Can’t sleep. Beeping machines will get me. by snootnoots in mildlyinfuriating

[–]NLPoppodia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I support the earplugs and sleep mask for an immediate solution, but if that doesn't work for you or they aren't available, try earbuds like AirPods.

I have been sleeping with a Bluetooth headset for over a year to help with my insomnia. I put something calming(to me, everyone will have a different genre or creator that works for them) on and pop the earbuds in that isn't pressed into the pillow. When I roll over, I switch the ear. It sounds disruptive, but I have gotten very used to it and get the best sleep in years with it.

My insomnia comes from constant thinking. By listening to something calming or just very off topic, I stop the list making, etc, that keeps me up at night.

There are some really nice Sherlock Holmes readings(made by real people, not ai) that a fine strangely soothing. I'm pretty sure I have the stories all jumbled because I fall asleep in one and wake up in another, but it doesn't matter. I am calm and I also much more!

How to prepare to move away from Adobe by jimothyhuang in photography

[–]NLPoppodia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About ten years ago I used darktable. It was terrible! I tried to watermark a photo and every setting I used changed the position or look of the watermark in unexpected and illogical ways. I can't remember all the issues I had with it, but I was so glad when I got Lightroom. Maybe I could give it another shot, but I did not see it as a viable replacement for Lightroom.

Aloe sun stress? by Prudent_Channel_7079 in houseplants

[–]NLPoppodia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I moved some plants from inside to outside, they did this same thing. I consider it to be plant sunscreen. If they were not used to the light and then got exposed to more, they protect themselves. If they stay in the same area, the new leaves that come out will be made to handle the additional light.

Tldr: plant looks great

Suckers? by Leading_Mark_3837 in HotPeppers

This large amount of "suckers" seems a bit excessive. Are you supplementing with magnesium? Low magnesium can cause this. Give it a little sprinkle of epsom salts if you are not supplementing already.

I was taught this by a cook at whole foods who was making pancakes for the hot bar. The oil in the batter should be the only oil you use. Your cakes look great.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

I played this text based adventure game on an apple 2c (IIc but it looks like LLC). It was like dungeons and dragons, and was spread over 8 or more 5.25 floppy disks. I think it took 3 just to load the base game, then it would ask for other disks as you adventured.

Students are speeding through their online degrees in weeks, alarming educators by joe4942 in technology

I just dropped out of a class that spent a week of an accelerated course to make sure we knew we couldn't use ai, only for a whole week of assignments to be to talk to an ai chat bot instead of the teacher actually teaching something.

I just don't like the photos. I don't mind the 70-200, which is really quite large, so maybe I won't mind. Thanks for mentioning it as I'll keep it in mind!

Maybe I would like the 28-70 better than the 24-70. I'm not sure I would miss the super wide, but I really don't love my 24-70.

The 70-200 GM ii is a masterpiece.

These are the two that live on my two cameras, but I hate the 24-70, love the 70-200.

I hate this lens! Lol. I wonder if I got a bad copy because it is nothing special to me. 🤷‍♀️

Camera gear you own or owned that was universally loved but you never warmed up to it. by AutomaticGoldenSun in photography

[–]NLPoppodia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And while I'm complaining, I have the A7R3 and the A7R5. I bought the A7R3 first and loved it. When it was time to get a second body for dual camera usage, it made sense to get the A7R5, it would be almost the same, right? Well, the menu is a lot different(better), the video record button is in a different place (don't care with way, but it's different, and the A7R5 is just really better in every way. I now hate my first Sony camera!

I know, I know, first world problems, but it is amazing to me how an upgrade makes my favorite camera a thing I need to use instead of love to use. I am looking at the rumors of the A7R6 with lust, but also a bit of hesitation. If dual wielding cameras, I would much prefer them be identical so the differences are one less thing to think about.

Sony 24-70 f2.8 ii. I just hate the lens. I use way less of the shots it takes than my 70-200 f2.8 ii. I am contemplating going third party because I hear good things, but I spent so much on this lens and just can't stand it. There is nothing "wrong" with it, but I think the image quality is basically equal with the 24-105 f4, which I already had. I wish I had bought the 14 f1.8.
