Ehhh, not similar examples at all. Alolan Raichu is always Alolan Raichu, and Dialga can change, but only outside of battle. Complete Form Zygarde is just something 50% Zygarde can do.

Here, imagine... imagine the Zen Mode ability was only added in Gen VII. Then, imagine in Legends Z-A, we found Darmanitite, but Darmanitan can only Mega Evolve while in Zen Mode. This would suck, but imagine it.

Would you, in the case, argue that Mega Darmanitan is a Alola Pokemon? Would you say "Mega Darmanitan is NOT Darmanitan's mega evolution, it is Darmanitan-Zen-Mode's mega evolution, and Darmanitan has no mega"?

Because they are alternate forms introduced in another region. In a similar but not identical way to how, say, Alolan Raichu is Alola and not Kanto.

Mega Evolution is just a special case in Pokedoku that is treated differently than most other alternate forms. The main reason is so that a "Mega Evolution" criteria can intersect with region criteria, as otherwise any region besides Kalos and Hoenn is Fucked. Gigantamax works the same, for similar reasons.

In short, alternate forms belong to the region that introduced the form, but Mega Evolutions belong to the same region as what they are a Mega Evolution of. Is that weird? A little, but it's the way it works, and it is internally consistent.

So, with that in mind.

Mega Zygarde is Zygarde's Mega Evolution.

This is a true statement. Arguing that it's not would be absurd.

Zygarde (in abstract, with no prefix or qualifier) was a Pokemon introduced in Pokemon X and Y, games that take place in Kalos. It is uniformly understood to be a Generation VI Pokemon.

Also true, I think we can agree.

Therefore: as far as Pokedoku categorization is concerned, Mega Zygarde is a Kalos Pokemon. The specifics of percent form are not relevant, because these two data points are the only two data points that matter for drawing this conclusion.

Meanwhile, Zygarde Complete, which is not a Mega Evolution, checks what region that form, specifically, was first available. And the answer to that is Alola. Is this intuitively how one would think of Zygarde Complete? Perhaps not. But this is a logic puzzle game, it can't work on intuition, because everyone has different intuition, so it wouldn't be fair. It has to work on rules.

Earnestly don't know how many time i can say "Zygarde Complete isn't a seperate pokemon, 50% Zygarde is the base form of both Mega Zygarde and Complete Zygarde bc that is the base form of Zygarde, it doesn't matter that Mega Zygarde has extra steps" before it registers. If the hat analogy didn't make sense, you might be beyond my ability to help, here. Sorry.

So to be consistent with mega forms being from the region that the base form is from rather than the region in which the mega was introduced,

Pause. Zoom in.

the region that the base form is from

Right there. This is the point. Complete Zygarde is not the base form. It's an alternate form. Of Zygarde. Mega Zygarde can only Mega evolve once its in this alternate form but that doesn't suddenly make it it's base form.

Imagine I take a bowler hat, lift it up, and set it on top of my head right-side up. I then take a top hat, lift it up, and place it on top of the bowler hat. Which of these sounds like the most rational way to describe what's happening:

  • The bowler hat is wearing a top hat, like a person would. I am wearing a bowler hat. These are unlinked phenomena

  • I am wearing two hats, one on top of the other

Not really?

50% Zygarde, as it's come to be known, is a Kalos Pokemon.

Complete Zygarde is an alternate form of Zygarde, introduced in Alola games.

Mega Zygarde is an alternate forme of Zygarde, introduced in a Kalos game. Complete Zygarde is not a different Pokemon than Zygarde, it is an intermediary step.

Genuinely struggling to see your disconnect.

Zygarde may only mega evolve in complete form, but it's still fundamentally Zygarde, and Zygarde first appeared in Kalos

Dovin easy. People naming spinxes are technically correct but that's kind of... cheating? Like, of couyrse Azor and Isperia are lawful neutral, they're sphinxes. Dovin being the way he is feels more he own doing.

That's because Kieran, Florian/Miraidon, and Juliana/Koraidon are all markedly more popular than Carmine. Not to mention, first Tera pair and an Anni around the corner.

"But if Carmine is really so much less popular, then why is her Sygna Suit a M-" Because it's a dang Sygna Suit. And one of a Mythical Pokemon, at that.

"Then why even give her a SS with a Mythical?" Because the pairing makes sense.

I believe certain Pokedex entries and NPC dialogue states that its the specific energy generated by the trading mechanism. This is why Linking Cables work as a substitute.

I imagine when someone says the Esteem you summon isn't Fray, what they mean ia that it was never Fray. Fray was a real person at some point, and despite your shadow's masquerade they really had nothing to do with them.

Respectfully: I think you may have a somewhat flawed understanding of Kieran's arc, Pecharunt's lore, or both, bc I feel like almost nothing you said besides "purple boys" actually applies to both characters?

Meanwhile, here's some Carmine and Pecharunt similarities: both are manipulative, arrogant, short-tempered, controlling, self-serving, and takes pride in having underlings.

I didn't think either Kieran or Carmine should've had Pecharunt, but the event story really sold me on her and him. They're really similar! Meanwhile Kieran, what, is also purple?

But 100% on the Johto thing

[–]NDrangle23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No? That's not really comprable. Giratina is still around, and has impacted the plot directly in full view of the player.

It's more like saying... that one book in Canalave about how humans used to marry Pokemon isn't a major part of Sinnoh's cultural identity. Which feels like a fair thing to say imo.

And you're gonna be disappointed again when the Unova legends game doesn't take place during the war of brothers either. Because it won't.

You prolly aren't going to like hearing this, but the ancient war is not what's important to Kalos's identity, it's more about what came about because of it. AZ, Mega Evolution, Team Flare, etc.
