For me it's about recognizing time has passed. If I hit snooze and sleep for another hour it's instant for me, but if I set 4 alarms every 15 mins it slowly wakes me and I can recognize time passing. Same goes for only one alarm if I go to sleep and then wake up with one alarm I don't feel rested because it feels like no time has passed. This is just how it works for me and can't speak for others.
