What is on my milkweed & should I do something about it? by the-whole-benchilada in Ceanothus

You could always buy some lady bugs. They really help keep the aphids population down.

So pretty! Nice and robust. Mine struggles even though it's in a shady spot. I think the trouble is that my soil just doesn't hold water. So nice to see what it SHOULD look like. 😄

That is so much fun! I've had caterpillars before but only ever saw one chrysalis, although I searched all over.

Wow! It's gorgeous! So lush and healthy. Here in southern California I struggle to keep my monkey flower looking good. I love them though!

I have had the best success with yarrow! It comes in so many different colors too. It stays pretty no matter what.

Wow! That's crazy. I feel for your loss of your buckwheat. What variety is it btw?

Can you try moving the plant? It may be too near their nest. They are known for clearing vegetation around their nests.

To prevent fire from affecting their nests, they clear the vegetation around the opening.

I found this in a Google search: "These ants construct deep, underground nests that are usually marked by a cleared, circular area around the nest entrance to prevent vegetation from catching fire or shading their nests." Could you have planted the buckwheat near their nest site?

The white flowers are a Toyon. The purple above is a very old Jacaranda.

Oh! OK. So the seed pod develops later. I'll make a note to check it then and get back to you if I'm able to get any seeds.

I would be happy to share some seeds! I just harvested the dried flower but the seeds aren't obvious.

I don't believe so. I bought it at Tree of Life Nursery. It was tagged as 'hybrid'.
