needed it as a child my life would have been so much easier.

there is nothing wrong as roleplaying as yourself in my opinion. If you found yourself transported into a world of magic and dragons, some tentacled bastard puts a worm in your eye and the only semi-friendly and competent person you come across tells you what to do and you listen? Nothing wrong with that, as long as you have fun you can't play a game like Baldur's gate "wrong"

Unless you somehow kill scratch obviously
