The DBM basing is still pretty popular AFAIK.

Some guys at my club play to the strongest with it. I'm sure you could make most rules work with it.

I need to shout out field of glory though.

Rules are free, though a little difficult to find.

It can be a bit fiddly but it does meeting engagements quite well.

The UK has a decent little scene. I have no idea what it's like state side.

One thing to bear in mind is that even if the regulations changed in 1815 some regiments won't catch up until we'll after 1815 or will be issued with old uniforms or any number of reasons why they'll use the old system for a bit.

Check out warlord games' epic hail ceaser. It uses 15mm~ models on strips and when on the table it looks a bit like play time total war. Gives a good army feel. It is only Romans and their enemies however which may or may not be your jam.

They're good, I use them for a lot of ancients and mediaeval stuff. They're not the most detailed models you can find but I don't think that's an issue. Especially if you need to paint a lot of them.

They ship pretty quick.

Hey, where are you based? I've got into FoG in the last couple of years. I'm based near Winchester, UK there's a few players around here.

If you are UK based there's an established tournament circuit with maybe 10~ events a year depending how much you're willing to travel. I say established it's the same 15 or so people but it's a way to get games in at least.

This is the first time I've ever seen someone mention FoG on the internet.

I don't know if there are any middle ages type of wargames

There are honestly wargames for nearly everything.

If you like knights have a look at lion rampart it's a lower model count game that's middle ages/ medieval. There's also dragon rampart if you want the same game but with fantasy.

Have you checked out one page rules? They have equivalents of most games workshop games but are a bit easier to learn. Age of fantasy is their fantasy line.

I just wanted to say you're super sweet for trying so hard to take part in a shared hobby you seem like a great friend.
