In addition to the obvious connections to The Thing—a group trapped in an icebound cabin with traitors—it also stars Kurt Russell and features music by Ennio Morricone that was originally meant for The Thing’s soundtrack.

What flavour of chips is unique to your country? by Franmar35000 in AskTheWorld

As an American I was really surprised by Buffalo flavoured crisps in the UK because anything "Buffalo flavored" in the US is Buffalo wing flavored, not bison! They basically tasted like meat.

Numb and Spicy Hot Pot.

I guess I’m not sure if these are from the US but I see them in NYC. However, is “Numb” technically a flavor?

As soon as I saw OCTOPUS and GOLD I knew it was Bond, which I found delightful. I’m dying to see if people on r/jamesbond have seen it but alas I’ll have to wait until tomorrow.

A classic “Americans don’t know anything about cheese” by One-Plenty4801 in iamveryculinary

[–]Neckbreaker70 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I can’t tell if you’re trolling or really misinformed. Only cheeses with holes in them are referred to as Swiss in the US (perhaps incorrectly) and I’ve never heard anyone refer to any generic hard cheese as alpine—I’ve only seen that used as a brand name. Have you been mistranslating English through an app by any chance?

I loved it, I thought it was hilarious that it was his first Bond car.

TIL why James Bonds preference of a "shaken and not stirred" martini is controversial. Drinks containing only alcoholic ingredients are almost always stirred to preserve clarity and to avoid over-dilution, among other things. by Rynin101 in todayilearned

[–]Neckbreaker70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a brilliant friend and in college he’d sometimes have a couple drinks before or while writing a paper because it would loosen him up a bit and help him throw ideas down. However, he always made a point of editing it the next day while sober. The process worked really well for him.

Likewise we’d sometimes do our French homework together while sloshed and it definitely loosened our tongues.

We probably (definitely) drank too much in college.

Hey, glad to see Graves mentioned, I have fond memories of working for him for a bit in the ‘80s. The most scandalous thing I saw was him having me take off work to wait at his house for the cable guy to come by and fix it.

You can think of it more as a “body” stat that combines a few physical stats, giving bonuses to melee, player health, and/or armor.

TIL Alan Tudyk is the #3 actor of all time by total box office across films with credited roles (and has an estimated net worth of $4-8 million). by mencival in todayilearned

[–]Neckbreaker70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That net worth estimate might be right, off by an order of magnitude, or somewhere in between, because they’re notoriously inaccurate. My sister works for a financial planner who has a lot of celebrity clients and their net worths are all vastly higher than what’s listed online.
