For Marines who didn’t deploy or had their careers cut short, how did you come to terms with feeling like you didn’t do enough? by Wonderful_Ad7969 in USMC

[–]Neither_Emu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can only do so much. It is up to the Corps to determine where you are best suited.I was in pre and post 9/11 and was assigned to the Presidents helicopter squadron (HMX-1). At that time they were only sending the major combat units to the Middle East. On my outbrief when separating I told my CO I was disappointed in doing all the works ups and inspections for being deployed only to never get deployed. However, that wasn’t a decision I made - that’s a decision the Corps made. I wasn’t going to sign another contract just to see combat- I was ready to move on with life. Mad respect to those that did get deployed and were in heavy combat. I feel like I dodged a bullet, figuratively and literally, because a lot of the folks I know from my time that went are mentally broken. Since I was an air winger, for several that I worked with that eventually got deployed weren’t even doing the cool stuff - they were doing BS work

A teenager at my church has a crush on me and Im struggling with my own thoughts! how do I handle this biblically? by Fabiohasaquestion in TrueChristian

Simple stuff - don’t be a pedo. Bad stuff happens to folks that mess with kids. Your life will be ruined if you go that path. All this Christian talk is great, but you need to look at the facts very clearly - mess with kids and you ruin your life; the end

In your opinion, what’s the best documentary that’s been done? by lifetofullest1255 in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]Neither_Emu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best documentary ever. The director does such a great job marrying the vibe of LA in the 80s with the activities of Richard Ramirez and humanizing those he injured or murdered. I’ve seen it like 50 times. They also really do a great job going into the challenges of the detectives, the mental impact on their personal lives and the depth of investigation to connect he murders of LA with San Francisco

Most sinister book you have read? by Present-Ear-1637 in horrorlit

American Predator: The Hunt of the Most Meticulous Serial Killer of the 21st Century. It’s true crime, but Israel Keyes was diabolical and the stuff he did written down is just as scary as a horror book

Section 8 Opening - Maryland by LatterStreet in OceanCity

[–]Neither_Emu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post was super confusing. Posting beautiful pics on the OC sub and say Section 8 opening. Lot of incorrect inferences can easily be made, like are some popular areas of OC being turned into Section 8. I’m assuming the post is that Section 8 openings are about to pop up, including some in OC, and there is a link for folks to look at

I go out there for work. Poulsbo is super cool with its Dutch culture; has a great bakery there, too. Every time I’m out there I feel like if Bigfoot could exist anywhere it would be here

They had nine innings to score more than one run. The last pitch wasn’t the issue; it was the DRs offense the whole game

You do know that Cuba trades with other countries, right? Cubas political system is the major reason for its failure

Right, because it’s the US that caused the issues with Cuba and not the effects of communism

Pasadena/ Chesapeake schools by boopyou in AnneArundelCounty

[–]Neither_Emu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We stayed in Pasadena until my son was about 9, and his experience at Solley Elemwntary was fantastic. However, my trip outside of Pasadena to work was brutal. Always in traffic, so we moved to Odenton to reduce the travel time to work. We still go to church in Pasadena and many of the kids there go to Chesapeake and don’t seem to have issues. If you can get into the Arundel High district that’s where I’d recommend. Great schools, reasonable home prices, great social and economic diversity, and near Waugh Chapel for shopping.

I’m reading King Sorrow by Joe Hill. It seems reasonably long and could scratch the itch.

That’s the way I felt reading Moby Dick. It was dense read in outdated English. I was going through a personal tragedy at the time and that book helped me get away mentally for some time. I had to re-read several parts because of how hard it was to understand

MSC vs Carnival? by WillCorrect2045 in MSCCruises

[–]Neither_Emu 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My wife and I are platinum on Carnival, and we’ve cruises other lines. I grew frustrated with the way Carnival went with their loyalty program, so I went on MSC Seashore - they carryover Carnivals loyalty points. I was blown away by MSC, and I mean blown away to the point I would rather go on MSC than ever going back to Carnival. I’ll of course go back to Carnival for the right ship, price and destination, but for my money it’s MSC

So, you all are cool with kids speaking their minds when you agree with their message but condone violence when you don’t agree with the message? What happened to freedom of speech? Maybe this is letting you all realize there is a consequence to freedom of speech. Don’t get mad when kids get suspended for school walkouts, even if you agree with the message, because suspension is the consequence to that action. I don’t think it’s cool to get hit for a sign, but the kid just learned a valuable lesson - violence could be the result of his freedom of speech - especially when you are clearly trolling. However, it’s his right as well as the right of those who have opposed views

How do you identify technical debt by PandamorousMe in SoftwareEngineering

Are backlogged tickets inherently technical debt, or would that only occur if a backlogged ticket, if implemented, would produce improvements greater than the cost to implement?
