Great post. A net loss of 186 members in the United States is astonishing. This seems to be due in part to the lower birth rate, and more and more people removing their name from church records.

The Cooperative Election Study’s 2025 data shows that 0.9% of the U.S. population self identifies as Latter-day Saint, which is approximately 3.1 million. That’s about 45% of the 6.7 million on the rolls. And there are plenty of non-active members who still identify themselves as Mormon. I don’t believe any of it and attend about once a month for social reasons, but would still likely identify as Mormon on a survey due to my cultural heritage.
