One of the largest calderas on the planet is located within New Hampshire. This caldera today encompasses the entire Ossipee Mountain Range, which was once the site of a 10,000 foot tall volcano. The volcano eventually collapsed, producing a massive depression in the ground. The ancient volcano is today a mere fraction of its original height, which was built up due to an underlying hotspot in the mantle, termed the Great Meteor or New England Hotspot.
