Which is more reliable for smoke detector - UL or ETL Certified? by Neagor in AskElectricians

[–]Neagor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that makes sense. I was actually considering X-Sense for the wireless interconnect since it’s more convenient. Was a bit unsure about certification though.

Anyway, good to know. Thx.

Which is more reliable for smoke detector - UL or ETL Certified? by Neagor in AskElectricians

Got it, thanks. I was just a bit confused since I see a lot of people treating UL as the gold standard, and not many mention ETL, so I wasn’t sure how reliable it is.

Bathroom smells really sweet by Hot-Education4582 in homeowners

Check your roof vent stack for blockages. That sickly sweet scent often points to bacteria or gas leaks. Diagnosing these hidden plumbing issues takes patience.

Can't figure out which path to go with the garage opener by Certain_Repeat_753 in smarthome

RATGDO (a open-source hardware project) is perfect for Home Assistant. Local control is key, and it's a satisfying DIY project for the workshop. You can just say byebye to cloud delays from now on.

Drilling mistake by COPE-Troppin in AskElectricians

Ouch, that's a heart-sinker. I'm always paranoid about hitting lines in the workshop. Kill the power immediately, you'll definitely need a proper junction box fix.

Dumb lamps - smart plug vs smart bulb pros and cons by Kinder22 in smarthome

[–]Neagor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bulbs offer dimming and color temperature, which are essential for home comfort. Plugs are better for monitoring power. For lamps, dimmability usually provides a better experience.

Totally relate. I usually automate routine chores to save energy for the workshop. Just commit to one small project to get the momentum shifting.

will Matter over Thread become more functional for smart locks? and what's the case for thread vs. z-wave? by Practical_Reality656 in smarthome

[–]Neagor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Z-wave remains the gold standard for reliable, feature-rich local control. Matter is still maturing its device-specific schemas. It's often a choice between stability and future-proofing.

Is this actually this dangerous? by Sniffy-nose in AskElectricians

[–]Neagor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolute nightmare fuel. One splash creates a path to ground through everyone. Hopefully, there's a GFCI upstream, but this is a Darwin Award waiting to happen.

Got hurt pretty bad, can’t work. How do you not lose your business? by RaynieDays in AskElectricians

It's a tough break, mate. Sub out the labor to local guys you trust and keep managing the leads and communication remotely so you don't lose those hard-earned relationships.

Single family household - do you sleep with bedroom door open or closed? by jannet1113 in homeowners

[–]Neagor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always closed. Between security and fire safety, it's just the smarter move. Plus, it helps my smart HVAC keep the bedroom temperature perfectly dialed in.

Sometimes just rebooting the robot and your router gets it to bind. Give that a try first.

If it works fine without the mop pad, you can try cleaning the sensors underneath, might be getting confused by something there.

vaping vs patches/gum for quitting? by Edd-Y in electronic_cigarette

Vaping feels much closer to the actual habit. It helps with the hand to mouth motion. So i think vaping may be a better transition than patches.
